“This company chose to milk every customer they get instead of providing good service. We rented a car in Liberia Costa Rica airport in advance. Our flight was delayed by 3 hours
When we were brought to the rental center we were the only customers
The toilet there was broken. The agent try to bully us into spending more money, even though we had prepaid for even optional insurance and booked the car we needed. The car was a wreck with a broken bumper and covered in dents and scratches. The tank was 5/8 full, and when I complained they offered us to wait few hours while they fill it.
On the return they tried to charge us for some sand on the seats of this wreck of a car as they couldn’t find any additional damages to charge us for.
Terribly disappointed”

“I bought a car for one month online. first up they refuse to deliver the car within 3 miles distance to my residence and also returning car I did self. throughout the process absolutely no support they have charged me extraordinarily two times as a service fee for paying one fine.
the traffic fine I have paid myself and even paid 40 pounds of service charge for Europcar however for my surprise they send me again one more invoice for 40 pounds with the new invoice number.
I can only say this is the worst ever rent a car company in UK and I advise everyone keep away from this company they are daylight robbers.”
“I booked with Europcar for pickup in Auckland and return two weeks later in Queenstown. At that time, no one mentioned that Europcar did not allow its cars on the inter-island ferries.
At the time of pickup, after waiting for three hours, I was told I would have to turn in the car at the ferry port in Wellington and obtain a new car in Picton. I was assured this was routine and did not need to make any other arrangements. I was NOT warned that ferries departing in the afternoon might arrive after the Picton office was closed.
I returned my car in Wellington at 3pm, told the agent I was taking the next ferry at 3:40, and would be arriving in Picton around 8pm. I was NOT told that the Picton office always closed at 5pm.
The ferry was delayed. I attempted to call the Picton office. No one returned my call.
I arrived at the Picton office to find it closed and attempted to call the two numbers listed on the office door for after hours. No one responded.
I called the main Europcar office in New Zealand, which referred me to the Australian office, which referred me to the European office, which told me they could not help me (after 35 minutes on the phone).
I walked into town with my luggage (no transportation was available at the station), forfeited my hotel reservation in Kaikoura, and slept at a backpacker hostel. (Hotels in Picton were fully booked or closed.)
I asked via email to be reimbursed for the cost of lodging forfeited.
After 7 email exchanges with 4 offices, I was told I would be credited the night’s hotel cost and the cost of one day’s rental by way of apology.
I returned the car, was told an invoice would be forthcoming, but was assured the notes in my file would be taken into account.
I was billed for the full amount of my trip, no reimbursement and no credits by way of apology.
After another 14 emails with 5 offices, I was told they would credit my account for one day ($75) but not reimburse me for the hotel ($245).
I was never credited for the day.
Don't even think of using Europcar.”
“The car was fine. The return in Balogna (we rented in Florence) was confusing but ultimately we realized the location to return was in the train station parking lot. There was no representative to receive the car and the office located several blocks away told us to put the keys in a drop box that was in the below ground garage. We did not cause damage to the car but roughly 6 months later received an email and some photos of the car which showed damage we knew nothing about. We requested supporting documentation, (from customer service via their email address), such as metadata showing when the photos were taken but received nothing but a follow up request for payment. So now Europcar will try to ruin our credit - NICE!!!”
“I was scheduled to collect a vehicle from Clayton at 10AM Sunday, 15 Jan.
I was called by Steven at this branch at 9:19am on the day of booking that there are no vehicles available, and he had to cancel the booking.
He advised there are no commercial vehicles available even when asked if we are able to collect from another station.
Yet even when he was on the phone, I was still able to book the same vehicle to collect today from this same station even when it is ‘not available’.
Less than 40 minutes notice yet a customer is required to give 48 hours to avoid a cancellation fee.
This is absolutely pathetic and I will be cancelling my corporate contract because of this unreliable and useless supplier.”
“Firstly we did not get the car we booked we ended up in a much more expensive car and secondly the G P S was useless , froze up and left us stranded had to call my son for assistance to find our way.instead of a 2hr drive ended up 6 hrs upgrade cost $100.00 a day , had to put google earth on my smart phone to find my way around. we booked a car for $768.54 endedup paying $1320.00. Rental agreement no 154443521. res 1153596306”
“This company is criminal. Stay away! They made me pay an additional $100 a day for insurance I had already purchased, or they would not give me the car. That is extortion!”
“Booked a car with them specifically because it said car and counter at the terminal in YOW but that was a big fat lie. Had to wait 20 minutes for a shuttle, when I complained about this they told me to read the fine print which I did and it nowhere did it mention a shuttle. Do not book with this company.”
“We reserved a Jeep Renegade 4x4 with snow tires and chains, specifically. At the Milano Linate Airport they did not have our car, gave us a smaller one of different class because only that one had snow tires, making us pay for it. We had to rent a second car to fit people and snow gear. Also told us at Venice we would have to pay 35 euro parking only if we dropped off keys out of office hours. Got there in office hours and waited 40 minutes for someone to show up at the office. No apology and they said 35 euros is always to be paid.”
“The guy Ousmane who inspects your car upon returning searches for any type of scratch he can find. If you did it or not that is how he makes his commission and the managers are in on this scam. He threatened to charge us for a scratch on the tire rim that was so old it was rusted! We explained to him there is No way we could have a scratch on a tire rim for a 4 day rental that is rusted during 2022 heat wave with no rain! We tried to be rational but the man was so big and intimidating we were afraid and felt threatened. He wore a baseball cap and face mask and kept his head down so we couldn't take a good photo. But I got a photo of his name tag at least! A few days later we were charged 250 euros for the scratch. This man and his manager should not be allowed to intimidate innocent paying customers with their scary demeanor. We were too afraid to stay to dispute the allegations. I am writing this to protect future customers especially the elderly from this intimidation. You can see from the photos there is absolutely no fault of ours and it is clearly a very old scratch on a tire rim. Who charges for 250 euro for a scratch on a tire rim anyway? I just wonder how many other innocent paying customers were legally robbed from this exact same scratch. Or how much commission the employees and management makes from these alleged "scratches".”
“If I could rate a lower rating I would. Just robbing awful people!!! Happy to take £800 from 2 pensioners for 2 weeks rental on a fiat 500… used for 24 hours and 15 miles with petrol replaced. Absolutely no movement in their policies. Do not trust this company in a crisis! All they will do is take advantage! Refunds are non exsistant”
“My car was going to go in for repair, the garage repair shop sourced a courtesy car from Europcar. I was promised a like for like car and what I got was the complete opposite. I turned up to drop my car off on Thursday 22nd December. They had dropped off a car to the repair garage which was dirty inside and out, there was warning signs on the dash board, tyre pressure light, add blue light and to top it off the car smelt of drugs (weed) to be precise. I was told to drive the car home and they would come out that same day to swap it over. They did NOT come out that day to swap it over. I called them the next day and no one answered. The next day I dropped the car back off to the repair garage and picked my car up. The repairs to my car have now be delayed because of this whole situation. This service that europcar provided was appalling to say the least! I have hired out commercial working vehicles in the past that are cleaner than this. I would NOT recommend this company at all, stay well clear!”
“Just skip this company. They are bunch of thieves and lieres. We had a deal for almost 200e for two days rent. They have overcharged me for at least 500e in period of 2 months. One part they have tried to explain with extra miles ( which was a lie and big fraud ) and second part with no reason. Once a week they are taking money from my account. They are criminals !!!”
“Do not use this company. No matter what they promise, they will not deliver when it comes down to delivery. Then they will just fob you off every time you email them.
Dreadful service. Dreadful people.”
“So sad that with many things going excellently, this company chooses to ruin the experience at the end. Pick up my car in Rome, Car was beautiful, new, and awesome. Car worked flawlessly and all was great. I returned the car in Florence Italy. It was due back by noon as stated on my rental agreement. Althought difficult to find, I found the return location returned the car, and was told everything was great.
Later I recieved the receipt and was charged an extra day. I did return the car at 21 minutes after noon. I contacted them and was told that they have a 29 minute grace period so I thought I would be fine. But they then told me that I left the garage in Rome 15 minutes before noon so I was over the 29 minute grace period.
Only problem is my reciept said return car by 12:00 noon.
I returned it with more fuel that I left with, but they will not try to handle this in a fair way. Basically they only wanted to capitalize on a full day charge for an additional 7 minutes. Worst Customer service ever. Great car...... Horibble people in the billing department. Not even considering all the other add on charges.
Way to ruin a perfectly good experience.”
“Use this company at your peril. First the positive part: I experienced easy booking, fair prices, good cars, friendly staff. Now the terrible part... Their accounting system is stuffed; it keeps taking money out of my account illegally. I was double charged without explanation no less than three times. I had to work out for myself what was going worng with their system, then tell them to fix it. They were still unable to stop it happening so I had two choices - either cancel my credit card and get a new one (major hassle), or instruct them to remove my details from their system under threat of legal action. I chose the latter and after 3 months it seems to have worked, but I am still keeping a very close eye on my credit card statement in case they have not done what I instructed them to do. Not even the slightest hint of an apology from them. I feel really sorry for their staff at the depots, who were friendly, efficient and helpful. I hope they find jobs working for a better company.”
“I was charged for damages on a car I supposedly returned in Madrid while I was still renting it in Malaga. Customer service never helped and after a month my credit card was charged. No reply from customer service so I had to fill a legal complaint”
