I rent a car from goldcar ( through rentalcars) in Lisbon airport . When we came to take the car the service representative ask for my credit card . I didn't have it with me ,but I had my debit card, my wife had 2 credit cards but it didn't help. The only solution the service representative gave as was that my wife will be added as an extra driver ( 83 euro) and we pay an extra 245 euro for the insurance. even thoוght we had the full cover from rentalcars. the car we got was in bad condition- The tires were old and every time we stopped to fill up with gas we had to fill the tires with air because there was an air leak, the vehicle was delivered without an instruction book without a yellow vest - very unsafe. I was shocked. I had my debit card, they would not care. So. We call your service representative and she told us to add my wife as an extra driver , send you the contract ,and that you will give us a refund 245 euro (the extra payment for insurance that we already had )

Its a 1st and last time I tried to rent with this company. I have rented in Nice / France thru web. I have a couple of questions related to pick up time. When I called to service team It was really BAD experience. I have found unprofessional and useless customer service , without patience and without empathy - and 2 times just dropped off the call would never suggest to my friends and family

Hi I would like to share the experience with the company Goldcar, because their staff are very unfriendly and their rules are non-life. I booked the car on the internet about two months before the trip started and paid a 20% deposit with my credit card. When I arrived at the airport on Madeira island on 2nd August 2022 I had to pay the remaining amount. Unfortunately, I had only a virtual card and not a physical card. Their rules say they don't accept virtual cards. I understand this. Unfortunately I have only a virtual card because I forgot the physical card at home and with this card I have also paid the deposit. But I also had the physical diners card but payment was possible only with the card with which the deposit was paid. When my husband wanted to pay with his credit card, it was also impossible because their rules said that you must have a credit card in your own name. The only solution was to change the contract and change the name of the first driver. But in this case the price was higher for about 200 eur (we are talking about 4-day rent here!)!!! We decided that we wouldn't rent a car and rather lose the deposit. So for these reasons I definitely don't recommend Goldcar as a rent-a-car provider. Just for comparison: a week before we rented a car in Lisbon airport for one week. But in the company Master Kings. They also did not accept virtual cards and the payment had to be made by card of the main driver: as you can see, rules were similar to those of Goldcar. But in the company Master Kings they didn't complicate. And my husband was able to pay normally with his card. Without additional costs.

A terrible, fraudulent company who refuses to pay back fule charges and other payments that are due. Avoid this company or pay the price!

Goldcar company together with rentalcars.com lied to us and manipulated it us and got almost 1000euro extra from us. They laugh to your face because they know you cant defend yourself once you reserved the car.

Disgraceful rental company, stay away! I booked a vehicle two months before arrival. I received a mail receipt, which said I should be sure to bring a valid credit card, when retrieving the car at the airport (Alicante). When we arrived, I wanted to pay the deposit using one of my three valid credit cards on my iPhone. Goldcar did not accept anything else than a plastic card! I could not go and get the amount in euros in cash to give as a deposit, I could not use my mothers plastic credit card either. Although the car was paid for in advance, I had three credit cards and my passport, they told me the reservation was lost and we were left without a rental car. Goldcar says it's in the fine print, but in my email from them, it says 'a valid credit card' and that's what I had with me. Although it's on my phone I have been able to use those credit cards everywhere since I put them in the phone. Goldcar is out of touch with the digital age, they are scammers and they were cold and uncourteous, when ditching us and taking my 650 euros without giving us the car we paid for. Second bad experience with Goldcar, never ever going back!!!

Avoid Goldcar in Portugal . I rented a car 3 days ago in Lisbon : my flight was delayed by 20 min from Paris and they charged me 40 euro for picking up after 23H....then after 200 km a notice appeared the car had to be serviced (efetuar revisao). then i dropped the car this morning at 4 am and received a note there was a dent in the wind screen and they want to charge 523 euro. of course there was no employee at 4 am so now they do what they want. It bad practice, unethical company. They price their vehicles cheaper on expedia for example and then find all sorts of ways to double the rental price. Avoid!!!

Checkout took 45 even though we were at the front of the line. I asked the agent to be sure we had the Cabriolet, as booked and he said yes we did. Went to pick up the car, not a Cabriolet. Waited another 45 minutes for someone to come and sort it out. When we returned the car we were charged for a mark on the wing mirror that we didn’t notice when we picked it up. We didn’t do it but there is no way to contact Goldcar to dispute it. Also the additional charges on pick-up are not clear when you are booking the car. Overall, very poor experience.

Bad experience at Goldcar Palma airport. At collection desk staff smiling and making jokes, at same time doing they black business adding any possible insurance to original booking without customer concern. My original reservation was €343, when adding all extras goes to €745 including fuel deposit. They ask to sign on the pad and then give you printed agreement.Most people get realised about overcharge only when looking to credit card statement. Another issue state of the supplied vehicle- it has been damaged all over, missing aerial, high mileage, and strange clunking noise coming from gearbox. Avoid Gold car at all cost, customer services not helpfull, you will need physically brake down,than thay may do something.

If I could leave no stars I would. avoid this company and don't be fooled by the cheap prices - they will rip you off at some point. hired a car from malaga airport...car broke down on the motorway after less than 300k of mainly motorway driving...they said the clutch failed and it was my fault! ( I've only been driving for 40 years!) and billed me £1300.00 for the repair and tow truck! To cap it all all my larger personal items left in the car where never returned and they have never attempted to return them - extremely rude staff - save yourself a lot of time and trouble look elsewhere.

Worst car company ever dealt with. We arrived at Milan airport to pick up 4 day car hire. Firstly there was an 1.5 hr que for the desk. People could pay to jump the queue!! When we finally got to the desk they had cancelled the car! We had paid £280 for the car which they were going to keep. They had already hired the car out to someone else so they made that amount aswell. They said we could hire an alternative at £600! but weren't going to use the original £280 towards that! We had or 8yr old with us and they didn't have any car seats left. The options they gave us were to squeeze her into a baby seat or buy one from the supermarket! At this stage we just went to another company. Why give your money to these scammers.

They did not unblock the deposit on the car upon receiving it's return and said in the phone that they can keep it up to 30 days. Something unheard in all my car rental life. They are not to be trusted

When I rented the car in Faro I had taken out excess insurance with Rentacar. When I picked the car up they charged me €61 for additional insurance for 4 days, knowing I already had insurance. They told me it was for petrol and a holding fee. The paperwork was in Portuguese, so took Sabina’s word. When I rang them they hung up on me. Stating they would not refund the money. I will never use Goldcar again.

Pay Attention Never Rent From GOLDCAR!! “May 2022” We rented a big station wagon from Goldcar for our holiday in Alicante. Arrived at the airport in Alicante it already went wrong when collecting the car keys. There were many customers waiting at the counter and the tracking number system was not working. This caused a lot of stress. When it was finally our turn we got an employee who very aggressively wanted to sell us the most expensive insurance. After that we were told that the car we rented was not there but she was going to call for an alternative. We had ordered a Ford Focus SW station wagon because it is very spacious inside. After a long phone call, the employee told us that we were getting a Skoda Octavia station wagon instead. I agreed because this has about the same space inside. We went to the place where you could pick up the car, here we were told that we had to wait half an hour because the car was not there. We had to wait here for over an hour for the car. When the car finally arrived it turned out to be a Skoda Fabia. This is a very small car that we had not rented nor paid for. We talked to the employee who handed us the car keys, she reacted aggressively and told that this was our car. In total it took more than 2 hours to get off the airport Alicante. We were very disappointed with the start of our holiday caused by Goldcar Alicante. In the car I found papers from another car rental company in the dashboard. Goldcar had therefore quickly rented this car from another rental company. While I booked this car 4 months in advance!! Upon arrival at our hotel, we immediately tried to get in touch with someone from Goldcar so that we could still get another car. Both by phone we were unable to speak to anyone and the emails were also not responded to. When we got home there was another surprise waiting for us!! We got an email with a photo that there was some beach sand in the trunk. We went to the beach a few times and this had fallen off the beach chairs. We were told that our deposit of €150; was canceled and this amount was needed to vacuum the few grains of sand from the back of the car. The email of Goldcar was of course a NOReply. We immediately tried to call to explain our story but after being on hold for over 1 hour we stopped. I want to warn everyone through this review please do not book with Goldcar. These are real scammers out for your money, don't book your car here!!!

Can you do something ? I know that if I book with DoYouSpain and not directly from your site i can't have the same treatment but I also know that cars that appear on your site magically disappear and can be booked only on doyouspain...I also know that you and doyouspain are not in a competition regime but earn a lot of money from booking problems because of the situation...the question is..if my reservation is cancelled because it came from doyouspain (LITERALLY THE WORDS THAT I HEARD FROM THE OFFICE)..the car I booked and never had for the days can be booked again directly from Goldcar..so doyouspain take money for nothing and goldcar take money from a car already booked because can cancel every reservations from doyouspain...i wonder if this is all perfecly legitimate...i know the answer (it's not illegal, it's just a liiiittle under the abuse of consumers rights). MY SUGGESTION FOR EVERYBODY IS: IF YOU WANNA BOOK A CAR IN IBIZA DON'T BOOK FROM DOYOUSPAIN BUT NEITHER FROM GOLDCAR..JUST GO THERE AND BOOK OUTSIDE THE AIRPORT OR CALL IN ADVANCE THE LOCAL RENTACAR BECAUSE FLIGHTS ARE ALWAYS LATE. GoldCar billed me for damage already existing on the vehicle. GoldCar says you can protest charges by providing an email address on the form indicating charges. That email does not work. TheGoldCar employee I reached by phone for help in this matter hung up the phone on me. This is not a business, it's a scam and an effort to cheat customers.

Upon arrival I was given a car that broke a few kilometers later. Went back to switch it and had to deal with a very unpleasant employee called Flávio Tomásio. He refused to acknowledge car damages that were seen and weren´t in the documents. I rented the car for 11am, it was 22:30h and I was still at the rental trying to figure out my situation. It was the first and last time that I will rent with this company. I speak Portuguese and couldn´t understand the Brazilian staff with very low Portuguese skills. This started with the call center when I first called to inquire about some issues. The price is the highest you can get at Lisbon airport. Being a lawyer myself, I am still thinking if I should press civil charges for such bad service. Most employees don´t know how to deal with customers, contact is rude and not appropriated.

If I could give 0 stars I would! Ended up paying more than double what was supposed to be a pre-paid and €0 owed on pick-up, rental. At pick-up I was told I had to either have my credit card blocked for €1,600, or pay additional car insurance because the car insurance already paid was through a separate 3rd party website/ agent. None of the navigation options requested were available (wifi was being advertised for every vehicle but I was told this was no longer being offered); I had also telephoned before my arrival to request a sat nav/ gps which I was told would be fine, only to be told in person on arrival, that there was none available and I would have to upgrade my car to have a car with built in gps. At the end of the process, I felt totally fleeced and defrauded and unhappy with the whole situation. I will never again use Goldcar Rental and will make sure to advise anyone and everyone to similarly avoid them.
