“Rip off, awful customer service. I was charged £1300 for 3 small scratches, 2 of them minor ones. I was also charged 36£ for being late 1 minute after the collection time. The company allowed me to book the car at 7pm, I arrived at their office at 7:01 (the doors were opened) and they charged me for out of hours service. A joke, will never use them ever again.”
“Why on earth do you advertise green motion! They should be closed down they are such an corrupt company you only have to see the reviews. I had 1088 pound taken from my account no warning apparently because of scratches. When I arrived they had numerous complaints so I took photos of pick up and drop off! They were on bbc new last January about dishonest practices!! You should not deal with this company !”
“I've spent 2 weeks in costa rica and before have read a lot of reviews talking about how bad the experience can be, with scams, problems with crédito cards etc. and sincerly i was a bit worries.
Fortunently nothing of this happened with my booking with green motion. I've booked a 13 data Rental through a 3rd party - rentals.com with full insurance included (reccomended in costa rica). Let just to pay directly to green motion the GPS Rental.
Before i've departed i wrote an e-mail to green motion in the uk and they reconfirmed my reservation, what was included and what was not and which deposit i need to let at the credit card. I felt more confortable having the direct confirmation from them and the customer service was great.
At costa rica collecting and dropping the card went all well, i was just reccomended to hire a second driver for a special price which we accepted with no problem. I was also surprised that the 1000 us deposit in my crédito card was automatically released. The service was also super Nice, with Luís welcoming us and explaning everything very friendly. As green motion doesnt have a Office at the airport (is 5 minutes away), they collect us with a transfer and also on our departure they let us There.
I reccomend that you clean well the car inside and outsid. We did that and no problems or extra charged.
I found the value for money very good (we got a Toyota 4x4).
Highly reccomend green motion in costa rica.”
“Do not use this company.
We booked through carjet and were directed to Green Motion in Athens to collect our hire car.
Really poor quality car offered. Significant damage to bodywork and interior. No possibility to provide any alternative in any category. Told us they don’t have time to repair damage to cars between rentals - they simply hand it on to the next customer. No apology- this is standard practice in this company apparently. Very dissatisfied and would not recommend.”
“"The most fraudulent car hire company out there. I would encourage everyone to rather pay a higher price then to be deceived. Do not under no circumstances hire a vehicle with them.I hired a car from them for a week and I thought it was cheap but they charged my credit card 3 times the cost of hire without telling me why. I kept calling their phone number to dispute it but they did not answer my call”

“2 hours and 15 minutes waiting for collection and problems with accepting documents eg. proof of address - it's a joke I think! Documents from HMR&C with driver name and address are not accepted by greenmotion !? That's one from top document which is accept everywhere! Finally, I received an offer that if I'll choose a full insurrance for extra almost £200, upgrade for "better" car for another £120-£150 than we can easy continue, pay and collect a car... WHAT IS THAT !? I never had any problems like those in greenmotion and I rented a lot of cars everywhere, not just in UK!!! I'll add that there was couple "unhappy" peoples which waited for collection at that time.”
“Very dishonest company. After returning the car, the company said they found 2 small scratches on vehicle. They sent a picture of 2 small scratches barely visible and said that I would be charged for almost 400 Euros for that! That's unbelievable. I've paid 15 euros for them to clean up the car... yes, you have to bring the car cleaned or pay the 15 Euros. I opted to pay the 15 Euros and returned the car dirt. The pictures is from a creaned car. So, the scratches could be done on the clean process, so I was not the last one that drove the car. They only respond by e-mail, no phone number to resolve the situation. The cheap rental price could mean a very expensive tiny scratches that could be done by their staff themselves.”

“I hired two cars when I immigrated to the UK, the first one was a van to take all our luggage to our accommodation, on returning this they pointed out a barely visible mark on the boot which they claimed was not there before, the car was full of scratches, which was pointed out to them on picking it up, they then told me tt will be 350 pounds taken off my 400 deposit. I then swapped it for a Mini Couper, which I had for 5 days, I returned it early and on return they said there were new scratches on the left hand passenger side, after arguing about the first scotch on the car they said it had to break the paint, these scratches had not broken the paint and I believe were there on collection, they notified me they don't record scratches that had not broken the paint.
The nightmare continues on collecting the Mini Couper the day after I had hired the VAN, I had already handed in my drivers license for full UK conversion , I was told they could not honour the current booking as I had no license to present even though they had taken a copy the day before, they said they would extend my first booking (somehow that is possible), but at double the price. This company is a bunch of thieves”
“We booked our car on the basis that we were picking it up from Euston Station. The EXACT details as per our booking (and throughout all stages of the booking process) were:
LONDON EUSTON STATION
MEET & GREET
CALL PRIOR TO ARRIVAL - LONDON , GB
Tel: 44 2071 860000
But when we rang we were advised - they DO NOT operate AT ALL out of Euston Station. I can't help but thinking this is a major marketing ploy...
... So plan-ruining and disappointing. Not to mention dodgy.”
“Booked a van in Birmingham UK, advertised cheaply at £35 for a day. Got there and was suddenly made aware of £400 deposit which I could not afford. Cancelled, to be told it's no refundable.. raised a complaint to be told "you refused to pay the deposit". If you can't afford something you are "unable to pay" not "refusing to pay". These people are con artists running a scam. Avoid at all costs.”
“I left Stansted without a car!
I am a habitual traveller with many trips behind me and numerous car hire experiences.
Yesterday, I had perhaps the worst customer experience event for many years and certainly the worst one for any car hire business over the last 20 years.
Watch out, low cost in this case also means basic Ryanair type pay for extras type service. And if you don!t have a credit card, against which they can charge you for under bumper scratches (as many other web reviews are bemoaning) forget being able to walk out of the office with keys in your hand.
I live in France, my wife had clicked into the RyanAir link for great car rental deals, had I known she had done that, I would have stopped her. Anyway, we turn up to the GreenMotion office located in the Novotel at Stansted Airport and after having presented my old fashioned paper licence and being told they cannot accept it without a DVLA code (which I managed to get online), our French Débit/Credit cards were then refused as not being compatible with type of charge they wanted to cover the excess on their insurance (£1250!!!!).
So started the fun.... we could reduce this excess to zero and therefore pay the charges by debit card for an extra £40 odd a day, but when you have hired a car for 3 days at £20 per day this rather defeats the point AND I am therefore spending 50% more on my car than the fancy premium all in Ryanair tickets the two of us had to get us from France to the U.K..
What galled me was the efficient siting of the infamous 13 page Terms and Conditions that were frequently being flashed in front of us and pen pointing to various clauses about administation charges and so forth.
After having seen the awful reviews about how people are being fleeced on minor wear and tear damage (scratches on the undersides of bumpers) and excessive mileage use, I totally lost interest in trying to find ways to give GreenMotion my money to cover the excess in the event of my inability to look after their car.
So I walked out and cut my losses on the wasted booking for 3 days to get the train to the midlands instead.
My advice, pay a little bit more with a better known company and benefit from a clearer and more professional service.
On reflection, I think that the fact that the office employees were so well versed with their T&C’s is that most customers have some kind of of difficulty with their booking..... how awful for them having to explain once more to someone that sure, our daily rat is low, but you now have to suffer us holding you to the fire over a tedious set of small print.
.... it makes you wonder whether their employees are paid simply on commission based upon administration fees and damage waiver charges........
How foreign nationals with no credit card facility (as defined by Green Motion, not your credit card issuer) get by I cannot imagine, perhaps they just accept the charges through sheer desperation?
Walking out after 30 minutes without a car felt so good.... at least I had not spent a penny more with this shamble of a scam operation.”

“Dishonest tactics to milk you. Better off with a more ethical company. You will be left stranded and cheated. Avoid. Stress is not worth it. What u sign up for is a fraction of ultimate cost”
“Like everyone else here I was scammed at FCO. When picking up the car a superficial check up by the employee revealed two minor scratches. When we returned it she went over it extremely attentively and found some dents on the door, looked like she knew about them already. I am absolutely sure we did not make them but they were so small I never bothered to photograph them at pick up. They charged me 181 EUR for this, a rip-off...read the article on The Guardian which explains it all..avoid this company at all cost.”
“A perfectly appalling experience with Green Motion.
Not only did you provide no fore-warning that if I opted not to purchase insurance when making the booking, you then provided me with only one option at pick-up that literally tripled the price of the entire car rental experience.
When picking up the keys, the customer to my right was being told that there wasn't any vehicle available for him, even though he had made the booking much earlier. I still feel bad for him, given it was a holiday weekend and all cars across London would have been rented out at that time.
Then when I get down to the parking garage, two of your employees are swearing and cursing at each other, scaring my 6-year old daughter and so we stand well back until both gentlemen had calmed down.
Then you give me a brand new car (300 miles on the clock) yet can't even give that to me clean and so my children sit with someone else's dirt all weekend.
And now you charge me £21 admin fee on top of the penalty charge (the latter of course is my fault).
Never again!”
