“I've never purchased anything from J Peterman. But the refuse to stop sending me their catalog. Many years ago, someone else ordered something, and it was delivered to my address with their name. This was not a former occupant; it was just the wrong address. I paid to return the item with an explanation and requesting to have my address removed from the mailing list. But the catalogs still come like clockwork. Thick Beautifully illustrated catalogs delivered multiple times a year. Still with the other person's name 'or current resident'. I've sent back the address page with message asking to be removed from the mailing list at least 4 times over multiple years. But they keep coming. I was quite rude the last time. So I guess to get back at me they'll mail me their recycling forever. I NEVER HAVE, AND NEVER WILL BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY. Please save a tree and STOP IT. By the way - as lovely as the drawings are, I would never buy clothing from a drawing. It's hard enough to tell from a photo what the fabric is really going to look like or how it's going to fit when it isn't shown being worn by a human. Also, I'd never spend $178 on a hoodie no matter how accurate the artistic rendition might be. I am not in your customer base. Save time money and resources by removing people from your mailing list when they repeatedly ask.”
“First off online it never stated final sale. I ordered a dress, it was cheaply constructed. Not at all like dresses that I ordered in the past. I called to return it. They refused! I said what about an even exchange or or gift card. The answer was no.
This dress was $298 on sale for $79. It was not worth $79, let alone asking $298! It is not lined and an inferior fabric. What a total disappointment. I have a beautiful dress I got years that I still wear, the quality was impeccable, not anymore. I wish I read these reviews before. I assumed it was still like that….you know what they about ASSUME.

“Accepted my return with an RMA number, then tells me they never received it, even though their return label shows it was delivered back to them 3 weeks ago. After multiple calls and emails telling me to keep waiting, they finally literally told me to just go through my credit card company. Terrible customer service.”
“I was an past employee of this company. And let me tell you some things, this company does not care about its customers at all! That's why they don't include the shipping labels in the box because that would just make sense right? Then they give the customer service agent lies to feed to customers about refunds taking 14 days to process. When in reality it was just because the refund tracker was deleted by a top employee. Not only once, but twice. Avoid this company at all costs! I have seen some VERY VERY shady business practices. And you're better off shopping elsewhere.”
“Ordered an XS sweater for my wife on December 4th in time for Christmas. I received a Small on the 9th despite XS explicitly cited on the order form. Sent it back almost immediately. When I called regarding the status of an exchange, the service rep was very nonchalant and unapologetic.”
“I ordered a dress on 11/25 for a party December 8th. After making numerous requests, I was told they were busy over Thanksgiving and would be shipping product on November 29th. Then on or about December 3, I received a notification of a “back order” with no promised ship date. Ridiculous! Again, I have contacted them twice. What is up with their customer service dept? Does it even exist? Not only do you have to pay for shipping, but there is no customer support when you need it. I want my dress, and will not purchase from them again. Has anyone else experienced this?”
“I do not recommend ordering J. Peterman Company products through Amazon. 10/19 received order with wrong size delivered. 10/20 called and was told they were sending correct size out immediately (after spending 20+ minutes on the phone as they couldn't locate the order # on my slip. They have a different numbering system when things are ordered off of Amazon.) Never received the correct size. 11/8 called to confirm they received my returned order. Told me delivery of correct sized sweater should be within 10 business days. 11/23 called and discovered they never mailed my correct size - was told it would be shipped in 48 hours. 12/7 called and was told by customer service that a "separate dept. that deals with their Amazon orders" would call or email me by tomorrow. Now it is 12/12 and I have not heard from a representative, still do not have a sweater, nor a refund, and am still getting the run around. AVOID THIS COMPANY!”
“I recently ordered a pair of Black Watch tartan plaid wool trousers for my husband. They arrived as scheduled and the trousers are very high quality. I am very satisfied with all aspects of my first purchase from J. Peterman.”
“Charged almost $200 for a sweater on Oct. 10. Today is Oct. 26, no shipping status, where is my sweater?… well I call customer service who tells me they never had it in stock and never will get it in stock and their policy is they do not notify the customer, they just refund money 30 days from the order date. What? where do they get the right to keep my money for 30 days? terrible”
“Absolutely horrific company! Tried exchanging a dress that was gifted to me as a present. Made several calls to make sure that it would be EXCHANGED! They said they had the size and would absolutely fallow the directions. Called 2 more times to make sure. Called today to check on the exchanges, in process. 2 hours after my call I am getting email saying that they refunded the amount to the original buyer. Say what?? You send the money back to the person who gifted me the dress?? Making me look like I didn’t want the present and you did it without my consent? Unbelievable. Tried to reason with sales agents, asked for a supervisor. Those women were super mean and patronizing. No compassion what so ever. They think the company did nothing wrong. “ we cannot fix the problem Ma’am. You have to buy a dress again!” Why do you promise to take care of my problem if you cannot?! 2 hours on the phone and many tears on my end. They never cared ones. Horrible customer experience. Never again.”
“Do not order from this company. They may have been a good company at one time but not now. I tried to return a brand new never worn pair of white jeans within the 60 day window and they would not take them. Order from someone else.”
“Same as so many others here. My husband—long time Peterman enthusiast— ordered a dress for me as a gift. Paid for expedited shipping. Card charged immediately. No shipping confirmation. Finally several days in, he called them; oh, item not in stock. Refund? Well, he seems to be having trouble getting one. The item is still listed on the website as if it were in stock. Sooo much wrong here, one has to wonder. Why do they charge before item ships? Why no notification item is not in stock? Why are out of stock items still listed on the site? Where is the refund— which ought never to have been charged in the first place, since the item evidently was not in stock when he ordered it? This all has the smell of a giant scam. Whatever Peterman might have been in their “Seinfeld” heyday, this is not the same company and should be avoided.”
“I never write reviews, but this is the worst company ever. I ordered a blazer in 42R. I am 6’ tall but have quite long sleeve length between 34.5 and 35”. Still, the blazer’s sleeves were WAY too long covering almost 1/2 my hand. The coat length, by contrast, was normal. So it was tailored for gibbons, basically. I was away this summer and was not there when it arrived. By the time I returned to the US and could try it on, just over 60 days had passed. I sent it back right away upon returning stateside unworn with all tags and explained that the fit was wrong and I had been away. They refused any refund or exchange, citing their very hard to find and basically hidden 60-day policy, and sent it back, KEEPING MY $. Total assholes who up their rules and then delight at screwing the customer by enforcing them instead of making the situation right. Reading these awful reviews, I see I’m not the only one. For the love of all that is good, STAY AWAY!!”
“Unresponsive company. Tried 3 x to execute a return. No response. Items look far bettered in catalog drawings. Probably why they don't use models. And overpriced for quality especially since they don't pay models. Won't buy from them again. They don't deserve it.”
“I ordered the Social Season, 1937 Cream Skirt, Size 8 and I wore it on last Sunday and it was just perfect for the occasion. I would love to see in Black, Size 8 in 37" in Length. Thank you for such a well made and beautiful Skirt.

“I have been a Peterman customer for thirty years. Not anymore. I ordered a dress in April. It finally arrived three weeks later. I’d spoken to a customer service person prior to ordering as to the fit so I would get the correct size. When the dress arrived it was too large. I sent it back and ordered the smaller size. Six weeks and three emails and two phone calls and all assuring me that the dress was *on it’s way*, I finally get a customer service person who says there are none in the warehouse and the back order is iffy. AND that it would take 14 days to get a refund!! So Peterman has been sitting on my $315 for two months now plus 14 days.
Will I ever order again?? No way. The quality of the clothing has gone down and so has the service. Shame on you J.Peterman where ever you are.”
“It seems to me that J Peterman has gone downhill since the pandemic began two years ago. They don't have anything too interesting and the men's clothing line hasen't changed much, and is somewhat overpriced. I don't know whether the company is now lacking creativity or if this is due to a supply-chain shortage coupled with inflation?- but J Peterman sucks now. For instance, I have seen the same pair of shoes offered for sale for the last two or three years, while they have been put on sale numerous times. Yet, instead of Peterman coming up with something new, it's just the same old merchandise, and it's dull and boring.
What happened to men's clothing that had some pizazz, such as a silk dressing gown or an interesting retro-styled suit? Again, the past two years and it's the same old stuff. Peterman shouldn't be offering this weird indie clothing year after year, and expecting that nobody will notice.”
“Bought an Aran jersey for about $150.00. One day's wear left loops of fabric. I returned it, second jersey, a replacement of the same item had the same issues.
I sent photos, requested a refund. They issued a return label, I sent item back. They have no evidence of having the jersey received. I discarded the return receipt. We have been back and forth about this return. They require proof of the second return of the item, thereby ignoring all my previous email documented with photos.
They lost a long-standing client.”
