I’ve been a regular user of Turo, but lately, it’s clear they’re going down the same greedy path as companies like Uber. They’re stacking crazy fees on top of already expensive rentals—fees that aren’t clearly shown up front. Hidden charges suddenly appear after booking, and customer service doesn’t seem to care. It feels like they’re more focused on squeezing every dollar out of the customer than providing good service. Turo used to be a great alternative, but now it’s just another platform exploiting users while they take the biggest cut. Very disappointed.

The host experience is awful. Turo has no interest in accommodating hosts anymore. I've lost thousands on damage claims for subjective reasons (absurd amounts deducted from payouts for the most minor scratches). Lost compensation when guests kept vehicles days past their trip end. We can only be compensated for 1 extra day regardless of how long they keep the car. Can't charge smoking fees even with crystal clear evidence. Non reviews count against hosts, etc. Need more space to list the rest...

Knock on wood, I have never had a bad Turo experience. All the owners have always been beneficial and communicative. I have rented in California, Colorado, Oregon, Las Vegas, and more, and as I shared so far, I have never been disappointed.

turo has horrible customer service. we had a nightmare of a trip with a host and his car and they just side with the host & pulled a payment from my card that i DID NOT authorize & did NOT receive my reimbursement for coolant i had to buy for his car. yet the host can keep his car on the website with it overheating and leaking oil and barely able to function after almost leaving us stranded in the middle of the night. just terrible.

If you're considering renting a car from Toro, it may be best to do so only if you need the vehicle within 24 to 48 hours. This is because Toro allows a 24-hour cancellation window after booking, which means if your plans change beyond that timeframe, you won't be eligible for a refund. For trips planned a week or more in advance, it might be wise to explore other rental options that offer more flexible cancellation policies. Overall, renting from Toro can be a good choice for last-minute travel, but for longer-term plans, it may be beneficial to look for alternatives that provide better reassurance regarding refunds. I canceled 8 days prior to my trip and did not receive a refund.

Worst car rental. When we went to pickup the car it looked nothing like in the listing. The car had bald tire with cuts, bumper was busted, scratches all over, and dirty inside. Did not take the car and been fighting for 2 months to get my money back even though they said they would give it back. NEVER rent a car from this company.

Absolutely dishonest company. Rented a Honda plug in hybrid and to my surprise and the surprise of the car’s owner. Who charges $40 for prepaid fuel for a 1 day rental of a hybrid electric car?!?! Your business is unethical and your customer service lies to cover your farce.

No car or host at the host's address for car pickup. I had to ring turo helpline again after a few days to get my money refunded. Said I wasn't entitled to compensation for the taxi to and from the host's address. There is no option to give a review for the host to warn people to avoid the host in question. The host should not be allowed to continue on the website if turo value their customers experiences.

Renting from Turo is a really dangerous business! I’ve only had three rentals with Turo, and the first one was great. However, the second one was a complete disaster. The car was in awful condition, with the AC not working properly and a strong, unpleasant smell. Even the gas lead was missing! When I returned the car, I had to wait because the host wasn’t there to open the gate to the gated community. As a result, I was 23 minutes late. The host just told me to leave the car there, and I did. Three days later, I gave a review of the car, stating that it was in poor condition. When I contacted Turo to dispute the charges, they told me that there was nothing they could do because I was only 23 minutes late. I said that the host was at fault for not being there to open the gate, and that there was nothing Turo could do to protect me. I’ve decided not to rent from Turo again because it seems like they don’t care about their customers. The host can charge you whatever they want, and there’s nothing Turo can do to protect you.

I wish I would’ve looked up the ratings before I used this app. We rented a car, bought the insurance and unfortunately, had somebody hit the car while it was parked overnight at our destination. Because we had the insurance I was not overly concerned, I initiated the process which was clunky and difficult. The only thing they did rapidly was collect money. The car was not drivable, but we were 300 miles from home. Their initial solution was to send a LYFT to take us home. It was absolutely preposterous. We finally came to an agreement that we would rent a car through a reputable organization and they would reimburse us because they had no relationship nor any way to pay a competing company. We even got it in writing because something felt off talking to customer service. So my husband put it on his card and off we went. Fast forward months and months later, Turo has denied reimbursement because the car was rented in my name, but my husband used his card to pay for the rental we had to use to drive home. They just keep sending me the same form email over and over again, that since the same person who rented the car is not the person who rented the car to get them home, they are unable to reimburse. It’s against their “policy“. I downloaded their entire legal BS, and it does not say/reference or infer this anywhere. They literally made it up. It does not say it in the email that was sent confirming that they would reimburse us nor did they ever say it when we were in active exchanges. This company is fraudulent, buyer beware.

worst customer service I have ever experienced. Not worth the “cheaper” prices. Currently stranded in the middle of nowhere and Turo’s customer service is unwilling to help at all!!

I rented a vehicle for my mom, and didn’t know that she couldn’t use my account. Well the host canceled my trip and charged me 125 for it. Scam and a rip off

My experience with Turo isn't necessarily the problem, it's one of the hosts by the name of Alvin C. My daughter rented a vehicle from a Friday to the following Monday. Pick up was 7pm drop off was the same time. My daughter dropped the vehicle off at least 20 minutes before 7, my card was used to rent the car and they held a $200 deposit making the rental over $500. At 7:15 I saw a message from the host saying there was another renter waiting on the vehicle. There was another message sent from the host at 7:29 asking when the vehicle would be dropped off. I think the host intended to keep the deposit and charge my card an extra $53 for a late fee. He wanted to cover himself sending those ridiculous messages knowing that car was no longer in our possession. If you want to use Turo I wouldn't deal with this host at all.

A friend told me to try out Turo and I thought everything was great, until 2 days after we checked out. The host stated I damaged the vehicle and provided pictures to try to prove I damaged the vehicle. If you look at their pictures, and my pictures as well, the vehicle was exactly the same. No damage whatsoever l. I contacted customer service and they agreed with me and stated they will put in a dispute. A week later I was charged $890, I contacted customer support again explained the situation and again they stated they would put in a section dispute. A week later, I was charged an additional $40. I called again and asked for a supervisor, they said they cannot transfer me to anyone and I would have to wait for a call back from the supervisor that can take about a week. Never heard from anyone, so I emailed a support ticket informing of the situation and I would only like my money refunded. They replied stating that I would get a call back from the supervisor within one business day. Still waiting for a call back.

Well, now that I’ve read most of the comments I know I’m not alone. We booked with them 2 1/2 months before we needed to and needed to make changes for days afterwards which they were fine with making. However, at that time they told us that the car was not gonna be at the airport as promised, and as we indicated in the application. Of course, they will not make any arrangements to pick us up at the airport, nor will they allow us to cancel the contract even though they promised an airport pick up drop off. They do not appear to care about customer service and only care about the money. We are going to try to resolve it with the host of the vehicle. We are done with Toro and we will be seeking legal action if we cancel and money is not refunded. I have placed a call to the Better Business Bureau.

Keep away from Turo. I booked with Turo few months ahead. They charged my credit card a week before the Check in. Since I had no news from the owner a few days before my arrival at Salt Lake City, I tried to communicate with the car owner but with no success. Finally I was told by Turo that the car was not available anymore and they offered me a replacement (downgrade + $$) which i refused of course. They normally get the owner a penalty but in my case I was left with nothing and I had to turn out to Avis at the last minute ($$$)

I am so disappointed about Turo experience. I cannot book a car and I didn't know why. The Turo support team was unhelpful. I have this issue during more than 1 week and my issue is not solved.

Never ever rent from turo. I just got my trip canceled because the car owner wouldn't accept my totally valid international drivers license. They canceled the trip only a couple of hours prior to my trip. And the worst part is: they only refunded half of the huge amount I paid!
