Be careful: I bought a pair of stud diamond earrings on catawiki. The value estimate of the the "experts" was possibly around 4-5 times the real value. The shipping cost were absolutely exaggerated, what seems to be fine with catawiki. No surprise, it is offered by a commercial seller of jewelry, who certainly provides a fantastic turnover for catawiki and has a 100% rating (!!!). Looks like a very special form of sales promotion with a very strong smell.

I believe these 2 watches are the same, yet the same valuer can value 1 double the other just 2 weeks apart! It's also interesting that the higher valued one is from a Pro seller but he doesn't even put the model number down. https://auction.catawiki.com/kavels/29415191-seiko-no-reserve-price-sne435p1-seiko-prospex-and-padi-solar-air-diver-special-edition-solar-men-2011-present https://auction.catawiki.com/kavels/29633005-seiko-solar-diver-s-200m-special-edition-padi-made-in-japan-special-box-padi-men-2019

I am a seller on catawiki. The first two sellings of mine were sold out undervalued, well, I sent it anyway cause I didn't know I could put a value on my painting. I tried again with two small paintings ( 20 cm x 20 cm ), I put 80€ for its value and another medium size ( 46 cm x 38 cm ) painting for 150€. Their expert Lisa KOK refused me and said " "From our experience and based on our knowledge of the market, we do not think that lot will attract enough interest from our potential buyers, so we can not include it in our sales." We apologize for the disappointment Please do not hesitate to submit other lots that we will examine with pleasure. " I got the two the same copy-paste answered for two different lots that I believe she copypaste from and to another lots as well. This is not what i expect how their expert to communicate with the seller. Below is one of the lots she refused. I think it's not a good place to sell art.

I am a painter; my name is Angelika Bes and during the last 2 years I have sold over 260 paintings through Catawiki. I can share a lot of interesting observations on the way Catawiki operates. But right now, as a comment I would like to add just few topics. 1- Catawiki has an extremely aggressive policy of "no reserve" prices. Why? I have contacted a few people in that organisation to find out why such a counterproductive measure is being applied. Interesting development! No reserve price policy allows CW to eliminate their competitors. This is the way they want to grow and to dominate the market. After they achieve domination on the art auction market, they will start to control prices. The fact that they sell something they do not own allows them to sell everything under its costs. After all, the loss is not theirs! This is attracting people (buyers), who are happy to buy under-priced merchandise. This explains the huge number of weekly auctions, the lack of any serious quality control and the massive amount of copies. 2- Impact of Catawiki on the art market and the artist. Absolutely destructive! Catawiki has eliminated almost all competition in the Netherlands already. What does this mean to me as an artist? Gallery after gallery is closing. Small (online and offline) auction houses are forced to sell for (almost) nothing as well due to the lack of buyers. My only choice was to sell via Catawiki, or not to sell at all! A lot of artists already migrated to countries were Catawiki is not active (yet). Any young artists in the Netherlands are forced to sell with them, or look for another occupation. 3- Controlling art market and policy of "arm twisting" . This is my conclusion on Catawiki’s perception of "fair business" I would highly recommend everybody to stay away from this company . It is important to support businesses whose model of operation do not imitate the effect of cancer on a healthy body. It is important to stop the development of businesses who, in pursuing their goals, create an environment of controlled markets and forced cooperation.

The experts are petulant & ignorant idiots, but we sellers must kiss their asses to get "vetted" for an auction. I did my undergraduate work at Harvard, have an MFA from the School of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and a Ph.D. from the Gregorian University in Rome What are your credentials, mr/ms so-called expert? You cannot tell a print from a painting, -an original from copy, -a fake from an original, -plaster from bronze -etc.-etc.-etc - just about anything of importance about the issues of which you are supposed to be "expert". Your food, shelter, etc. are wastes of valuable commodities that would better serve almost anyone but you. You should be ground up and fed to the hogs. A Modest Proposal

Bought an engagement ring recently. Their expert appraisal was a bit high but still got a really good deal. Arrived a week early with all the correct paperwork. No issue here.

Picture came damaged because or was improperly packaged. The seller's offer was to call me with instructions how to fix it myself. I didn't buy a DIY project. I filed a complaint on time, but then got an email from catawiki asking for additional pictures of the damage. I was on vacation, and by the time I got back, their imposed deadline of three days(!). So the whole claim was forfieted. The seller eventually offered me a 20 euro. I didn't even bother responding. This site is actually less reliable than eBay, because you can't even review sellers, and the company does nothing to advocate for buyers. Stay away.

So , I have bid for an item with a non reserve price . I won the item and the conformation e-mail : ``Hi Dan, Congratulations on winning Mirror (1) - Louis XIV Style - Gilt, Wood! In the end you were the lucky one to place the highest bid! So what happens now? `` then another one in wich i was informed that I HAVE TO ARRANGE THE PICKING : `` Hi Dan, Thank you! Your payment has been successfully received. You can now pick up your order! Please contact the seller to arrange the pickup. After you've picked up your order, the payment will be transferred to the seller. We suggest that you arrange the pickup with the seller as soon as possible to avoid any issues. Order #13780639 `` All good till now , I was sending a message to the seller to arrange the picking and he replied to me as it follows : `` Monsieur, Je vous informe que j'ai annulé la vente de ce miroir étant donné qu'il n'a pas obtenu le prix que j'en attendais. En effet ce miroir à une valeur de 3500 euros alors que Catawiki l'a vendu à 45 euros ce qui est une véritable escroquerie de la part de Catawiki. Donc, je vous prie de demander le remboursement de Catawiki. Cordialement. `` So now we found out that NO RESERVE PRICE CAN BE CANCELED by the seller wich is against CATAWIKI policy . I have called the cusomer care and ask for the clarifications on 9th of august and I got amazed by their reply in wich they said that the order was canceled becouse I did not replied to my emails where they have informed me that the seller cannot arrange the shipment so the transaction can be canceled . `` Amélie (Catawiki) Aug 7, 13:45 CEST Dear Dan, We are sorry to inform you that the seller hasn’t shipped the lot yet. We have tried to work with the seller and asked him several times to ship the lot. Unfortunately the seller doesn’t want to cooperate. Catawiki is an online platform which facilitates transactions between international sellers and buyers. Since the purchase agreement was made directly with the seller we’re not in a position to get the item shipped to you. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. To resolve this matter we suggest to cancel the sale. Of course we won’t charge you any commission fees. If you do not wish to cancel the sale and wish to receive the lot, we recommend you to take legal action against the seller. In this case you will need to contact the seller directly via your Catawiki account whilst logged in by following the steps below: 1. Click your username in the top right hand corner of our website 2. Select ‘My Purchases’ from the drop down menu 3. Your list of lots is displayed, click on the correct lot link to display the order page for that sale 4. Click on the ‘Send Message’ link to message the seller Please let us know before 09/08 if you wish to proceed with the cancellation of the sale. If we do not hear from you we will proceed with the cancellation so that your payment can be refunded. We are still postponing your payment to the seller until further notice. Once again, we apologise for the inconvenience caused by this issue. Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance. Cordialement / Kind regards / Met vriendelijke groet Amélie Service Client Catawiki `` The email has no legal subject of canceling as it was clear from the start that THE SHIPMENT WAS THE BUYER`S DUTY . Me as buyer i did my duty for honoring the payment as my funds were debited from my account . Catawiki kept my funds and still doing it . When I called the customer care service they even did not had the decency to admit that they were tring to confuse me in sending an email with a completely out of the matter subject and then YET blaming me that i did not reply to the e-mail . I passed the phone to my lawyer to have a direct legal discussion and to resume that : 1 . the buyer won an item withhout the reserve price . 2. as per catawiki policy ANY items won without the reserve price has to be sold at that price and CANNOT be cancceled . 3 . the buyer payed the product and catawiki confirmed the payment 4. a clear email has beeen sent from CATAWIKI to stand that the buyer has to arrange the shipment . 5. catawiki DID not use all the matters of comunications to get in contact and solve THEIR issue . They just sent email . This is an abuse of trust and money ! I hope you will realize the agravate errors and solve this issue amicably before acting according to the provisions of the law .

Item not as described. I’m pretty careful when it comes to photos and descriptions but was sold an item that was supposedly perfect. It wasn’t. The customer service is the worst I have ever come across . I have unsubscribed and advise any one else to do the same. Perhaps they will listen to their customers then. Don’t use this site.

I collect "original" posters but auctions are full of fakes and modern day reprints. Does no one at Catawiki ever stop to think how there could be so many of the same poster? The same posters keep reappearing such as 1972 Olympics, Lambretta, Rene Gruau, Perrier Amsterdam Zoo and Grapus. But there are loads more. The meaning of original varies between Catawiki, its so called experts and its sellers. For example: "Original" - I just printed it or its a copy of the ORIGINAL or its the Original artwork copied, or I bought the artwork from an on-demand printer and its original. Rene Gruau is a favourite and even the artists Trust does not care. The so called experts can't be and they certainly can not have any integrity. They can't judge values because they never see the item. But they do have every incentive to value highly because the site fees are a percentage. Worst of all, if you are sent a fake Catawiki's customer service is terrible and YOU have to pay to send it back. Why the brand owners do not protect their intellectual property is odd. But then, when they do who will they litigate?

Please remove planned auctions I am sorry but one of your "experts" took the liberty to google her, not really much of an expertise, is pretty horrendous, so far the estimates were a joke, so I do not want to sell with you anymore, in fact I would rather throw items out than sell with you. I asked your "expert" to remove the items that are only approved but not planned, as I really have no trust in her and the estimates are so horrendous and I really want to leave Catawiki, I am willing to honour everything that is on auction at the moment (not like buyers who have not paid for weeks and I have to wait) there are other far more reliable outlets, with real buyers, I am simply not prepared to deal with"Fleur" or sell my items for nothing. I am totally done with you and will use social media for my experience, I have plenty of screen shots, but just do not list anything anymore, I asked several times. I rather use more reliable outlets, or tbh throw stuff away before selling with you and your blogging experts... Oh and it would be nice if the "experts" would be able to speak English, btw notice the little threat about how you need to suck up to experts to get your lots for the right price, so any of their friends and such, blogger will oblige

I have been a seller on Catawiki for several months but all of a sudden, they decided to close my account and withhold ALL MY PAYMENTS until all my disputes are closed. And I only had ONE dispute but that was reason enough for them not to pay me anymore and use MY MONEY (2000 euros) as they wish. As a seller you have no chance, they have no understanding, once you sell something you never know if you will receive your payment or not. I see many sellers are unhappy so you should avoid selling your items on Catawiki, they are an organized crime group hidden behind a website.

AVOID: I cannot stress enough how much you should avoid this auction site at Literally all costs. Fraudulent behaviour, they took £938 from my retired father after he purchased me a watch that was clearly not as described and significantly damaged. CataWiki s aid they’d look into it as they hadn’t released the funds, weeks passed by and they eventually let the money go to the seller. Netherlands based company exploiting customers in europe & further afield.

I sold my stuff via Catawiki, all went well. But since my subscription my mailbox was overflowing with their mail, although I had been very witholding with my choices of what to receive. Then I found out that they had changed ALL my choices, without my consent. I do NOT like behaviour like this, so I unsubscribed .
