The Rug Tufting Class was excellent!
When I arrived and met John; owner of Carbon6; he waa very pleasant. We begain with myself sending him the image, upon receipt he projected it on he canvas for me to outline using a marker.
After outlining, he and I then proceeded to select the appropriate colors to closest to the colors on the image (see first picture) and after that, he took me a work canvas and explained operation of the tufting gun and then had me practice using the gun.
After getting comfortable with the gun, I proceeded to my canvas and began tufting. Over the course of the next couple of hours I tufted and very a nice conversation with John. John we very kind and when it was apparent that I wouldn't finish in the allocated time slot, John then offered to allow me to continue until all the tufting was complete.
Upon completion, John reviewed the rug and pointed out areas on the rug where a little more addition of yarn would improve the overall look. I followed his advice (smile).
Upon final completion of tufting, John then showed me how to remove canvas from the frame with a border of 1.5 inches unused canvas, and then how to use the electric shaver to even out the yarn on the actual image side. Then he showed me how to butter the entire rug, and then use hot glue to paste the unused canvas over the rug edge (to lock in the edge yarn), and finally how to paste the backing using the buttered adhesive and spray contact cement. The using a J-roller proceeded to roll the backing tighter unto the rug.
I was very pleased with the final result, and very grateful to John for his assistance and kind of offer to allow me to finish to take my rug home that same day.
To anyone wishing to tuft a rug, I would recommend finding Rug Tufting Class by Carbon6 and book a session and have a very enjoyable evening and a nice rug.
