So the story goes that like many others I was looking for some specific skirting looks and Google has led me to Skirting World website. The looks were there, the price looked decent, so I went ahead and placed my order. I've ordered primed boards. Everywhere else, when I bought primed things, they were ready to paint. What has arrived (quite quickly to give credit) were primed (heavy splatter) boards with MDF fibres standing high. This was nowhere near ready to paint. When I have contacted Skirting World and expressed my dismay, I was asked for pictures and it was confirmed that the finish was not good enough but if I needed something ready to paint it should in fact been ordered as UNDERCOATED... They do have a page that describes the difference but the description is vague when it comes to making things clear. Just some pictures without long words would have made a ton of difference. To Skirting World credit, I was offered a replacement that would me made for me (free of charge) to the better grade (undercoated). The pictures I was sent seemed to imply that it would be just the thing that I was expecting in the first place. For me, the extra fee between primed and undercoated grade would have not made a lot of difference, as it would have saved me a lot of time and that costs money too.
Very fast (4-5 days I think), I did get my new order which was finished better but it was still bad. Now TWO coats over the MDF with 2 sanding sessions, the product clearly was of poor quality. I could still see untreated grains of MDF through the finish and the finish was still of that heavy "orange peel" effect. So, despite Skirting World best effort, it seems that they are simply unable to produce a factory-quality product. The skirting still looked like the best effort of a first-time handyman painter.
Now to the so-called moisture resistant HDF, which all boards are supposedly made of at Skirting World. I didn't find any green tint on those boards (may not necessarily a requirement but I came to expect seeing that with moisture resistant boards) and a couple of rain drops that got onto the boards on the day of the delivery have resulted in a noticeable fibre expansion and break out of the treated surface.
Not even my local DIY shop's MDF does that without any treatment on it! Something dodgy about that moisture resistant HDF...
So, overall I can see that Skirting World is getting their customer service attempts right but still not there by a long throw! In the end, it is the product that I want and I want it good quality. That last target is still off.
