I decided to order a new copy of a certain book, rather than a used copy, because it was important to me. The book arrived with 'scrunched' cardboard packaging with bent and shoved in the pages both a tthe top and the bottom, such that I had a moment of confusion and thought I had ordered a second-hand copy after all. It is obviously still readable, but putting a book in a big box with hard padding surely tends more often than not to hurt the book.
