We had a marble topped kitchen island which is sturdy and exactly what we expected. We think the island remains wrapped in cardboard in the warehouse, which is understandable to avoid damage, but due to the kind of cardboard used leaves a really very strong/acrid smell that hangs about for a week or two (or three?) after unwrapping. We are carefully wiping the wood with water/mild soap to try and address this. It does seem to be going though. Not a huge issue. The small wood and iron stool that goes with it is similarly well made but without the pong!
