I decided to purchase from Luggage Superstore rather than John Lewis as LS offered free returns. Which is a good thing as I did decide to return my suitcases and I got a full refund within a day of returning the items so well done LS. The only caveat being that LS uses DPD as the returns courier. The drop off points are small post offices or small newsagent shops and not all of them are happy to accept large parcels. I had to try a couple of post offices first and eventually found one that would accept the parcels albeit with a frown and scowl. The other post offices said they had no room for large parcels. I did also try the DPD depot in Dunstable but they don't accept any parcels, oddly enough. So quite a runaround to return the suitcases so something to bear in mind.
