Despicable service from the RAC . Appalling from start to finish. Constant lies from customer services. Dangerous breakdown that required police presence. They constantly told us the recovery was a mile away, 10 minutes, 15 minutes.... For over 5 HOURS . They lied repeatedly over 16 different phone calls to them. The police asked to speak with them to reinforce the need for urgent recovery from a major dual carriageway where the breakdown was dangerous and causing problems. Two deaths in the same spot the week before due to failed recovery and people being hit by fast cars on dual carriageway and slip road. The advisor HUNG UP ON THE POLICE . After 5 hours an independent company came to recover us that had been called by the RAC 15 minutes before they arrived at our viehcle. They had done nothing for nearly 5 hours only pretended help was on the way and LIED. The police are deciding whether to follow up on wasting police time because they had to stay with us for 4 hours, so dangerous was the situation. The RAC were constantly told the dangers in the 16 calls. They just fobbed us off until police base called in the urgency. When the independent recovery arrived they'd been told by the RAC we'd run out of petrol. Another lie. We'd had a full engine management systems shut down and gone from 70mph to 0 in 10 seconds in the fast lane. We'd then had to try to get to safety and rescue our two dogs from the back of the car. The hazard lights had stopped working after 2 hours .... It was 4pm and getting dark. The chances of a major pile up were inevitable hence the police rushed there to put cones and lights out. The RAC didn't care about this. The independent recovery company told us the RAC wouldn't come out because the road was too fast and it was dangerous for their own recovery vans. They had no intentions of helping. They constantly lied. For 5 HOURS. It was 2° and dark on a 70mph dual carriageway and the RAC had no interest in helping us. Officially complaining has made no difference. They have reviewed the complaint and admitted they were in the wrong and the advisors shouldn't have relayed false information to us and ignored the police. . They have sent £30 and £10 as compensation. We had to pay £400 to be recovered and for the car to be taken on to the dealership then following day from our home. It couldn't be taken straight away as they were closed and the compound all locked up. If we had been told they truth by the RAC from the first minute of our breakdown, we could have called an independent company ourselves and got to the dealership that day. If they had been honest with us we could have called an independent company from the first moment it happened and we wouldn't have incurred additional charges. This, they didn't care about either saying " it's not our responsibility to pay for any extra costs" They don't care. They have said In a formal email response " having reviewed your case, we can see we were at fault and will offer you £40 as a good will gesture" They sent£30 initially. When I challenged this they said they're had been an oversight and sent another £10. In our complaint we'd asked for £200, half of the extra costs we'd incurred. They had said their 40 pounds was final. You can't complain to that financial ombudsman about the RAC because they get out of it by saying it's RAC MOTORING SERVICES not THE RAC. They're separate things and their motoring services don't fall into ombudsman services so there is no complaints department except their own so they can do what they want. That was evident from their nonchalant responses and curt emails, badly spelt, with poor grammar and sarcastic phrasing. Absolutely dispicable. DO NOT USE THE RAC. IF YOU ON A DANGEROUS ROAD THEY WILL NOT COME OUT TO YOU. The police told us they exclusive this a lot with RAC services. We have moved to GREEN FLAG AND CANCELLED MEMBERSHIP. I encourage anyone who has RAC cover to seriously consider moving away from them.

We had to wait in poor weather conditions beside the hard shoulder for five hours we had no communication and was told when we called them we had to chase the eta with the company they had subbed the recovery too. They couldn’t even give us the company’s phone number. Asked us to google it. Absolutely shocking will never use them again

called twenty five past elevan got through twelve ten told patrol would be there between five and eight. The time was moved to elevan till two in the morning. I said I was in a retail park and they shut the barriers at eight.I agreed to wait till the next day and they said what time would be best for me we agreed on ten o'clock. They arrived at one and were not very good. I needed recovery and he could not do that so he arranged for a company to recover me that was between eleven pm and two am . I cancelled the recovery and got my own who arrived within two and a half hours. Very very poor service I have since left the RAC after twenty years and this is the only time i have used them what a poor show S Pulcella

Broke down on a zebra crossing( drive shaft snapped) . Did what I thought was the right thing and got a friend to tow me to a car park so I didn't cause a hazard. Informed RAC and long story short 23 hours later the tow truck turned up. Next time I will leave vehicle in a dangerous position and they might have to react quicker. All throughout the process communication was non existent. Terrible company who will not get my business when due for renewal.

We had a puncture and was forced to stop on the hard shoulder of the M4 at 20:30. We where unable to lower the spare because we where missing the tool to do so, I reported it to the RAC as soon as I realised. We where told recovery would be with us soon and we where a priority because of where we where. At 1am we where still waiting and was told there where no patrols available and a third party recovery would be provided. Long story short, we finally got recovered a 3:30 am after breaking down on the M4 Hardshoulder at 20:30 the day before.

Car has been stuck in a ca park for three days and RAC have continually fobbed me off with excuses and recovery dates and time that don’t happen. I’ve had zero updates so had to continually chase them for updates as the web link is useless. Complete incompetence and indifference to my issue and now without my new car or temporary for Christmas thanks to the RAC.

Was insured with this company all year, I bought a new car and was told that my insurance cannot be moved across to the new vehicle and they won't be offering any insurance on my new car at all. I was then charged £90 for "leaving" even though I did not ask to leave, they refused my custom on my new car. I logged a complaint saying I don't think I should pay a £90 fine when I did not ask to leave but this was flatly refused. Disgusting company that I absolutely will not use again. Imagine going to a store and being refused at the tills for an item, then forced to pay £90 before your allowed to leave the premises. Just wouldn't happen. AVOID THIS SCAM COMPANY

would never use again!!! full service booked on my driveway, Technician spent most of the 1hr 15mins total time either on the phone or sat in his van or my car, oil not changed and wouldn't have even told me if not questioned (excuse was one of the bolts for the floor tray would now come off...not surprised listening to the impact wrench going at it) . Now waiting to be contacted for the oil to be changed and the service to be completed.... but of course they took the full payment automatically despite only being a very small part complete!!!, air filter not changed, coolant not topped up. and to top it off broke one of my brake pad wear sensors and left an oily mess on my driveway. for the price of a full manufactures recommended service all I received was new wipers when my ones were only a week old anyway, a "new oil filter" and a new pollen filter plus damage to my driveway and car! Have been ignored since submitting my complaint and the evidence that was requested so now having to take this matter up with Trading standards as I'm left out of pocket for a service I didn't even receive

Left Stranded on the M1 hard shoulder for 12 hours, with RAC constantly lying and making excuses as to why they haven't been able to attend. They didn't even notify the National highway service until 9 hours after. Cancelled my policy immediately and will never use them again.

Long-standing RAC customer since 2004. Recently experienced a serious misdiagnosis of a head gasket and received very curt, unprofessional communication when resolving issues. Disappointed with the service.” Have since cancelled my policy

Moved to the RAC after the AA fee had gone up significantly. We were never unhappy with the AA, but felt we need to save money where we can. BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER!! We logged a breakdown with RAC yesterday morning via the App. Response timescales changed constantly, and my husband was sat with the car for over 9 hours. We eventually received a call at 10.30pm to say they couldn't attend, and the car would be sorted between 7am and 12 noon today. After making and receiving numerous calls today, where we are constantly being told we are being escalated/prioritised, it is now 2pm with no sign of a recovery, and no contact for 2 hours. The stress this has caused is ridiculous. We have had to pay out for taxis, and my husband has lost money through not being able to get to work. We have now decided that RAC stands for Readily Abandons Customers or Really Are C**p!! What we thought was a cheaper option has turned out to be a very expensive mistake. Avoid Avoid Avoid!!!

Logged a flat tyre at 12.40 pm today, Initially told would be a few hrs but soon escalated to hr after hr. Started ringing round for a mobile tyre fitter in my area after a 5 hour wait and came across Fast Lane Tyres in Stockton On Tees who logged the call and within an hr came to my rescue. 20 minutes later I was on my way home thankfully. RAC update now nearly 12 hrs since the call was logged. Rang to cancel the log and complain, not bothered and repeatedly said not enough capacity in your area, disgraceful!! Wide berth required moving forward. RAC get your act together!

Appalling service from the RAC, don't believe their advertised response time of 60 minutes. Reported breakdown and initially quoted 4-6 hour wait. Rang them to ask if they could do it any quicker as had to take daughter somewhere and then had an update saying be 6-8 hours now. Rang again to see what was going on, told escalation team ring me back immediately, they didn't, but had text to say wait will be 24 hours now!!! Rang again to say needed take daughter somewhere and also take her to school early in morning so couldn't wait 24 hours and told I'm not priority and no manager available. Should be able to ring me back tomorrow, hopefully!!!

BEWARE – RAC WARRANTY NOT HONOURED I had a rocker cover replaced by RAC, which required removing the fuel injectors. The stretch bolts must be tightened correctly or replaced — yet one snapped after six months, which should never happen. I was taken to an RAC-approved garage and followed the SMR team’s instructions exactly: get the diagnosis and then send the invoice for a warranty claim. Only afterwards was I told this was wrong — apparently a mobile mechanic must attempt the repair first, even though they wouldn’t have the tools to remove a snapped injector bolt. Because of this incorrect advice, I’m now £900 out of pocket, plus the £600 for the original repair. I feel completely misled and I am now taking this further.

the worst company i've ever had to deal with. been stranded currently for 19 hours with no end in sight. they didn't care that my son has asthma and the cold has caused him to have an attack. had 8 calls with them (usually after spending 30 mins on hold), and everything they've said on all 8 calls has turned out to be a lie. what's on the website under my 'help' is also innaccurate - i'm pretty sure they're not arriving 3 hours ago. a few of them have also been extremely rude over the phone. i'm not the type to usually leave reviews, but this whole experience has been a nightmare. oh and they're blaming the weather but it's just a bit of light rain! i've got 10 months of this membership left but i'm about to sign up for the AA instead. So to sum up, please avoid this company at all costs! absolute shambles and rude at the same time
