I would give them a ZERO if I can. 2024 New Years Eve I was returning back from Scotland to Leicester and the weather was pretty bad, heavy winds and rain 100%. My car started showing warning signs on the dash and the car started slowing down, drove the car until I got to the nearest services at Kendal Southbound which was at around 4.30pm. Took the RAC cover out and called them out for an emergency breakdown. Charged me £199 for the callout. Assuming either they fix the car or take us home. Anyway had no choice as I had young kids with me so I paid it as had to get back home. The RAC Patrol came around 6.45pm and had a look at the car and (THOUGHT) that the turbo has gone. Nothing much was done and no other options available other than towing the car to the nearest garage within the 10 mile radius or quoted me £1500 TO GET THE CAR & PASSENGERS TOWED . Now can someone tell me which garage would be opened at this time on New Yrs Eve to check the car and who in the right fraame of mind would pay £1500 to get the car towed? With not much on the table the guy left. Managed to arrange a breakdown for £500 to get us and the car towed to my home address, which we got home at 5am on New Years Day. All in all £800 went in the bin and no service provided. WHAT A GREAT START TO 2025!!! A COMPLETE WASTE AND A SCAM BUSINESS. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH THEM. ABSOLUTELY USELESS. THEY ARE JUST MAKING MONEY, NO EXPERIENCE OF BREAKDOWN AND NO EMPATHY AT ALL. MY 6 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER FELL ILL BECAUSE OF THEIR POOR SERVICE.

I organised for RAC to visit my home between 11.00 am and 12.00 noon. The mechanic arrived at 12.45 pm to fit a new battery to my BMW 1 Series. He brought the wrong battery! I have subsequently made an an appointment with a Battery & Tyre Centre to fit a replacement battery minus the large RAC markup. The convenience of having a new battery fitted at home is far out weighed by RAC prices.

Had my car get a flat tyre 2 miles from house. Waited 3 hours for them to get an update saying between 11:30 and 12:00 to tow my car home then get told can’t tow the 2 miles but can get you a tyre for 2 £210 pound “budget”. A budget is £71 anywhere else. No towing no tyre having to deal with it myself absolutely pathetic

Absolutely disgraceful totally ripped off by this company, waited 10 hours , dead battery and they charged me £149 for a £60 one ?? In whose world do they think it's OK to treat people who already pay monthly for their breakdown cover like this? This is after paying for their service monthly as well ! Avoid these charlatans at all cost !

I couldn’t believe how quickly the gentleman, Glenn, arrived. He was very polite and so helpful, and fixed my issue in under an hour which included having to go and get a new battery for my car! I can’t be happier with the service the RAC have given me today Thank you!

5 hours wait to find out my battery had gone. Because I had to wait so long they couldn't go and get a new one as the shop had closed for the day. Back in the morning, another 5 hour wait...still no battery. Dunno what I'm paying for, I could have just rung a garage!

RAC..... The top breakdown cover company. I was with them for around 5 years. 60 quid a year to cover me in any vehicle seemed like good value. I guess at that price it was......for the first year! Unbeknown to me, it's been automatically renewing..Yes, it's my fault for not checking this out. However this year's renewal for the exact same policy £480 a year! No lie. £480 a year! Previous year was £360 when I looked back. Absolutely disgraceful and rip off behaviour. They will never get another penny out of me again. OK, they've already had 20yrs worth of monies out of me, they've won, just read this review and don't let them do the same to you.

I needed to be road rescued After giving my details the phone operator said : you aren't with us After giving my location M74 and the marker post I hear: there is no such road. I'm from Manchester I don't know where you are I was told that I need to book the garage to fix my car - I had no reception Ended up bugging the operator for 31 min the lady booked garage for me that doesn't cope with citroen I spent the night in Glasgow in my car waiting for the garage to open. I was not offered any shelter.if RAC only give you one journey to one garage and if the garage cannot fix your car - you are on your own I paid for 3 years cover and insurance with A30 car sale - I want to stop RAC cover immediately and get my money back . No one is in a hurry to help with it either.

Absolutely appalling service after paying for the best cover. I am still waiting! Just received a call from an agent telling me there are delays in Newcastle, I’m in West Yorkshire!! I have waited over 4.30hrs and still being told there are delays. I feel so vulnerable in the middle of nowhere in my car not having any food/water/and regular epilepsy medication.

Waited from 6.00 p.m for tow truck to take me to my Sister's for Xmas,40 minutes away. Tow truck turned up at 9.00 but as he was going off shift could only take me to nearest service station. I declined as I needed to be towed to my destination. I am disabled with several health problems and was in a layby with no food or drink and very cold for hours. Still sat here after 7 hours! My Sister has been ringing RAC every half an hour but been robbed off by rude individuals that can't do their job. Definitely avoid RAC for your breakdown. Terrible service.

We will never renew our membership with the RAC again!! We have been loyal members for years, and service has always been excellent. I do not know what has happened since we last had to call them out, but the level of service now is almost non-existent. I wish I could leave negative stars. My husband's car engine shut out after driving through shallow standing water. He notified the RAC at approx 9.45am, using the very user-unfriendly app. He was told a recovery vehicle would be with him between about 2pm-5pm, and the app would be regularly updated. When nobody had arrived by about 4.30pm, and the app had not been updated, we phoned a few times and were told such different things by different people. The things we were told were not only inconsistent, but incompatible and downright untrue. We were told, amongst other things, that nobody was coming as driving through standing water is not covered, that somebody did come, but my husband was not with the car so they left a note on the vehicle (absolutely not true), that they couldn't get to the vehicle due to flood (not true, as I got to it to bring my husband some food), that they had assessed it's position and couldn't tow it (not true, we had it privately towed the next day), that a manager would phone us (this never happened). At one point they even advised us to call 999 and tell them our car would not start. We didn't do this, it would be a complete abuse of the 999 emergency system, but the RAC seemed to think this acceptable advice! At 6.30pm, I collected my husband myself, and we left the car where it was overnight. It turns out that the RAC will not recover a vehicle damaged due to flood water. This should be made clear in the policy. However, that being the case, that should be made clear when a breakdown is reported. Customers should not be told that somebody is coming for seven hours, and then be told that it is not covered. We had to privately recover the vehicle the next day, a Sunday, having wasted the whole of Saturday waiting for the RAC in the cold, wet, and dark. We complained, the RAC acknowledge the service fell short and apologised. They even acknowledged that we had been told various things that were simply not true, so they had lied to us. They said they were sorry, and this was the end of the matter. There was no goodwill gesture offered, no explanation as to how this had happened, and no information as to what steps would be taken to ensure the system is improved. The RAC have gone from an organisation that I trusted and relied on, to an organisation of dishonesty and disappointment, with an attitude that they don't even try to hide which clearly states "we don't care about you, or your vehicle, or that we lied to you, or that we let you down." I shall never, ever renew my membership with them again.

I am paying for a service that I did not receive and my kids would have potentially been home alone for 3+ hours, had I not found someone myself. Called at 21.45 as my key was stuck. RAC said they couldn't help, but would put me in contact with a locksmith. Said they would call within the hour. They were aware rhat my sons (9 and 11) were home alone. I waited an hour and then had to find my own locksmith as the boys had been left for so long. My locksmith came within 20 mins and sorted the key in 5 mins. 00.16 I finally got a call from an RAC locksmith but I was home in bed by then. Just glad I didn't rely on them or my boys would gave been hone alone for hours!

Rated 1 out of 5 stars Bought a battery for my car delivered… Bought a battery for my car delivered broken leaking acid, informed your co . you said not our problem its our suppliers they will deal with it. you and your suppliers completely ignored everything including pictures as reference . I informed you that contract was with you , you did nothing. left me with a battery in my home leaking acid. I disposed of said battery and got my bank to start a claim back. Bought battery from reputable co and waited weeks for my refund. Overall the experience as left me thinking I will never use your co again. not at all sure why you thought it was a good idea to get feedback from me. I guess that says it all, your co is badly organized and the people that work there don't care . Trust pilot blocking my adding an edit for RAC so I put it here instead. One unethical company covering the back of an other. NICE Despite my unsubscribing to RAC emails they still send requests.

Shockingly awful company. Waited 2 days for a breakdown engineer to arrive. Then had to book a repair. Paid £500 for them to come today, got text this morning saying they were coming. At 3pm called RAC to find out where the repair van was and was told they can’t do it today. Spent 25 mins on the phone and have rebooked for a weeks time but haven’t received any confirmation. Truly abysmal ‘service’. Will never renew cover with RAC.
