Car broke down in Belgium in may, delays with garage/arranging recovery to the UK. Effectively told "out of our hands". Horrendous customer service. No ownership of the issue. Avoid

On 1Oth April l ordered and paid for a new battery for my Ford Kuga on the website of the RAC. The patrol man came to fit it and had brought 2 batteries, he explained when these batteries are ordered they are usually the wrong ones ,so he always carries a one that will fit if this problem occurs. The ordered one didn't fit so, he fitted the other battery that he had brought and I paid for that battery when He had finished ,and requested a refund for the one I had bought online . When I got the refund it was £45/85p short of what I paid, when I queried this I was told it was the fitting fee !! When I replied and told them this battery HADN'T been fitted ,I got no reply and after several unanswered E. Mails and telephone calls and a letter, still no reply!! Their customer care seems non existent,so on this experience I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

In May 2025 I bought the £99 RAC Diagnostics offer, which advertised that their mechanic would spend 90 minutes performing 40+ tests on my car, produce a report of any faults found, and explain repairs required. My 19-year-old car had been off-road since July 2024 when I had an accident and lost my driving licence due to a medical condition. I was expecting the DVLA to return my driving licence to me within the next couple of months. I was concerned that leaving my old car standing stationary for most of a year might have caused it severe damage. I didn't know whether it would be worth getting it back on the road and through its MOT once I could legally drive again. So the RAC Diagnostics offer sounded ideal. However, all their mechanic did was essentially inform me that my car battery was dead — which I already knew. They charged me £99 for this. I submitted a complaint to customer service. They rang me five and a half weeks later, twisted my words, and closed the case.

Left a 22 yr old female with a 2 yr old child stranded with an 8 hour wait. No contact no response. Family member travelled over 150 miles to assist. Cancelled membership.

Rac Motoring Services what an absolutely appalling company! After breaking down on route to the airport over a week ago and returned early hours of yesterday to sort out their mess and collect recovered vehicle. Failed to deliver on promises and now sat in another garage due to the same issue that was supposedly sorted! Complaint submitted and told can take 8 weeks for a response! Promised numerous call backs that never happened and 2 ladies one of which elderly and disabled left extremely vulnerable

Absolutely terrible service, unfortunately I'm stuck with them, always at least 4 hours before they will come to you. After picking my partner up from hospital after major surgery the clutch went on my car, you cannot speak to them so I filled in the box on line explaining that she was in her pyjamas and very ill, there reply was we'll get someone to you in 4 to 5 hours. Switching to a better breakdown company asap Definitely do nit wate your money on the RAC

Absolutely useless. Had us waiting 7-8 hours when the ETA was due in 3. Never even completed our job and passed it on to a private company. No apologies or any sense of sincerity what so ever. No communication and absolutely useless. Next time I break down I’ll just push the car myself it’ll probably be faster than waiting for a response

I was pretty disappointed with my recent experience with RAC. I was at home when I called them for a flat tyre and instead of sending me help to get my tyre repaired and put me back on the road they pushed me to buy a new tyre through their mobile tyre service. The mobile tyre company was however, very prompt and professional and got the job done quickly but I was told the tyre was easily reparable. So I felt cheated out of my pocket to be put in a spot by RAC where, instead of providing me the breakdown and repair service that I was paying for, they persuaded me to buy a new tyre which, I think was unnecessary.

Never using or recommending mobile mechanics. Terrible services. Only interested in money. Gave me a wrong diagnostics. Ended up spending double the amount in fixing as a result of their wrong diagnostics. Despite me complaining, they were only interested in giving me a quote for follow up work. Worst mechanics ever.

Purchased a car battery from RAC 3 years ago with a 5 year warranty after 3 years the battery is not charging, RAC are not happy to change it under warranty as it’s reading is below 11 and it’s not covered by T AND C. The mileage on the battery approx 12 to 13 thousand. Very poor customer service had to purchase new battery as we’re stuck. What’s the point of warranty? !!!!

Waited in two days to get my vehicle recovered to a garage, over which I wasn’t given one update unless I called them. Called six times and was given different arrival estimates each time. Two days of work missed and they simply couldn’t have cared a less. Don’t use them - absolutely dreadful.

Chose RAC due to great reviews, trustworthy, great response times. First time using them to report a car that wouldn't start. Unable to speak to an actual person, just sent a link to follow, paying an excess fee of £45 even before continuing with the report. This was at 14:30, the first ETA was between 15:30 and 16:30. This then changed to a time slot between 17:00 and 19:00. Meaning the wait could be up to 4.5 hours! Put a Plan B into place whereby my wife was coming to me with jump leads after work. She got to me and everything was sorted. RAC then rang to say they were on the way but I explained the situation, he apologised for the very long wait time and said to call customer services to arrange a refund of the £45. This is now proving impossible as I cannot get through to anyone that can help on the phone. Transferred multiple times only for the automated voice to say the line was closed. It's an automated hell-hole of a service, it really is. None of the options relate at all and if I do get through to someone to explain the situation they say they can't help and I need such and such department but then the route to them stops. It's so frustrating and pathetic. After this is sorted I'll be cancelling my membership and going elsewhere.

Absolute rubbish call out was started at 4pm and there gonna send someone for 11pm to 2am. Used AA and green flag in the past there’s been long waits but 12hr wait is mental. Will have to cancel and try someone else

We have had to call the RAC out twice recently and both times the RAC mechanics have provided excellent service and knowledge.
