Have RAC cover through Arval. Had puncture that could not be repaired with in-car repair kit & needed recovery to home address. Had to abort this so-called rescue about 12hrs in & get taken to tyre centre instead. Took 16hrs in all to get home (+being up since 6am previous day). Would not recommend even with someone else paying.

They refused to here her complaint! Rude on the phone, charged her £89 for NOT collecting her! Having to take it further as RAC ‘don’t do compensation’ Disgusting service!!

I had brilliant service . They were with me within 30mins. The patrol guy rang me to say he was on his way. He was so friendly and made me feel relaxed about the whole thing. Had my car sorted in an hour. Thankyou for great service

We broke down last night at 10.30. each time we rang we were put on hold for 20-25 mins. Each time we were told it's gonna be about 45 mins. They weren't ringing us with updates, each time we needed to ring them. To cut long story short, after 3 hours of waiting, ringing,, hearing they're NOT an EMERGENCY break down service - JUST a breakdown service (yes that's what we heard!) We rang our friend, who dropped us home. We got a trailer, went back, luckily car was still there (it was in the middle of nowhere - dark, fields around) and we ended up putting the carbon the trailer ourselves and towing it! Thinking what if it was just me without my other half! Shocking

Ive complained over the phone and don't seem to have gotten anywhere, so I'll do it here. I was in a party of two when we broke down on the M5 on May 20th. We called the RAC at 6pm asking for assistance. We were told on the phone that someone would be with us in an hour. Half an hour later, we received a text confirming this. After another hour (1.5 hrs total) we decided to ring the RAC to see what was going on. The woman on the phone stated that no one had been called to get to us and that we were now looking at another hour again before someone would get to us. We were on the side of the motorway and sitting amongst brambles, next to a bridge with some shifty looking people passing by. Explaining that we were becoming frightened on the phone didn't seem to bring any empathy. It was gone 9pm before someone arrived and followed us to a nearby services. After this, we were assured that someone would collect us to tow us home. After another three hours (6 in total), we rang to check this. Again, we were told that no one had actually been called out for us and that we were very likely to end up waiting all night. We were given the option of waiting in the hope of someone potentially becoming free, which the caller stated was unlikely, or that we could be booked a hotel room nearby. As no times were given for the hotel room, we decided there wasn't much point in taking that option as we just wanted to get home. At 2am (8 hours after calling), someone arrived to take us home and did so. The following week, we complained and asked to cancel our membership, due to the unreliable information we were being given when in a very vulnerable situation. We were told this was not possible, despite knowing that it is. We were then promised a £35 check in the post, which did not arrive. We just want to leave the RAC, as we no longer feel safe and have no trust in your service. We deserve a refund for this year due to our appalling experience

Purchased membership in June 2017 after been given a quote. Decided to pay the whole amount using my debit card. On 6th June 2018 I noticed that a £138 pounds had gone out of my account. Telephoned them and advised that it was automatic renewal and they had sent letter to me. I Said I had not received it and demanded a refund. Advised it would take up to 14 days. Scammers.

I was informed the wait would be UP TO 90 minutes at 01.36 but at 02.52 I received a call to say wait may be ANOTHER 90 minutes. Waiting for manager response.

We broke down on a hot Sunday afternoon at 19hrs (7pm) it took an average of 55 mins to get someone to answer our call. we've called back multiply times because we’re not getting regular updates. Our last update was at 10.40 when we were advised that the RAC had still not found a contractor to help us. It’s now 2.03 in the morning and we’re still stuck in a very dark lay-by and no idea when help might arrive. As I write this review my husband is on the phone yet again waiting for someone to pick up (we’ve been on hold so far for 1hour 10 mins). This is not a breakdown emergency service it is a complete farce. Update - we held on the phone in the end for a total of 1hour 40 mins. We eventually received assistance at 4pm not from RAC who still hadn’t responded but by fiat who also couldn’t get hold of the RAC so stepped in and found a recovery engineer who fixed our vechle within minutes enabling us to be on the road again by 4.30. We arrived home at 5.30 in time for my husband to have a quick breakfast and head to work. Total recovery time 9 hours 30 mins.

90 minutes to get through to someone on the phone and after 6 hours I am still waiting for someone to tow me to a garage as they are apparently 'extremely busy' as usual. Was stuck on the hard shoulder for 3 hours until they bothered to send a local firm to at least tow me to safety.

Hi, I broken down this evening in my way home, I have to say the service I received was fantastic. From the advisor on the telephone to the RAC engineer. The engineer within seconds explain what was wrong with my car, temporarily fixed the problem so me and my daughter could get home. He advised what I should do to get it fixed, he also advised the best way to drive the car back home so we made it back.... I’ve also received an email providing me with the details of what is wrong so I can give this to the garage. This was also help so I could google it myself so I understood the issue and means that the garage couldn’t then baffle me with technical car talk. So thank you for your assistance RAC, highly recommended

Bitterly disapointed in the poor service. As loyal members for 10 years we will now not be renewing our policy after being left at the road side on a busy round about. We had to ring the AA as the RAC were unable to pick us up. Rude staff on the phone who did not put us at ease. The RAC advised us to ring the police to fix the broken suspension! Livid with the lack of customer care! There is no care! Paid for them to pick us up in an emergency and had to ring the AA! We will now be moving to the AA who picked us up within 20 mins. Thank you to the AA who picked us up swiftly and did not ask for a penny!

My daughter broke down with her 20-month-old daughter on the M11 last week 21/6/18. She called the RAC who got there in 20 minutes. Good I thought. He said the car was a write-off and they manged to get the car off of the M11 onto quiet piece of road. The mechanic Ben said the RAC would call her in a few minutes. This did not happen. Then the mechanic drove off and left them both alone. After I had complained, and she had phoned them in a desperate state herself, the RAC finally called an independent company to pick her and baby up. She waited over two hours in the dark on a remote road, scared, with a young crying child. SINCE WHEN HAS IT BEEN COMMON PRACTICE TO LEAVE MOTHER AND CHILD STRANDED ALL ALONE IN REMOTE UNLIT AREAS?! SHE JOINED THE RAC TO AVOID THIS SORT OF DISASTER, NOT FOR THE RAC TO COMPOUND IT AND MAKE IT WORSE!

I’ve been with the RAC for 4 yrs very expensive they are too and when I needed them most they wouldn’t come out because I drove a van, and said it was for business use and I would have to pay £110 call out fee and wait 4-6 hrs for the privilege, I could have pushed it home quicker, not only that but I spoke to 2 customer service reps that day one of which I think was half asleep the other very arrogant. My vehicle is used for personal use but RAC would not accept this, so I complained and the customer service ( if you can call it that) was useless took a long time to respond after the initial complaint and nothing was resolved. Go with Green Flag or AA they are cheaper and have same cover.

Second time now I have called out the RAC - both times the roadside mechanic was good, but the back office and dispatchers are shocking and incredibly rude - especially in their so called dispatch office. The claim 40 minutes to an hour for the call out to arrive - on both occasions was 3 hours from my call. Worse still the initial dispatcher tells me its a certain time, I get a call 15 minutes later from a different person telling me its going to be a much later time, then another call from someone else telling me its going to be later still. BUT - the worst thing was the first occasion when I had broken down by the side of a very fast A road with no hard shoulder.........very dangerous but it just didn't seem to matter..... Going to cancel my membership and go with a professional operation. Oh and to top it all - when I did get recovered eventually on the 1st breakdown, (having waited nearly 8 hours by the side of a road), the contractor they used told me its an RAC policy to string things out to see which contractor they can get at the cheapest rate so the dispatch centre are happy to leave customers waiting for 4+ hours to try to save a few pounds..........none of the others do this .......only the RAC. Never again. Cowboys - and with this level of customer service their business model is unsustainable.
