Title: Disappointing Service: A 5-Hour Wait to Jump-Start a Car with RAC Customer service is not just about offering assistance; it's about providing prompt and reliable support, especially during emergencies. Sadly, my experience with the RAC (Royal Automobile Club) was far from satisfactory when my car battery died. The 5-hour wait to jump-start my car left me frustrated and disappointed with the service provided. First and foremost, a 5-hour wait for a jump-start is inexplicable, especially considering that this is a service specifically designed for emergencies. When my car wouldn't start, I expected a swifter response from the RAC to minimize the inconvenience and get me back on the road as soon as possible. The prolonged wait time not only disrupted my plans for the day but also left me stranded in an unfamiliar location for an extended period. With no updates or proactive communication from the RAC during the wait, my frustration only grew. Additionally, the lack of a backup plan or alternative solutions offered by the RAC further highlighted their poor service delivery. Customer service is integral to any service-based company, especially when customers find themselves in difficult situations. Unfortunately, the RAC failed to meet even the basic expectations of promptness and communication, leaving me feeling let down by a company that is supposed to provide dependable emergency assistance. Aside from the extensive wait time, there were further issues with the service provided during this ordeal. When the technician called. I would strongly caution anyone considering the RAC's services to explore alternative options that prioritize customer satisfaction and offer more efficient and reliable support during emergencies. In a situation where time and reliability matter the most, it is clear that the RAC's service fell immensely short of expectations.

Absolute waste of time. This company left me stranded for 7 hours ten miles away from my destination having travelled 180 miles. In the end they offered a taxi which came nearly enough after 4 hrs !!! Absolute waste of money. I should have gone with the AA. If any one is reading this stay absolutely clear. Capitalist good for nothing organisation. Quick to take your money but never delivering on there own statement. Waste!

Bro their pics are terrible. Research the products your gonna be getting majority will be have a up sale of over 3x the retail rate and considering even with interest....THATS A SCAM. I WILL NEVER PAY THAT. I HOPE THIS COMPANY AND OTHERS LIKE IT EAT THE DIRT . this is literally disgusting and high "interest rates" on top of over pricing, is really really pathetic. I sincerely hope the bloodline of the ownership and creators of company's like this deplete and not get a proper burial .

If I could rate less than 1, trust me I would. Had a car puncture so lost a tyre on hard shoulder. Called RAC at 2:30am. Told them I have asthma and anxiety and car is obstructing road. They advised they could not tell me when someone will be out to me by. It was cold, I was unable to get any food/drink. I was left for 7 hours, did not get help until 09.06am Had to leave car there and spend money going to and from place as I was unable to wait there. Useless bunch of clowns.

STAY AWAY FROM RAC , AVOID THEM EVEN YOU ARE DESPERATE! CONSCIOUSLY EXPOSE MY CHILDREN UNDER 13'S to DANGER stress and health damage. they give incorrect information over the phone and laugh in your face!!! children and my husband have been waiting for a tow truck for 4 hours because the mechanic who was sent could not repair it on the spot! -we paid RAC £200 for his arrival!! -Ford galaxy/ engine overheated. my husband had to buy their insurance and then we paid £360, which gives us a total of £560 for car recovery. he was told that someone would call soon and take care of the car. No one has contacted us for 4 hours, the children are scared and cold. Saturday, night, local hotels no longer accept guests, taxis do not pick up calls, trains do not run. my children are sleeping in the car, cold, exposed to trauma!!!I called RAc several times within hours and they couldn't tell me when someone would come to pick them up. even though I made them aware that the case would end up in court because they knowingly put my children at risk, they gave us incorrect information about the service and waiting time, and they charge £560 for a service that no one has been willing to perform for over 4 hours now !

Please avoid at all cost because been messed around on the roadside for 9 hrs on a Saturday. These guys are complete jokers and be warned because I have experienced first hand their incompetence and if it wasn't that the cover is part of my barclays travel insurance I would have cancelled this and go for AA. Shame on you RAC and your are inhumane

YOU SHOULD HANG YOUR HEADS IN SHAME, BUT YOU WON'T. I broke down at 9am on Wed 13th Sept 2023. I called the RAC immediately and the operative asked me if i knew what the problem was. I told him that the car had a burst gearbox oil pipe. He told me an engineer would attend and I'd get text messages to update. I thought that was ok until i recieved the 1st message around 10 minutes later telling me i was targeted for 2pm and i would recieve further updates. "5 bloody hours" I thought, that was til 10am i recieved the 2nd message. My target time was now 3pm. Thats still 5 hours after waiting an hour. 11am arrived along with my 3rd message. Target time now 4pm. After waiting 2 hours (which in their adverts say this is their target time) I've still got to wait another 5 hours. At 4:30pm the guy finally arrived after 7 and 1/2 hours. In the initial call I'd said that the problem was an oil leak. The guy in the van told me I needed a truck to put the car on. He couldn't tow me because of the oil leaking onto the road. I asked him how long that would take, he told me he didn't know and the best he could do was book one for 8am the next morning. I'd had enough by now so agreed to that. I was left to get a taxi home costing £20.20. An other taxi back the following morning £20.20 i arrived at 7:45 am. 8am came and went, nothing. I rang at 8:30 only to be told my target time was 12noon. They'd had 15 hours to find a truck. Finally at 1pm the truck arrived. In total I waited 11 and 1/2 hours. I could have pushed it in that time. They are a disgrace to the breakdown service but happy to take my £45 a month. Well, my friends, no more. I'll put my £45 into a pot each month and use it to call a breakdown garage. I asked the truck driver how much it would have cost if I'd have called him direct. £180 (4 months subscription) and he would have been with me in minutes and at the garage within an hour. I haven't used the RAC for about 3 years and that equates to around £1600. Don't go anywhere near them. YOU SHOULD HANG YOUR HEADS IN SHAME

Wish we read these reviews before taking out cover on a small fleet of Vans one broke down at 9:30 this morning and our guy is still waiting for a recovery vehicle, all the garages will be closed he hasn’t been able to get a drink or have any food it’s now 19:00 hrs. It would have cost us Ā£200 to get a tow truck out off our own backs, oh how we wished we had taken that option. In the future that is what we will do as the cost of the guys wages, loss of work has cost us dearly Ā£200 for an independent tow truck would have been a lot cheaper oh and if you dare shout or get mad on the phone they can cancel your call and your policy. Go elsewhere for cover.

Left me stranded on a hard shoulder with live lanes of traffic because it was not safe to recover me. Wont uphold my complaint or refund me. Waste of money, had to pay for a man in a van to rescue me.

Can't rate the service any more than 1 star because they didn't give us any. After hours there wasn't even anyone assigned, at which time we were told it would be another few hours before someone came out. Then we'd have to wait for a tow vehicle so after breaking down at 7:30 we were looking at going well into the AM.

My car was towed off the M11 by the RAC and left at Rowland Ridgway garage in Stanstead where the engineer said it would be fixed and returned thereafter to my home (three hours away). I also have this in writing in the Breakdown Report. My car is still at that garage and despite having full breakdown cover will not be returned to me without charge (which is huge). I have tried to call the RAC on numerous occasions but its "customer service" team can't be reached by telephone - the line simply goes dead - and emails (and now complaints through its online forms) have been ignored. I have been told by Rowland Ridgway Stanstead that the car is blocking its car park and storage charges may now apply. I no longer have a car, cannot take my children to school, and cannot meet clients (I run a small business). If I can say one thing about the RAC its: AVOID! TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE

RAC were suppose to pick up my car from my local garage on Thursday 7 Sept 2023 and take it to a specialist garage. They did not turn up at my local garage or tell me that they did not turn up. I called the specialist garage today, 12 Sept 2023, to try and find out what was happening re my car. I use my car for my parents who are elderly and disabled to take them to hospital/doctors appointments as they have wheelchairs. The specialist garage informed me that my car had been delivered to their showroom on Saturday, 9 Sept 2023 but as the repair shop is closed they could not accept the car. I rang the RAC and was told they had taken it to their South Mimms depo and it was there. The call centre gentleman could not explain why nobody had contacted me but said he would arrange for it to be delivered to the specialist garage today and although the system said it would take 5 hours it should arrive sooner than that. The time was 1.15pm. I called the garage at 4.30pm and no sign of my car and they said they could no longer accept it as they had expected it last Thursday, 7 Sept and it was now Tuesday 12 Sept and it had still not been delivered. I wish to note it was the specialist garage who told us to use RAC. I started calling the call centre again and got through at 5.15pm. I was told my car was still at the South Mimms depo. I told the lady to bring my car to my home address. She said it would be another 5 hours, so to expect it at 10.15pm I called the Call Centre at 10.45pm and was informed that they were now not going to deliver it until tomorrow, Wednesday 13 Sept 2023. I told the gentleman nobody had called me back to tell me this and he just said put in a complaint. So I would strongly suggest you do not use this service as my car has now been missing since Thursday 7 Sept 2023 and I have absolutely no idea when I am going to get it back from the RAC. If I could I would rate them with NO STARS

I broke down 26 hours ago, left there absolutely stranded kept getting told they're on the way, finially 26 hours later they showed up, took my car while I made my own way home because it was a split recovery, they then left my car unattended for 4 hours at a service station with the key in the vehicle after promising me it would be a direct swap and never left unattended with the keys...This is still on going and they dont know when my car and key will be picked up from the services and brought home. Ultimate stress and panic. This is not a cheap car by any means. RAC are a disgrace

Try a different breakdown service… Reported a breakdown at 4pm. Still stranded at 11pm. No help from RAC, just apologies and ā€œwe are doing our best to get to you as soon as possibleā€. Absolutely rubbish

Unbelievably poor. On a Sunday, the least busiest day of the week at Toddington Services on the M1. Decent guy came after two hours but couldn't fix so we have been left there for another six hours in the blazing heat. We've seen a couple of dozen AA vehicles and not one RAC. RAC have had to send out a private contractor to do it...8 hours at Toddington Services! Unbelievable!

Following my previous review regarding RAC breakdown service a total failiour Background - I have requested Rac to assist me to help start my car on Friday evening 9.9.23 about 10 pm I had no response nor any acknowledgment either. I also called Saturday morning the 10 th reported by phone and on the app but did not get a reply few hours later which said they come to attend the vhiclle between 4-7 pm however they did not turn up then. I was out for diner after that On my return I found a note that they arrive 22.35 n I was not there I called this morning n talk to breakdown driver who said he can not help n have to rebook the service from the beginning It’s unacceptable to me and to all others who have been let down by RAC I’m a member in the last 10 years and will stop this from now on Let me know What’s ur experience Alex

Broke down at seaside. No phone signal there so walked half-mile up the road to get one. Operative was clearly on a short fuse, advising that call can’t be taken unless stood by the car. Hung up, got through to a decent, considerate operative who advised pick up would be 6pm (4 hours) - not good enough, frankly. Anyway, by this time, we’d worked out that the car problem was caused by swimming with the keys in my pocked (der). Took the fob apart, clean and dried it, and it worked. But not impressed with operative #1’s attitude, nor the advised 4 hours wait for service.

Worst breakdown company ever. I broke down yesterday, called them around 2pm, almost 7 hours later they were still not with me but busy sending messages of apology for the delays. It was a heatwave day, with 2 small kids in the car aged 4 and 5 years who got so dehydrated and hungry. Had to call a private mechanic to rescue me around 9pm and i paid £200. They still never came and i had to cancel the request when my mechanic was on his way. I'm cancelling my membership.
