have been with the rac for over 20 years and have been great when we needed them; but the premiums have gone up every year. we were offered green flag with our car insurance that costs less for the same type of cover we had with the rac. we received notice from the rac about renewing our automatic renewal; last years premium was £208 this year £250, 20% increase. phoned rac to say we were not renewing this year. they asked how many cars we had, we have one car. they offered a reduced fee as we only have the one car, new quote £180; we have had only one car for 15 years now and they knew it. its about time they looked after their loyal customers.

They don't cover flat tires. Even though it's covered in the policy RAC claim flat tires are driver induced fault and won't help.

My son has broken down in Scotland in the middle of no where he has been there for twos hrs so far. The latest update is that he could be waiting between 5pm and 7pm for someone to attend. I think this is appalling and if someone from the RAC is reading this, get someone out to aid my son in his broken down car,

RAC and RACQ be warned as a disabled pensioner, why would you have Pet Insurance using these unscrupulous and unconscionable cohorts? Whatever possessed me to think showing loyalty and insuring my pet with a company I have two cars and house insurance with was a smart idea! Well, that will now change. I have had Pet Insurance on our 3-year-old Kings Charles Cavalier Pup for 3 years, I made the first claim PP1500290, and of course, the current ear infection is pre existing condition we got her at 7 weeks and we did not buy a 7-week-old pup with ear infections. Watch this space as I now work through all the BS as they try to make me walk away. It will be a blow-by-blow. The only thing that will go ]away is 3 other policies and membership of RAC when it falls due. Well done RAC I think not!

Shockingly bad service. Have been waiting 6 hours (from 2pm) with a text sent giving an update at 4.17pm. It is now 8pm and no sign of arrival. The priority number provided on their website if your ‘safety is at risk’ is not answered. I will be cancelling my membership!

R.A.C Car insurance!!…never again! Put a private plate on admin charge take a plate off admin charge… sell the car, charge charge charge! Don’t mind if the admin charge price reasonable but £55 to cancel your insurance policy is robbery.

This shower took over 27 hours (no, that's not a typo!!!) to tow my car home after a breakdown, and then failed to reply to my complaint for 2 months. I have lost wages etc as a result of their abysmal service, as well as the obvious inconvenience. I have now lodged a formal complaint with the Financial Ombudsman Service, as this firm clearly couldn't give a **** about their customers. Avoid them like the plague! I've only given them 1-star as zero doesn't appear to be an option.

I have left truly genuine reviews about how I was ignored when the new exhaust that I had fitted by Kwik fit to my car ..it was the incorrect one..buckeld into the wheel and suspension and broke the drives haft and etc and the RAC refused to come out because they said that they had been to the same thing before although obviously I had been back to KW and other garages in between and ordered a correct one from mu property garage fir after the lockdown ..They reused to attend I was out longer then got arrested and then a whole other story ensued...The RAC refuses SAR and dues not answer complaints this a whole court case that I was dragged through later and when I put reviews about them and Lyons Davisson their legal helpline Obviously true ones for being do bad they tell Trust pilot that u am not a member ie that it didn't happen and take it down cancelling ones Trust pilot account BAD Big time BAD

AVOID AVOID AVOID - Been a member for 30 years! Had very little need to use them until recently. Following an accident (in which I was injured) I called to ask for their help to recover the vehicle. After a long wait I was told to try my insurance or local recovery as they would not help. (My 'Arrival' policy clearly states they will recover after an accident.) Not interested. I have since made several calls and filed a formal complaint but no one will discuss this with me and no one has returned my calls. Disgusted and looking to take legal action to recover 30 years of wasted premiums. Staff have been totally unhelpful and don't return calls when they say they will. 'Left hand doesn't appear to know what the right hand's doing'! Chronic disorganisation. AVOID AVOID AVOID

This company is terrible. I was a member from 1984 until very recently (39 years). I broke down approx 20 miles south of Glasgow with my wife and elderly mother in the car. I eventually got home at around 02:30 after calling them around 14:30. The lady who eventually helped was obviously a fixer as the problem was escalated to her and she was good. RAC resources are seriously lacking and sub contracting is not working. After being a loyal member for many years to be let down like this is disgusting. When I called to cancel the " sorry for your inconvenience" was infuriating. I am now with another company. Loyalty does not matter, when I needed you then you let me down.

RAC took money from my account after opting out last year, and I got an email telling me they would be taking £55.99 from my account, I called them again to tell them not to take anything out of my account and that I wanted to be rid of RAC, the employee on the phone was rude and kept trying to barter to keep me on, he hung up on me and guess what - no email to confirm i have opted out. Scam company keep away.

We broke down and in total waited 11hrs for our car to be uplifted and no recovery truck arrived. We are 83 and 79yrs old and after numerous calls to RAC on 14th September they eventually arranged for us to be taken home by taxi. It was 12pm and we arrived home at 1am having left our car to be picked up that night. The car hadn't been collected at 9am and we were offered £150 by a woman called Marva in the RAC recovery department to arrange our own collection from 60 miles away. It cost us £200 and RAC agreed to reimburse us. It is now 3rd October and despite several emails we still have not received any payment. They are a truly dreadful organisation to deal with, and trying to speak to someone is extremely time consuming and frustrating. We were kept waiting for 27mins while the operator in breakdown customer services looked into our case and said someone would call us to arrange the payment. Needless to say the call still hasn't come!!! We can quite understand that people get abusive while going through all the rigmarole of trying to get assistance, it is so difficult to get through to anyone and you just end up getting stressed out. So we are still waiting to get our money back.

Absolutely dreadfull, do not think about signing up if you values your sanity. I broke down in my classic car and they did everything to not attend. Firstly they told me to call the emergency services because I broke down on a road and it was too dangerous for the engineer to attend. I was on a minor A road in Devon with little traffic... Secondly they said my car was not MOT'd so they would not attend. The car is MOT exempt and fully road legal. When I argued this they demanded documents that do not exist and if they did would be impossible to get hold of whilst stuck at the side of the road. The DVLA website they were using clearly showed the car was fully road legal but the call handler would not accept that. After 10 minutes of this , baring in mind I was supposedly in a dangerous situation, he announced he was canceling the call which resulted in me uttering a single swear word as he hung up on me. To make matters worse , whilst I was trying to push the car to safety I got a call from the RAC to tell me off and to say my call was cancelled because I had used a single unacceptable word. Needless to say I exploded at him (I am normally a very calm person). I have wriiten in to formally complain and demand my money back but have responded by saying they will answer me in 8 Weeks. The next step is the FCA ...

If I could leave a minus star review I would. Yes I was an idiot I put the wrong fuel in my car. Called the RAC and was informed that as it was a “personal error” I would need to pay almost £250 extra for the fuel recovery. They took my money and sent me texts to say help was on the way. Website said within 2 hours. ThenI get a call to say they weren’t coming and their partners weren’t coming either!!! They offered to transport me 10 miles down the road! That still 60 miles from my home! They can’t give me my money back straight away and it could take 5 days! Meanwhile they are still texting to say help is on the way. Please don’t join this shower. It’s a rip off.
