"for 2 senior citizens, a very distressing start to our holiday, the oldest con in the book " I paid in advance to rent a volkswagen from midday sunday 5/5/19 to midday sunday 12/5/19, the flight was on time ay 14.30, when we finally got to green motion [ looked like a breakers yard]after dragging our suitcases through gravel on a very dangerous road, we were told the car wasn't available and we would have to pay an extra 45 euros for a larger car, apparently I did not read the terms and conditions. after agreeing an extra 30 euros, after a heated phone conversation with "maria", we were given an absolutely filthy nissan, I washed it myself later.the success of any business depends on repeat trade and customer satisfaction , I will stick with "alamo"/enterprise car hire in future and never go anywhere near "green motion" or easyrent cars Danny Clark Review on EasyRentCars.com 4.0 I was under the impression the office was inside the airport, and i dont understand why the car i had rented wasn't available

Rented in Vilnius. Worst experience ever! Was given different car, not the one I've booked with warranteed make and model. Collection took half an hour, was charged 73 Euro "administration fee" for forwarding to me parking penalty charge €15 which I paid immediately via email 2 weeks after returning the car. At the end it cost me more then any best car rental company would charge.

Beware - out flights were delayed and by the time we arrived they rented our car out to somebody else and refused to even refund us. We were on our way to a family funeral with an 18 month old. You get what you pay for. Stay well away.

Is this the worse hire company in Iceland - green motion Having just returned from Iceland I feel compelled to write this email and provide feedback on our experiences. We hired a Jeep from green motion at the airport. The Jeep had a few issues e.g. door wouldn’t close properly and fuel cap broken but as we were keen to start our holiday we left the airport. After 100 miles the front tyre burst causing us to have to make an emergency stop - really quite traumatic. When we took the tyre off it had very little tread. The tyre was illegal and dangerous. Also the car had no warning triangle to put onto the road so we had to change the wheel watching out for oncoming traffic. When we called the company we were told to go to a garage and get it replaced and they would pay if indeed it was illegal. The garage confirmed the tyre was illegal and dangerous and also that another tyre was illegal on the car which they replaced. They also mentioned the cars tracking was completely wrong. I called the car hire company asking for the car to be replaced and was told to come back the following day to get another car. We returned the car the following day and after much discussion they found another car which they gave us. The replacement car on starting had an alert warning saying it needed a service - we asked the hire company about this and were told the computer hadn’t been reset in the engine management system. So we set off and after a few minutes we then noticed the tyre pressure warning light had come on so we returned to the hire company. We were told they had no other cars so we had to have that car or nothing. So as our holiday was already delayed we had to accept this. Later on in the day we noticed that one of the tyres was deflating so we went to a garage to inflate it to the correct pressure. Having now lost a day returning the car we decided to live with the tyre deflating and to pump it up each day. When we returned the replacement car at the end of the holiday we asked to speak to the supervisor whose attitude was one of “I don’t really care” about your issues and the fact that we were given not one car that was dangerous and illegal but two. When asked for compensation she was unable to offer a realistic figure that could make up for the lost holiday time, lost bookings for trips etc. So in summary .... We lost a day changing vehicles and missed booked events. BUT the real issue we have is that green motion knowingly gave us 2 vehicles one of which had illegal tyres on it and that both cars were dangerous to drive. If you use this company please check the vehicle thoroughly and please stay safe

hands down this is the worst Car Rental Company in the planet ...How they get away with reaping off customers is beyond me , Picked up a rental car at 11pm at night ....They give u a number to call the following morning if you have any issues with the car. I had called the toll free number the next day b4 10m ...to report that the car alloys wheels had a little scatch....Could not get through to any number that was provided in nearly 4 hours ....i returned the car 7days later ..was billed nearly $900 for the little scatch and they said a lump on one of the tires...yeah $900.00. Zero customer service Over 10miles from the airport

Charged me for body preexisting scratches and tyre consumption marks. However when I rent a car from a company, I dont expect to take videos or images and I was not instructed to do so by your staff. I base my deal on trust. Discrepancy between your delivering staff and receiving staff degree of scrutiny is the problem. I guess they punish customers for not purchasing their insurance

Horrible experience. We had to wait for 1 hour in a queue before we could do the paperwork and then didn't leave until 20 minutes later. We had to pay extra as we only had a debit card and not a credit card which is ridiculous. Service did not seem to take into account that we had been waiting so long. When we dropped off the car the queue was even longer so their process seems to be highly inefficient.

This is a warning to anyone renting a car from green motion Manchester airport so you can avoid what happened to me. I have renting cars at Manchester Airport for years and have never had a problem. It is clear that some people will fall for their unscrupulous behaviour which is legal. I have used my current ASB New Zealand credit car for a minimum of 5 car rentals over last 18 months. I do not take out car rental insurance through car rental company I use holiday insurance. The car rental ensures I am aware of putting a hold on about 1000 pounds of which I completely understand. The way car rental co makes money is through encouraging you to take out their insurance but they back down pretty quickly if you say no. I always check car thoroughly and ensure they add even smallest mark. Now my problem was purely with my credit card which unless embossed they tell me cannot safely put hold on money they require in case of accident. I don’t know any other car rental that insist on embossed card. They informed me the only way was to take out their insurance. Price I would of paid with embossed card $744 turned into over 1800. They also took 200$ incase of fines I doubt i’ll Get that back. The woman behind desk has been well trained. No emotion no reaction. Please take note the only car hire place at this site is green motion. The site is rough gravelled muddy I’m glad I wasn’t flying out as shoes were muddy trousers covered to. So ensure you have easy to clean shoes and change of trousers. The bus is clearly marked green motion and it’s a big bus not minivan. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE EMBOSSED credit card. Learnt my lesson will not be using them again. Have always used car rental at car rental village which is well situated and lots of choices and take my credit card.

I would have given no stars if it was an option. Avoid Green Motion absolutely. On returning a vehicle to Edinburgh airport I was charged in excess of £250 for an invisible scratch. The only reason the attendant saw anything was because he put it there. I believe this absolutely. Total scammers

They advertise at a very low price and then load up the price when you get there. Also when ensure that you get a copy of the paperwork when returning the car. I wouldn't deal with this company again, very untrustworthy

BEWARE - I have rented literally hundreds of cars across the world and Greenmotion are the lowest of the low by far. They use every tactic in the book and will detail these below. i am sure i am touching the the tip of the ice berg. While the headline rate is often very low, maybe 1/3 less than anyone else they are bad beyond belief. I was coming to the City Airport branch. Firstly when i got to City Airport and called them regarding the airport shuttle they said they would not pick me up as i did not fly into City Airport, i would need to walk. OK not a good start but 15 minutes later i arrived. There was a long and angry queue. Firstly Greenmotion are the only car company i can remember that asks for 2 printed and official utility bills? Who today has that in the age of soft copies? I had actually read the small print and managed to find 1 official document and some additional letters showing my address from the passport office that was as official as i could get. This was not accepted. it had to be a printed utility or bank statement clearly showing my name and address. obviously this was all to then try and sell me £50 a day insurance. Given i was spending 6 days, 4 of which the car is not used i did not want to pay £300 extra for insurance for my car, especially when i had a carhire insurance policy but they said without the 2 official documents i could not rent a car unless i took out their ridiculously overpriced insurance. As i was about 1 hour away from home i said i would go to the bank and get the printed bank statement signed by the bank and come back that would suffice. i went off to do this and also had to re-arrange some childcare but managed to get back. i then presented the documents to them and they said i had missed the 2 hour window when i was supposed to pickup the car. Also they did not even look at the documents i had gone to get. Clearlt the ruse had moved onto a new one. They clearly knew how long i was likely to be when i went off to get the paperwork and come back but failed to tell me. They said the car was no longer available. i was one of 2 people who were caught exactly the same in the office at the same time. They would not budge. A third person wanted to use AMEX but they also would not budge on that and said they needed to go home, clearly all intent on making them latea and fall outside the 2 hour window. They then offered me an upgrade for £120 for a different car. Reluctantly swearing under my breath i accepted (i wish i had not on principal) but my family were waiting to go away for a short break and i was already a few hours behind. I would add there was also someone in the office being charged for going over the 95 mile limit per day and another being penalised for a tiny scuff on the plastic bumper so this is a company with 24/7 bad practise. Because i had my own insurance for the car they then took £2550 as the damage deposit. They specify 2550 as they know well that many credit cards have a 2500 limit but fortunately mine was more than this. They had already extracted an extra £120 by this point making the rental more expensive than other companies without this sort of treatment. They pointed me to a specific car outside that i am sure is ready for those who do not take insurance. it was a new car but had virtually no petrol in the car and showed 11 miles on the clock before i ran out of petrol. I said this is ridiculous to give a car that might run out of petrol around the corner as i was not entirely sure i believed the 11 miles was accurate. however i relented as these are seasoned car rental muggers. The person who showed me the car was actually the most helpful of them all who whispered to me to be very careful with the wheel trim as any minor scuff they treat as damage. I then noted in the car park that every car was fitted with very very low profile wheels with rims sticking out so there is maximum chance of you accidentally grazing a curb. i managed to run directly to a garage to fill up with petrol. On my return i came across a sea of upset of car renters. one had a tiny scratch on the front bumper, another had a tiny graze to the low profile wheels. Fortunately i had made extra care to not get the wheels scratched but please please please do not rent from this company. i have never seen so many upset and disgruntled people and while my rental was double what it should be i left relatively unscathed.

The staff didn't release the car as one of the (*) conditions written in smallest font did not get satisfied and they charged a full amount after asking the card for "verification" and telling us the car cant be released.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS When you book their cars, the prices look too good to be true. They are! When you return the car, they will ALWAYS find some small, virtually invisible scuffs (which they ignored on checkout) and charge you hundreds of pounds for them. Luckily, I had insurance which reimbursed me. Don't just take my word for it, there's a Guardian article on their dodgy practices (easily googled) and understand that these stories are just the tip of the iceberg. Spend a few extra pounds and go with a reputable car hire company

JAN 2018 I booked a car using their website for 3 days (Fri-Sat-Sun) and paid 96 pounds with full insurance. On the collection day at Birmingham Airport branch, there was a warning regarding weather so I sent them an email inquiring that if I collect the car on Sat, Is there a possibility of a refund for 1 day (Friday only). My query was forwarded to the rental agents and they said I will be notified via email or call. Tried calling few time but no answer. So I went to collect the car on Friday evening. Upon presenting the booking, I was told that my whole booking has been cancelled and processed for a refund as requested. I was baffled as I never asked for a refund I only inquire about the refund and refund was for 1 day only. I was never sent a notification or expected to be refunded. The advisor Katie and Store Manager Jordan assured me that the 96 pounds will be 100% refunded to my account within 14 days. I needed the car so I made a new booking this time for 2 days (Sat and Sun). I asked for similar price and similar car I paid for my first booking but with additional driver this time. They upgraded the car with no extra charge and quoted me 125 pounds with full insurance. I took the car, used and return with no issue. After 2 weeks I checked my statement, there was no refund for the 1st booking made. So I called customer service for a follow up. Customer service would take note and promise to get back to me but never. I emailed the customer service. After series of calls and emails, they told me that there is nothing to be refunded as the money from my 1st online booking (96 pounds) was used on my 2nd booking made in store. I was shocked as that was not as agreed by the Store Manager and the advisor. Customer service said that they cannot do anything what have been said in store. All they can see in their system is that the money from 1st booking was used in 2nd and as the 2nd booking was paid in store using chip and pin method, it automatically validates the sale and their terms and conditions. When I checked the rental agreement they did sneakly added the 1st booking voucher onto my 2nd booking and made me pay extra 125 pounds. So in total, I paid 221 pounds for 2 days. Unbelievable. Never using them again. Completely misguided and mislead by the Store Manager Jordan and the Advisor Katie.

Summary: After a 4 day rental in Iceland, Green Motion accused me of TWO paint chips and charged me ISK 225,361 (USD $2,252) to repaint FOUR car panels. Details: I rented a Fiat 500 with Green Motion through Holiday Autos for four days in February for a total rental cost of $102. I declined all insurance because my credit card provides a "loss damage waiver" on rentals so Green Motion required that I be charged a damage deposit of ISK 290,000 (~$2,900). I was a little taken aback by this request, but obliged anyhow. Before receiving the car I was given a "Check Out" form documenting any damages prior to me receiving the car. There was nothing unusual with this form as it included a scattering of dots all over the front and side of the car indicating small paint chips that you would expect on a car with over 35,000 km (~22,000 miles). Upon receiving the car I made sure to perform an inspection as they did just require a $2,900 damage deposit. As I was scanning for obvious dents and scratches I noticed what appeared to be 2 after-market paint protectors near the back wheel-well. Unfamiliar with what exactly this was I snapped 2 pictures of them. Other than that nothing appeared unusual. When I returned the car 4 days later I was asked to wait in the lobby as the woman checking me out went to perform a check-in vehicle inspection. After no more than about 1 minute she returned and claimed to have found 2 paint chips. My first thought was, "yeah, you document paint chips all over this car in the original check-out documentation," but apparently those random dots were suppose to be actual chip locations. I asked to see the chips that she was accusing me of and she actually couldn't find 1 that she had marked, but after an awkward few seconds of searching she found a different one to accuse me of. I reviewed the 2 pictures I had taken, but unfortunately they did not include the area of the car these chips happened to be. What I did notice though were dozens of chips completely undocumented in their original "check out" inspection. Needing to catch a plane, I didn't have much time to debate the issue. I was told they would hold my $2,900 damage deposit and refund me within a week after they send the car for an estimate on the damages. After about 8 days they got back to me with their damage estimate: ISK 225,316 ($2,252). The estimate required removing 4 panels, repainting them and re-installing them back on the car. The 4 panels included the front fender, the driver's side door, the back fender panel and the roof. This estimate was determined after sending about 10 pictures and a 1 sentence description of the damages to a company named, Bilarettingar GK. ehf. The exact description of the damages in their own words was: "STONE CHIP ABOVE FRONT WHEEL ON DRIVERS SIDE AND ANOTHER STONE CHIP BEHIND DRIVERS DOOR SEE PHOTOS I NEED CAPAS REPORT FOR THIS." I was told they don't actually perform these repairs until they take the car out of service so if the car already had dozens of chips on it by their own admission, how many people are they charging to repaint the same panels? Feeling taken advantage of I began reaching out to any agency I could to help with this matter. I first emailed Green Motion's Customer Service and the company I made this reservation through, Holiday Autos. Green Motion's Customer Service forwarded my complaint on the the Iceland branch which just sent me a dismissive response. Holiday Autos complained about being too small of a company to investigate damage claims. I then filed a complaint with the European Consumer Center (ECC), but was told I had to be a European National to receive their help and even then they had no power to make companies accept their claims. They referred me, however, to the Icelandic Bar Association for additional help. I wrote to the Icelandic Embassy in the US who referred me to The Consumer Association of Iceland. The Consumer Association of Iceland claimed, "Green Motion should not profit from these damages, they also have to proof that you did cause those damages. You have the right to get an invoice for the repairing cost, not just an evaluation of the damages and an estimated repair cost. Also the VAT should be deducted from the charges because Green Motion is able to deduct the VAT in the tax settlement in the end of the year." However, once again, because I was not European they could not represent my case. The Icelandic Embassy then referred me to a District Court Attorney in Reykjavik. I had a choice to make, I could either pay an attorney to continue to fight this company or I could just collect all the paperwork and file it with my credit card and get reimbursed. What Green Motion did is so wrong and they shouldn't be allowed to continue to do this to others. A couple weeks ago I finally received a full reimbursement from my credit card, but I promised Green Motion I would never let this go. I'll continue to share my experience often on the internet so others don't get taken advantage of the way I was.
