“I had a hearing test and received two NHS hearing aids after 10 days the back snapped off one, I went back to the Norwich St stephens store and was told I had to pay £68 to have them repaired, i refused and said they must have been faulty as they should not break after 10 days, all I got in return was shrugged shoulders. Disgusting, had I bought them I’d have consumer rights, now after i10 days I have no hearing aid. Should not be offering this NHS service”
“Sainsburys heaton park branch ended up walking out after telling them forget it .
I am deaf and wear hearing aids i explained 3 times that i could not understand what was being said about the eye test all she did was talk louder .
I fully explained that due to the hearing aids i hear everything from every one close by at the same time as just a jumble of speach i asked if there was a private room thats quieter she ignored me and spoke louder so i gave up got up and walked out .
For a place thats supposed to deal with hearing as well as sight . It was plain to see they are clueless.
Or this staff member in particular is”
“Atrocious. I called in yo the Streatham store about a problem with my right eye. I was triaged told I would be seen but they would call me within 2 hours to go back. That was yesterday and still waiting, have tried to call them numerous times today and kept holding on until you get a message saying number has been logged and will call back, have been waiting since 11am this morning still no callback .
Will not be using specsavers again I always thought it was common courtesy to call back even if they cannot see you”
“Phoned specsavers Gravesend to enquire if they carried spares as one of the arms on my glasses had snapped off, I was told that they did keep some and I should take my glasses in and they would look for me. (sounds good!) I drove the seven miles to Gravesend paid for parking and finally arrived at the shop. I mentioned my phone call to the receptionist who took my glasses to a manager. He barely looked at them, didn't ask my name or for my details and I was told that no we don't keep spares and I could buy a complete new frame at half price. The glasses were not that old and other than a damaged arm were in good condition so after being a customer of theirs for many years I said that in future I would ask for the prescription and buy cheap glasses on line. They just shrugged and moved on to the next customer ignoring me completely. The annoying thing for me was that they didn't at any time ask who I was or if the glasses could still be under guarantee. A total waste of time. probably go to Asda or Boots with my wife from now on.”
“Awful customer service
Warrington store
Unfriendly staff. Staff sitting around talking.
Felt rushed.
Manager and assistant manager blamed staff training.
Really a bad experience”
“Basingstoke store need to work on their customer care. All through the pandemic I kept seeing adverts on the TV about how they value their customer and prioritise frontline workers. Not true. They made everyone stand outside the shop obstructing the entrance to the shopping centre (not distanced). They would not adjust my new glasses, they were just rude. You've lost this customer.”
“I ordered prescription glasses and sunglasses (both with thinner lenses) for my daughter at the Ealing branch. When they were ready, the normal glasses were fine but the sunglasses lenses were noticeably thicker and stood out of the frame. We showed the sales lady and she agreed that they weren’t the thin lenses we had ordered. We would have been happy for them to be replaced. However, the manager (Mr) Ola joined and basically tried to bully us into believing that they were also made of the thinner material. The sunglasses frame was slightly larger and he said that that was the reason for them being much thicker. He was very aggressive and said that there was no way whatsoever that the lab might ever make a mistake. He continued to bully us for several minutes, however, I have been wearing glasses myself for 40 years and know a thin lens when I see it.
Eventually, Ola offered a refund and to prove us wrong, he said he would cut the sunglasses lenses to the same shape as the normal ones to prove that the material was of the same thickness. Well, he did, and they weren’t. When Ola realised that he had been wrong, there was no apology, instead, he couldn’t get us quickly enough out of the branch.
We were given a refund, but that is not the point. We now have a sunglasses frame without lenses and have to find a new optician.
Buying glasses and lenses is all about trust. When there is a problem with them or your eyesight, you need to be able to trust your optician. If there is a problem at Specsaver Ealing, customers get bullied into believing that they are in the wrong. We won’t go back there.”
“Went for a contract lens check on Saturday in Long Eaton and I felt the women treated me quite badly as I hadn't got any contact lenses to put on because I had run out a long time ago, which is why I made the appointment in the first place. They weren't prepared to help me at all so I ended up getting a copy of my eye prescription from the eye test that I had with them a few months ago and took it to Boots Opticians who were extremely helpful. It's a shame as I have used specsavers for the past 20 years and will not be returning after this unpleasant visit.”
“I had a test and went back 3 weeks later to say that something was not right. I was told there was nothing wrong. Not being happy with this outcome I arranged a visit to Boots. Briefly, Boots diagnosed a problem and have been referred to a consultant at hospital. Having complained to Specsavers they said there was nothing wrong with their test. I totally disagree.”
“Employees miserable and in a rush to sell you anything.
I walked out after SALESMAN style trying to sell me glasses and hearing aids, I didn't really need.”
“Took my 87 year old mother, and waited 10 minutes to be seen by someone, totally ignored by a number of staff milling around. The service was shocking, no customer service at all although they were happy to take her cash. Wish i had followed my instinct and got her out of there. We live and learn”
“Absolutely shocking customer service. I was treat like a commodity without any appology. I would not have any thing to do with this purely money making franchise. Stay well clear.”
“My 86 year old husband had what is advertised as a FREE hearing test, in Bournemouth. What a scam! He was charged £59 for the test. Apparently, this will be returned if he purchases the hearing aid recommended by the audiologist, otherwise we are £59 out of pocket, with nothing to show for it. So the free test is conditional? Nowhere is this mentioned in the advertising.
We don’t have a lot of money and this is a real hardship for us. To get an NHS test, you need a doctor’s referral, impossible in the present clime. After a great deal of soul searching, we decided that we could manage to afford the cheapest hearing aid to make life a bit better for an old man. This is not to be however, as the audiologist recommended a more expensive model as being the best suited to his needs. Hmm!
At best, Specsavers advertising is deceptive. At worst, it is downright false - scamming at its best.”
“Provided two pairs of glasses that were not fit for purpose. Went to a different opticians which tested my eyes then checked the Specsavers glasses to determine they were wrong for my eyes. I then bought glasses from this new optician - which are perfect.
While Specsavers were willing to take back my glasses within the 100 days to that store I was unable to return to Macclesfield and was denied taking them to the branch near me. As such, I've wasted over £500 on glasses I can't use and had to pay a further £250 for a pair I can use from a different opticians.
I strongly recommend to readers not to take advantage of the buy one pair and get one pair free because you may end up with 2 duff pairs. It's not really get one free anyway - by the time you've matched the features of the first set (like tint and anti-scratch).”
“Been going to Specsavers for years I can honestly say I’m not 100% convinced they have changed my prescription my new ones don’t seem any different to my old ones they say my eyes have slightly changed but I still can’t see the tv small print on the TV , - and the lady that gave me my new glasses was happy to let me leave with the arms on my new glasses bent so when you put them on a flat surface they didn’t sit flat one arm was off the table poor service really .”
“Four years ago I was told by Specsavers in Leominster that I had the start of cataracts in both eyes, at my recent check-up I was told they were not bad enough for a referral "Unless you go Private". during the eye test the person said there was "something going on" "May be Macular Degeneration, lets see how we go". Spooked by this I did go private, I had to.
After emailing customer services I was phoned by the branch, I asked if they followed NICE guidelines and was told they are not able to, under those guidelines with Cataracts in both eyes I should be referred, additionally the NICE guidelines require the question of "is it affecting your quality of life" to be asked if so again it should be referred. I work full time on a screen from home and am a full-time carer for my wife, it's important I am safe to drive & can see the screen. the questions were not asked, I did say about working on the screen but the conversation was hurried along before I could say about being a carer. I have gone to a private practitioner where they found I have Blepharitis, when speaking to Specsavers customer services I asked if they tested for this on eye tests, and once they had found out what it was dithered nervously, they do not it seems carry out this important test, so for many years I have had an undiagnosed Eye complaint that should have been treated a long time ago and had I not been loyal to Specsavers would likely have had relief from this a long time ago. I found all this a shock and would urge any new or existing customers to weigh up what they are getting for their money and whether your eye health is being best cared for.

If you look any reply Specsavers give on this site it always says to forward it to the local branch, so washing their hands of it, that is not what customer service these days is all about and reinforces my review content”
