I don't write negative posts as a rule, however this has to be said. We purchased a Smeg fridge freezer in 2019 at a cost of £1,500.00. When it was delivered the two front feet were missing and the bolts dug into, and gauged our brand new oak floor badly. We then noticed the G was missing from the Smeg on the fridge door and there was a large deep scratch in the same door. There was also what appeared to be dried blood on the inner door trays. Whoever had made this appliance was clearly having a bad day. The Smeg engineer came out with two feet and a replacement upper fridge door some weeks later. When I questioned the amount of faults in one appliance, he informed me that only 1 in 1500 appliances are quality control checked. We chose a Smeg fridge freezer because it looked stylish and wrongly assumed because of the cost, the quality would be good. New fridge door and feet fitted, we were happy, however a few months ago we noticed that the lower, original freezer door had turned yellow, whilst the upper, replacement fridge door was still white. A few of our friends said did you know your fridge and freezer doors don't match, we did. We contacted Smeg customer services on numerous occasions, to no avail, eventually I wrote to the CEO and received a reply from the customer service supervisor advising me that all emails go via her as if, how dare I go to the CEO. The correspndence has been going on for some time now, mainly because no one ever gets back to you and when they eventually do, the reply is unsatisfactory. We were informed that as the appliance was out of warranty, we could buy two more doors for £625.26 with 10% off, however there was a risk that these doors would not match in colour and there wold be no refund, or purchase another appliance under contribution/exchange for £916.30. Neither option seems fair, as firstly if they cannot garantee the new doors would match, why didn't they change both doors in the first place, so we had doors from the same batch that wouldn't age or discolour differently and secondly, were we to take the second option and buy another appliance, we would have paid £2,500.00 for a fridge freezer when ours is only a couple of years old and immaculate apart from one yellow and one white door. I can't influence what people do, but I can share my own experience and hopefully make people think before they buy a Smeg applaince.
