Currently waiting for RAC since 9am today my update says expect them between 14:00 and 16:00. However after reading these reviews I am worried if that will even happen or if I need to be towed that may also not happen if / when they do turn up. I could get a cab home which is 20 minutes away but concerned they may turn up earlier then I won’t be there … wish me luck ! Safe to say I will not be renewing with RAC

I've been a member of RAC for 20 years an only used a couple of times, recent breakdown on a motorway was a nightmare, the app is a nightmare, had to call them repeatedly, got left on private land, had to be toed off by a farmer an was 12 hrs in total wait, no access to toilets or food. I won't be renewing my membership!

I have been waiting over three hours. They tell me it will be at least another two hours before they can get to me, and that it might be longer than that. I am the biggest mug in the world for renewing with these lot. They are always ''exceptionally busy'' - try employing more mechanics.

Today our car broke down at 5.40pm 35 miles from home. I called the RAC. I’ve been a member for 32yrs and always paid the top price for the best service. Only called them out a handful of times in all those years. After waiting 4hrs tonight, several texts from RAC saying they were on their way but no one arrived. Then we got a text to call the control centre when we were told no one would be coming and could we wait until the morning!!! Unbelievable!! Are we expected to sleep in the car? No toilet facilities or anything to eat or drink? My husband has to take vital medication by 9pm , so we just had to get home. We had to abandon our vehicle and get an Uber home which cost us £73. We got home at 10.45pm The RAC will have to recover our vehicle tomorrow and get it back to us. I’m utterly disgusted with the lack of service that we pay a fortune for every month. We will be looking to change to another service provider.

My son has been waiting for nearly 5 hours I called the RAC to ask why my call was answered by a lady who quickly wanted there to be an issue with me I guess to allow her to hang up on my call she then said i’ll Put you on hold and left me there for 15 minutes, I have to say the RAC do not deserve 1 Star Terrible service and a don’t care attitude, on hold now for 28 minutes Disgraceful

I would not recommend RAC at ALL! I have been waiting 10hrs through the night with a disability. I’ve called 10 x all the staff saying the call out is being pushed back to 2-5hrs further. Promises of managers calling but have not. I have no water or food so a cab came and the cab man said it’s common for this duration of time. RAC have been unless, to be a woman on my own on the A3 for 10hrs min is horrific. I’m trying another breakdown company. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

The Rac where to start, absolutely disgusting service, constant lies, many different points of information which is all wrong. 20hrs and still waiting. They came out after 7hrs and said it needs to be recovered. Then this is where all the lies come in, blaming there driver who was no where near taking a car for another job before he even knew about me, he found out 30 mins before he arrived but I was told he would be there 6hrs before that constant changing the eta and drivers cancelling then waiting till I called to reque. Now I have been waiting yet again after recovery could only be take me 50 miles now I wait for another recovery vehicle to take me the final 48 miles. This was suppose to be 4pm latest I was told more than likely earlier. So waiters the 2hrs called back up as no sign and now there is another 1.5hrs on top looking at 5:30 now They have no staff, no organisation and literally no care for you as a customer or a person being stranded. The person before me that was recovered had been waiting 52hrs and had been staying in a hotel. Absolute disgusting so much for 1hr response and fix. Premiums go up 30% for a drastically failing service and with holding pay rises which are needed for the low paid staff Safe to say I will be cancelling without a thought

Spanish roadside for 9 Hours and still counting I am currently sitting on the side of the road in Spain broken down and have been here for nine hours already. RAC refuses to help me as they say it's the responsibility of their European partners to cover Europe and so far i have made 13 calls to opteven ( said European partner) and still haven't been recovered. I would not recommend anyone getting European cover from RAC as I have found the whole experience extremely tiring as a recovering renal cancer patient and frustrating. I took out the premier cover with Saga RAC breakdown for the express reason of taking the stress away from a breakdown and have been completely let down. I was told however that it's beautiful scenery in Spain by the French call handler but it's hard to enjoy baking in the sun covered in a layer of dust from a nearby building site. If you want minimum hassle then shop elsewhere. Date of experience: July 28, 2023

Omg, where do I start. The RAC tell outright lies to their customers. The steering went yesterday on my car a guy came after 3 hours and said the car needed recovering. He said it was booked for 10am today as they were busy. I agreed to this as it was Sunday and the garage was closed anyhow. I had someone go to my car to meet the recovery man for 10am but nobody turned up. I rang and they said it was booked for 10.45, still nobody came I rang again and they said the recovery truck that was allocated was 30-40 mins away, still nobody turned up. My car was then abandoned by the friend who had things to do and left my key in sun visor. I rang again and they said that it was allocated for 3pm but again nobody turned up so I rang again and it was escalated to a manager who would call me back within the hour but they didn't. I rang again and was told it would be escalated again but I said I didn't believe the lies I kept being told. I was then given another time of 40 minutes which was reflected on the app. I really thought they might come this time but this was cancelled within 5 minutes. I tried to ring again but the office was closed. I checked on the app but there was no update and no way to chat or get in touch other than by reporting a new break down. I had to get my daughter to give me a lift as I was now unsure whether my car had been recovered, it hadn't and this was a 1 hour round trip to check. I was resigned to having to wait until the office was reopen tomorrow. Then at 11.45pm I got a call saying the recovery truck was 2 minutes away and that I had to be there to escort it to the garage. Another drive across and return home by 12.45am 3 weeks ago I was towing my caravan as a single woman with 2 daughters and the dog and black smoke was coming out of the car that smelt like burning and the oil light came on. Rather than risk going on the motorway I drove back to the garage that I had just passed and rang the RAC who advised not to drive it. I was given a 2 hour window. When that was up I refreshed the app hoping it would sat someone was close but it added another 3 hours. We waited again but that then won't up to 10pm. We ended up waiting 9hours and nobody came. I had no choice but to add oil and risk the drive home as it was now past 10pm. Let down severely twice now and won't be renewing

On 3 callous each one we had to wait 3-4 hours, even when there was smoke from the engine. Very poor service overall, won't be renewing.

RAC Service Plan, disappointed. I usually rate RAC very highly, but the Service Plan let me down. I took out the plan and booked my MOT and full service on the app. Then arrived to find out the garage no longer deals with RAC. Then to add insult to injury I asked to cancel and obtain a full refund for my payments to date. Was told yes no problem but we will deduct £25 fee. Wow. Let's hope they do cancel as they have been drawing down on my card every month.

Unacceptably Awful. Which kind of culture is this??, not being punctual is the norm?! My partner had an accident and needs to be rescued by RAC; tow our damaged van and bring him back home ( luckily nobody is injured including him). He was told that the rescue would arrive in 2hours time which is already taking too long for being rescued in London, he is not in the remote mountain! But it’s been nearly 4hours waiting and nobody is here! He had already very stressful experience and then on top of that this long ridiculous wait??My partner has contacted RAC few times and they said to him that they can’t reach to the driver who is supported to rescue him because the driver doesn’t pick up the phone!! Then my partner got the call from the driver himself saying that he was just informed to come to rescue him 40mins ago, which was the time the driver supposed to be rescuing him!! I don’t know who is telling the truth, the RAC? Or the driver?? It doesn’t matter who is lying but the service from RAC is more than appalling. We are paying customer. If you don’t look after your customers, they just leave but your business ethic is damaging your company. It’s been over 4hours wait but nobody is with him. DO NOT USE RAC.

Very poor service for any breakdowns. We have been broken down for 2days and they still haven’t dropped our vehicle to a garage. Absolutely disgusting. And if you want any updates they keep on lying and delaying the times every time you call. Absolutely the worse service in the UK, avoid at all costs.

Reported my car broken down on the way to work, 30 mins from my work and another 30 mins away from the next city. I am told Rac will be with me in 4 hours. I keep calling but they tell me a driver hasn’t even picked the job up. It’s the next day and no one has picked my car up yet. I am stranded, luckily a nice farmer passed and tried to help. Absolutely no point in having rac cover when they can’t do what they promise.

Broke down on A11 near Norwich at 2:15 pm Friday 07/07/2023. Patrol man came in 45 minutes and couldn't repair said recovery needed. Despite several promises over night finally arrived 1:45 pm Saturday. Taken 24 miles to service station. Told them we are both over 70 and I am type 2 diabetic and run out of medication. 2 more relays and endup in truck stop 9.30pm. Several promises over night and eventually picked up 10.30 sunday morning. Arrived home lunchtime. 44 to get 150 miles. It was suggested we could be taxied home and leave the car and caravan for collection some time in the future at our own risk and no guarantee when they would be collected or if they would still be there. RAC nill stars.

Do not even waste your money on this joke of a company Had a year warranty included when i brought my used car. Had 3 faults within that time , only one of them was partly covered. Even the seat belt stalk was not covered under warranty even tho its a standard safety aspect. Never again , take my advice and use a decent company

If I could give no stars I would. As a recovery service I have had no problems. However I recently paid for them to fix the springs in my car. The service was awful. The mechanic moaned the whole time that he was so busy and that he was managing six others and was on his phone the whole time. He left and my car was making a weird popping sound. New RAC man comes out tells me it’s my top mount that the first guy ‘thought he fixed’ but not invoice so I’d have to pay for it. Off to my garage who inform me the spring they fixed was fitted the wrong way round hence the noise. Do not use them do not part with your money. I have made a formal complaint they say they will respond within TWENTY working days they currently HAVENT!
