My brother in law is an RAC member and has received a Direct Debit renewal notice. Trouble is, he's been diagnosed with dementia and will never drive again. They've been told this and we can provide diagnosis proof but they refuse to stop the DD because we don't yet have legal guardianship over his affairs, which will take months. So they'll be raking in £275 for nothing. RAC - you should hang your heads in shame.

I had a terrible experience with RAC. We booked a camping site a year in advance and paid a deposit. Unfortunately, closer to the date, we realized that we couldn't go because my daughter had to undergo surgery on the same date. We didn't know about the surgery when we booked the holiday site. Although there were still a few months until the date, RAC refused to refund the deposit, stating that it could only be returned in the case of a life-threatening situation that prevented travel. My daughter's surgery was very important; if we didn't do it, she would lose three permanent teeth soon, and she is only seven years old. I strongly advise against using RAC for anyone. We have been with them for years, including home insurance, car insurance, and roadside assistance, but I am now considering switching to other providers. Please be careful when paying deposits to them!

Broke down in penzance on tuesday 14th febuary 2023 and had to call the rac it was 1pm, it took three hours for them to reach us about 4pm, and the rac man decided we needed to be recovered home which was 65 miles away, we then waited untill 12.45am wednesday 15th for the truck to turn up to take us home, we could not run the engine to keep us warm. we got home at 3.30am. have sent a e mail to the rac waiting for a reply regarding this.

Been a customer for several years. Never claimed ever. When I sold the car they wouldn’t refund unused months, instead wanted to claim £55 cancellation fee. I’m disgusted.

Was in an accident 3.5 months ago where I was hit by a kangaroo on a highway whilst going 110km an hour. There was just over $28,000 worth of damages to my car which RAC had insured for $38,000 (which is far FAR more than the actual worth of the vehicle). They had increased the value of the insurance without advising us as well. Originally we had it insured at $32,000. But they then increased that to $38,000 in the middle of that covid period where 4WD were highly sought after in WA and were being sold for extortionate prices. I was then told because it was less that 86% of the cost of the vehicle to fix that it wasn’t going to be a write off and it would be repaired. I live rurally. Now left without a car and two young children when I asked how I was expected to get my kids to school and daycare and what not I was told on the phone by the operator to “catch public transport”. It’s been almost 4 months and I have had to fight constantly with RAC to get any level of assistance or information every single step of the goddamn way. They have been zero help. The only people that have managed to do anything for us have been people external to RAC. Never ever ever again will I insure with these guys. They’re an absolute rip off and complete joke. Furious doesn’t even begin to cover it. Not only have I had to deal with shock and trauma from the accident itself but having to then battle with RAC to even be considered or treated with any level of respect is just another unwarranted unnecessary stress. Do NOT insure with them. It’s not worth the trauma they cause.

HI All i have been a member of RAC for 40 years the service has always been great and polite and claims were assessed on good basis, however recent events made us put in a claim and following the manner in which we were presented with from RAC was appalling. The claim became an interrogation they short paid us for the amount of value for the items, the interpretation from a third party was incorrect and when questioned then came the interrogation, two excess fees were paid RAC took the second by mistake not assessing that it had already been paid onsite to the builder which RAC requests, now to recover RAC wants us to follow up and get money back from the builder?? really bad service if you call it that, client to RAC but who does all the running around and RAC seem to have no issues when taking out the fees or increasing them . shop around that is now what I am doing as they all cant be this bad, surely

3 times RAC has let me down. Two occasions I broke down on the motorway and took over 4 hours to get to me. Today I broke down, called half 10 in the morning and gave an eta of 1.30pm, I had to collect my child from school and said they would do the best they can. I received a phone call 19.44pm to say they were on the way to me. I have no words no more for the RAC

9January I had a breakdown on my car in… 9January I had a breakdown on my car in Lichfield..I didn’t had a recovery in my insurance so I try to become a member of RAC .. I ring them and on the same day I become a member ..I said my car had a problem on the gear box I need to bring the car from Lichfield to Coventry they said on the phone no problem just pay £165 and RAC will sorted..Ok no problem and I payed the £165 and then when the patrol guy turn up he said that I had to pay the extra miles lol will cost me £280 just to bring the car from Lichfield to Coventry..I said no I ring again to RAC and I said to cancel the membership straight away and to give me back my £165 and the guy on the phone agreed with me and he said after 5 working days the money will be on my account..I payed £120 to a private garage to bring the car and myself at home ..Today it’s 27/01/2023 and I still waiting for my refund ..I ring them a few times and on the phone everytime I ask for my refund they start being rude and annoying with me on the phone saying that I have to wait 20 working days for the investigation ..Investigation of what?? I payed £165 for a service that i didn’t use ..Why all this time to give me back mine money .Just listen the phone call recorded and listen the guy saying that I will be refund ...I feel I had been scammed.RAC they had been horrible to me ..It’s a shame …Nobody cares about me..I don’t recommend to anyone this company, all they want it’s money nothing else ..

My car was covered by the RAC under a Barclays Travel Plus plan. The X5 broke down with an major oil loss on 21st November on a live dual carriageway with no hard shoulder. First of all the RAC didn't answer the phone , wanting me to report it on line. Without my glasses , which I don't need to drive , I couldn't do this on my phone. They wouldn't attend without the police there so I contacted South Yorkshire police who moved it to a side street. Now in a 'safe place' the RAC subcontracted the recovery to Richford Motor Services (rated 1.5 on Yell) , who then took nearly 24 hrs to recover it to their compound. After multiple calls (always from me , never pro actively from them) and frustrations , the RAC took the job off them and on day 9 after the breakdown did it themselves , by which time the engine had seized and the car written off by the BMW garage. Everyone at the RAC was very friendly on the phone , but totally ineffectual , and 'concluded the matter' with a standard template letter , and an absolute refusal to discuss anything related to a service level agreement with either their subcontractors or me as a customer.
