I reported the fault at 4.45pm and was initially told someone would be with me by 7pm. The patrol eventually arrived at 2.34am. The patrol was brilliant - polite, thorough and patient - I can't fault him. The customer service leading up to his arrival however, was abysmal. I waited for almost 9 hours at a motorway service station. I was fobbed off with assurances that my call had been escalated and then prioritised. I was told I would get call backs within 30 minutes and I didn't. I received automated text messages with the anticipated attendance time moving further and further away. After 8 hours I was told that because 'I was getting anxious', a taxi could be arranged to take me home with a patrol attending my car at the service station the next day. I refused this option as I had no confidence that anyone would actually attend the next day - which is when a patrol was finally dispatched (although I had to wait a further hour for them to arrive). All in all it was an extremely stressful situation. There didn't seem to be any sense that the long wait was anything out of the ordinary or unreasonable. I thought that lone females were given priority but this clearly isn't the case. I certainly won't be recommending RAC to anyone any time soon.

Really awful service they seem to have really big problems with the systems they use and number of staff they have in the field. Computer generated Text messages are dished out every hour with fake promises to placate us customers and then escalated to a team that does not seem to exist. I used them as it was part of the Tesco Insurance package. I had used AUTOAID before then....and that's who I will use in the future Vote with your feet go somewhere else to get better service nothing can be worse then the RAC surely

Today I phoned RAC to cancel my breakdown cover. I'd meant to cancel it a month ago but forgot and discovered that it had been renewed and the money taken from my Bank account ! However, a gentleman called Shahan dealt with my call and all is now sorted. He was super helpful, polite, friendly and very patient. It took an hour to bring my payment down to something that I could afford - and still have the cover I needed. Shahan was determined to help me stay with the RAC without being pushy. May all the staff who answer RAC calls be as good as Shahan - couldn't fault him. Teresa Domene Membership number:- 7765812511

If I could leave no stars I would, for the first time in four years of cover with the rac I needed their services and support, everything was great until the most abnoxius ignorant person I have ever met turned up . Truly a real plonker. His name is Paul fielding his number is 1514. If he turns up ask for someone else.

Worst company in breakdown companies in the history of breakdown companies by a country mile STAY CLEAR.Left a disabled person over 22hrs broken down at Gretna services with a broken fan belt YES 22HRS. The RAC constantly lied about coming out hour after hour constantly lied about the recovery being now at the highest level but still DID NOT TURN UP. This company is despicable and downright dangerous to be involved with. NOW JOINED THE AA If I can help one person NOT buy into there lies and NOT buy a policy then that helps a little. When eventually service did turn up fixed problem within half an hour so a shout out goes to him.If any newspaper or radio station wishes to pick up my story they can contact me through trust pilot I'M DONE WITH THEM

My car broke down just as I arrived at work on Thursday 29 June. I telephoned the RAC immediately, the patrol vehicle arrived 20 minutes later. The patrol mechanic, Chris, quickly diagnosed the problem, (broken gear shift cable) within a few minutes. He sourced a part within the next few minutes and organised delivery to us. The part arrived about 40 mins later. Fitting the part proved to be very difficult an awkward and Chris worked really hard to fix the problem. He was good natured throughout and worked tirelessly on the repair, he really worked hard and finished the repair to a very high standard. I can only thank Chris and highly commend him for his attitude and skill he demonstrated. The cost of the parts were reasonable and fair Well done by all those involved and ten out of ten for service

Do not join th RAC. Twenty five phone calls made over one hour ,each one saying "line busy ". The Web site showed ," car not taxed ,therefore membership invalid ". My car is exempt from road tax due to it's age but the Web site didn't allow for this. I used a local recovery which arrived within the hour. The RAC is not fit for purpose

I can’t even start to explain how much went wrong and in so many ways. Over 24 hours to get home. Don’t bother reading any more reviews just click on another service provider (anyone but the RAC).

My daughter Broke down at 14:30 in Nottingham (returning from Uni with a car full of her possessions) and contacted RAC via App, Patrol man turns up 2.5 hours later to tell her he can't fix it and Recovery will be in touch within half an hour. More than 2 hours later after several calls she finally gets a call from the recovery team. At 20:50 after more calls Recovery truck turns up and loads her car. At 22:18 Recovery truck leaves my daughter and her car at services in Leicester!!! YES, YOU READ THAT BIT RIGHT THEY LEFT A YOUNG WOMAN ON HER OWN AT A MOTORWAY SERVICES LATE AT NIGHT WITH NO WAY OF GETTING HOME. No new recovery truck turns up after several calls and empty promises from RAC. RAC then advise her to leave the car as they will send an UBER. Daughter eventually arrives home without the car at 1:30 am. Saturday 24, we contact RAC to find out when the car will be recovered to the garage, they tell us today. The Car gets picked up but is then left in Northampton. After my daughter has been left around 30 texts by RAC and several calls and broken promises later the car finally gets picked up. Tuesday 28, the car is finally dropped off at the garage. I pay for family recovery to avoid this kind of circus, there is NO complaint phone number. I have submitted a complaint to RAC via email, and they have responded telling me they will review my complaint and get back to me within 8 weeks - gee thanks guys. I had a disappointing experience with the RAC customer service representatives that I spoke to. At their best, they were unhelpful, and at their worst, they were dismissive. It was evident that they were following a script and lacked a proper understanding of the situation. Avoid this company.

The worst recovery service in the world. Told at 7.30 pm I am high priority because stranded on hard shoulder. Two hours later RAC passed my recovery to a subcontractor who had to come from halfway accords the country. Two hours later he arrived but did not have the spanner to fit the wheel nut. Half an hour later told another hour and a half until the proper RAC person will arrive. Then they tell me another subcontractor will be sent. Still here after five hours on hard shoulder of A1M.

I have had an incredible experience with RAC home insurance. I was hoping I’d never have to make a claim but when I did they made it so easy and stress free. I had slight water damage to my kitchen and they quickly organised repairs no questions asked. All the contracted tradesmen were extremely professional and efficient. Thank you RAC.

i Broke down on a motorcycle. After 6 hours of being updated and almost certainly lied to about why I was being delayed I eventually was rescued by a fellow biker who drove home and got a bike trailer. I spoke to the Rac next day who said an Rac man turned up at 3.30 am. This not a breakdown service this is damn right dangerous and unsafe. Rac needs to close down. No point being cheap if you have no staff. I’m out.

I am writing as I wish to commend the hugely kind and efficient recovery help of Mr Paul Heath 3134 at RAC, following an upsetting incident in which a bus collided with my car and drove away in view of passers by and captured on CCTV. I had spent over three hours awaiting another company’s assistance the previous night only to find they had called the wrong vehicle for the job, and had an unhelpful and unsympathetic call with my insurance company the following morning that left me feeling all the more shaken. Paul was something of a hero following this - he arrived on time and saw that I was visibly shaking, gave me the time I needed to accurately report the situation, assessed and documented the damage comprehensively before taking great lengths to relay this detail to my insurance company, and importantly described to them the severity of the collision. Paul even went above and beyond to check with two passing bus drivers where their depot was for the insurance company to investigate, helped pick up pieces of the bus paint/casing from the ground to collect as evidence, and reminded me to notify the Police. He took such care and sensitivity to deliver the probable bad news and I can't express how much of a positive difference his patience and clear communication made at a time of sadness and worry. I owned my car and looked after it with so much love and brilliant memories over 14 years, so I appreciated Paul's outstanding communication even more, his respect for my poor car ensuring I had all of its contents, and practical care following a hit and run incident like this. Thank you for your amazing help again, it definitely deserves recognition within the RAC!

Very slow response and a three hour wait even though it was classified as a medical emergency response. Would not recommend them as a break down service. I phoned in that I was unable to start my car at approx 1525. I tried to do it on the App but it said phone in - I did straight away and spoke to an operative. He confirmed my details, took my £40 excess and I also explained that I had had to pop out to deliver a letter which was the reason for the car trip, and my 23 year old daughter was home alone. She is disabled and autistic, but was asleep and although can live independently, shouldn't be left for more than an hour on her own because of her condition. He said that was noted and would add to the call out notes. I received the first text from you at 1539 to say the response would be at 1757, 2 hours later. I called back in and spoke to another operative. I again explained the above and was told it would be set as a medical emergency call out. I was thankful for that. I also explained I only needed a jump start as my car had been idle for two weeks as we had been away, nothing else needed. I received 4 further texts to say you were busy. At 1806 I received a text to say they were working on getting someone to me. The RAC man arrived at approx 1820. He parked, took out his battery jump start unit, connected it, and I started the car straight away. Less than 2 minutes.

Absolutely atrocious . Zero rated. My 18 year old daughter broke down in a country lane and waited five hours until 2.30 am and still no show. Told she was a priority and strung along to believe it was the external 30 minutes. When she had had enough of waiting in the dark the advice was to leave the keys on top of the wheel - which I imagine every thief would know. What sound advice - of course they can’t except liability though. Still waiting to hear at 8. 0 the next morning if anybody is going to bother coming out. Absolutely shocking as per the rest of the reviews.
