Horrendous service is an understatement. The drivers have no clue what they are doing and we have had to call technicians out multiple times with all of them having different conclusions and none of them being correct. The people on the phone service are incredibly rude and unhelpful. On one instance I called regarding a breakdown the day after a RAC technician worked on our car, I was handed to 4 different colleagues within 10 minutes with no explanation and no handover between them. Please do not go for cover with RAC.

First time I’d use them and was a lone women by myself and waited nearly 5 hours. In the end they called a local guy who came straight away and sorted it. The girls on the phone were nice enough but just kept saying sorry but we’re busy. I’ll be talking to my bank who I have it through and advising they need to review why they use RAC.

I bought a driving kit from them, it is not as advertised, and they didn't want to send the kit advertised on the website and acted like I have done something wrong, start reading my terms and conditions. I will resolve the issue with legal authorities once I got back from my trip. Stay away from this company, is the only advice I can give. They refuse to pay for the return of the item, although it is not matching with what is advertised on their website and has broken parts. Customer service experience was also terrible.

Have paid to have RAC cover for piece of mind. However, when we came to use them for the first time it was a shambles. Their 'system' was playing up and couldn't find us despite the app having all the correct details showing. Also the online reporting didn't work and directed us to call. We are still awaiting recovery to a garage 36hrs later and getting nothing but excuses and the 3rd party company they've directed to recover my vehicle keep saying they have higher priority calls so have now have missed 2 collection windows. It is a shambles for a supposedly reputable company and I will be cancelling my policy ASAP as they do not give piece of mind or effective breakdown and recovery! Definitely avoid!

What a let down first time in years I needed help and to my amazement found RAC systems doesn’t work used the app then tried to follow up with a phone call unable to speak to anyone after 4 Hour gave up and cancelled the call out on the app and made alternative arrangements. My top end cover amounted to nothing and judging by others it looks like they will make it difficult for me to cancel at renewal date. Shameful behaviour from what was once a reputable company that can no longer be relied on .Don’t waste your money.

Awful. Automatic sign-up to renewal with NO way to cancel online. Apparently the only option is you have to phone them to cancel something you are automatically signed up to renew. Try calling the RAC and having the time and patience to wait over 45 minutes for them to answer the call without hanging up. Then you are left with no option to cancel your policy. Absolutely disgusting in this day and age. How is that geared around Treating Customers Fairly. RAC for the motorist? RAC for filling their bank account and making it exceptionally difficult to cancel a policy. Then there's the fun of raising a complaint and having to dance around with them endlessly. Final option now to raise a formal complaint with the FCA regarding their appalling tactics.

Great website. RAC membership makes you feel that you are in safe hands should something go wrong and that you are valued as a member.

Had blow out at 8pm on dual carriageway. Went straight on app and tried calling RAC several times. Had to organise and pay £177 for recovery. RAC called me at 9am following day to say they were on their way! Do not waste your time or money on RAC..absolutely rubbish!!!

On our way home from a trip on the NC500 we broke down 200 miles from home. Our hose on our van had split causing all of the water to escape. We realised that this could be serious, but Mark from the RAC covering Ayr and Newton Stewart came to our rescue, he was professional, patient, and friendly, he replaced the hose that was worn, and got us back on the road, when we had travelled a few miles we stopped to top up the water as it makes its way around the system, Mark saw us and pulled in to ask if we were okay, he went above and beyond to help us, big thank you to Mark, we appreciated his help.

Broke down this evening and logged my breakdown with the RAC at just gone 8pm. 30 mins later i had a text saying i would be updated in 30mins. This was followed by several texts of the same ilk, by 10.30 i rang and to my suprise got through after ten mins to be told to expect recovery in 45mins. This passed by and after several calls waiting 20 mins a time i decided it was time to get a taxi home at 1am. Abandoning my lively hood at the roadside. Just had a call at 2.30am waking me up saying he'd had a job booked in. What sort of twats do they take us for. Shocking service.

I have given one star because couldn’t give lower . Been a member for nearly 30 years and only one call out I needed then today . After telling me they couldn’t find my membership and pitting phone down on me , I had to re ring and finally got through to someone who found it . He arranged for a patrol car ASAP , I was a woman on own with a double blow out ! Patrol man rang but had been sent to wrong area by them , 3 hours away !!! He rang and messaged the them and told me someone would come ASAP . Two hours later and loads of phone calls no one messaged me or rang or came . They left me stranded. I am leaving them. It’s disgraceful.

We are a business customer with RAC, we have been with them for two years. The service is terrible ,the average response time to answer the phone is more than 30 minutes and once someone answers the phone, they transfer you to another department! 9/10 times they send Richford Motors and they never turn up after 6-8 hours and they tell the RAC that someone will be there in 90 minutes. In addition, they deceive the customer and the RAC by saying that the driver is stuck in traffic e.t.c. We keep trying to speak to the RAC’s supervisors and managers but the RAC said they will call you back but I’ve never received a call back ever. I’m glad that our contract is finishing in 6 months time, I would never recommend signing it without checking their services. But you cannot check the services without joining the RAC as far as I know. But if you can please join the AA as their service is Top-Class.

I am a disabled driver and I recently visited my friend in West Yorkshire in my Motability car. While there the car developed a strong fuel smell inside the car while driving. I called the RAC and arranged for a patrol to look at the car. Despite numerous calls to explain that the car was in a car park where it would be locked in at 6pm, we were still waiting three and a half hours later in the hot sun while sitting on a stone wall. (The Motability website claim a time of around 45 minutes for the RAC attending). On one of my calls to the RAC, I was asked if we could push the car out of the car park, now, considering this is Motability RAC for assisting disabled drivers, I was astounded at the suggestion. I have a serious physical disability and my friend has a heart condition, hip replacement and has diabetes), so a thoughtless and stupid suggestion by them really. 6pm came and went, no sign of the RAC, no contact, so they arranged for a pre-paid taxi to my home address, 80 miles away. The very next day I was woken up at home at 7am (ish) by a phone call from an RAC patrol, they said that they were 30 minutes away from my car. I explained the situation that I was 80 miles away at home and I had to book another RAC taxi to get back to my car. Another RAC pre-paid taxi was booked and I was delivered the 80 miles back to my car. Fortunately, I only had to wait 30 minutes this time for the RAC patrol. The RAC technician confirmed the strong petrol smell, however couldn't find any external fuel leaks, so the car was recovered to Lancaster Honda for investigation. I then ordered another taxi to take me home from Lancaster Honda. The experience was highly frustrating with regards to the service. Communication was very poor, I received little in the way of updates during the long wait on the first day. I contacted RAC complaints by phone, however, I felt I was being paid lip service hence my review.

Our motorbike broke down. Called at 13:30 hrs, advised 3 hour wait and promised regular text updates. Long story short. No updates, my husband called them 8 times. 1st third party recovery vehicle didn’t turn up, 2nd was cancelled by RAC!! We had to abandon our motorbike on an industrial estate lockup and get a taxi the 22 miles to our home (after yet another call to RAC demanding they pay for and book said taxi). We eventually arrived home at 21:00 hrs. Cold and wet (a storm brewed as we waited) hungry, we hadn’t eaten all day, being no where near to any cafes, pubs or restaurants! Truly shocking. The ‘Royal’ should definitely be removed from the RAC and we will be cancelling our membership and changing to AA or Greenflag in future.

Before i start if i could give them a 0 star rating i would.... I broke down a couple of days ago on a bridge/dual carriageway/ and in a live lane. I tried calling the rac but all i got was their very busy and to try again later or if it's an emergency go online.. After trying loads of times online every time i was getting can't proceed due to technical issues. Ended up sorting everything out myself and paying for a recovery truck to get my car off the bridge. Contacted the rac via complaints department their not interested in solving this issue but just trying to fob me off with (OH WE'RE UDER PRESSURE DUE TO COVID) nonsense. Not going to get anywhere with them so i am letting this term run until it ends and definitely won't be renewing.

My husband broke down today 28/07/21 at 4pm, had to request breakdown on line as not taking any calls for breakdown, all they keep doing is texting every 30 mins saying they are busy, no eta like they used to, he finally gets a call a 7pm and said he has to wait for a another call with eta on tow truck, at 8.45pm still had no call, called 0333 and he eventually got through to someone saying no one will get there till at least 11pm he said no one from RAC is keeping him informed they said they’ve passed it on to someone else, at this rate it’ll be early hours of tomorrow if he’s lucky, we’ve been with RAC for 18 years and have hardly used them in all this time and not at all in the last 3/4 years, time to change breakdown company I think. Tow truck has just arrived after 6.5 hours
