My wife and I are both pensioners and hit a concealed pothole in January 2023. We were in the middle of nowhere, RAC took 5 hours to respond and then only offered to call a mobile tyre fitter who wanted to charge £240 to fit a £60 tyre! No offer to tow us home, even though we were 8 miles from home. They just didn't care. Stranded with a hole in the tyre and an even bigger hole in the pocket! Please think twice before joining the RAC, from my experience the AA is a much better bet.

Their recovery 'service' is appalling! You pay extra to be expected to be recovered withing 60-90mins then spend the most of the day waiting for it to happen. After regular text updates giving me 'estimated' times which got later and later of which didnt help me as I had to get the car moved due to it causing an obstruction. Numerous calls their customer service advisors who do nothing but fob you off telling you that they will escalate the request and not giving any kind of guaranteed recovery time, I ended up spending £130 with a local firm to get my car recovered within 30mins of calling them. RAC have since refused to refund any third party costs as its written in their t&c's not to do so. They are blatantly ripping people off by not providing what they are advertising and are getting away with it as they are not regulated by anyone.

Same as all other reviews, arrogant, treating customers with total contempt after taking your money. I have already contacted the advertising standards authority, all readers please do the same. They advertise 60 minute response time, dont let RAC get away with so bad customer service. The more complaints the regulator gets they will be forced to change. Dont just do nothing, complaint in any agency you can. Anyone thinking about buying breakdown recovery with RAC, dont! 9 hours waiting time for me! A lot more reputable operators out there!

Having been a customer for many years I am upset to report that this the 3rd time we have unfortunately had to call the RAC, first time 2 range rovers caused a bow wave in a flood as we were driving slowly in very bad weather but it did knock out out electrics, to be fair the RAC came fairly quick but said it was intentional flood damage so wouldn’t take us home and left us stranded in Gloucester Christmas Eve Eve, next one was run flat with a puncture could not help us either, tonight the pinnacle my husband 6 hours in and still waiting for a breakdown truck as the electrics have gone on the vehicle, our cars are well maintained and fairly new, we have dealt with the 25% increase in the fees, I have been on hold for 25 minutes tonight trying to get an answer as for the past 2 hours you have been 45 minutes away, he is still waiting, maybe you should value your long standing customers just because he manages to limp into a services does not mean he is not a priority!

Worst company ever. I used them twice. First time I waited 12 hours and kept changing the arrival time constantly and this time I been waiting 10 hours and nothing they tell you is reliable. Their customer service people are so rude and hang up on my twice and when they come if they can’t fix it they just leave and do nothing to help even after leaving you waiting more than 10 hours. Worst company

When I bought the policy I was told that I would be entitled to one free engine diagnostic check per annum. E My engine light came on but when I called they were not interested as they said that the car was still drivable.

As an ex business custer I am being sued by the RAC for non payment of breakdown cover. I actually cancelled the cover via their business website and called to cancel the last vehicle on the policy as I no longer had the vehicles. They have issued me with legal documents stating they can't see that I cancelled using the portal. I am blocked from the portal so cannot access my information. This is corporate bullying og the highest degree and is dispicable. I would also like to warn potential customer of the wait times if you break down. Some of my drivers waited by the roadside for more than 12 hours. The worst breakdown company I have ever had the misfortune to be involved with.

Constantly lied on day of breakdown. Take your money no problem but when requiring agreed compensation, still waiting for that. Took 8 hours to be rescued. Continue to lie now. Only thing RAC are good at is taking your money at the drop of a hat and stringing you along. AA far better service and efficiency and no b******t.

I would really like to thank the call handler who took my call last night.I have RAC breakdown cover as part of my insurance policy.I have never had to use it before but last night has been the exception.I was a bit anxious and initially couldn't identify by name the road my car was on but the handler was patient and understanding while he searched the map.He informed me of expected delays to my car being collected and unfortunately for him he may have heard how bad the rest of my week had been (sorry 🙂 ) but at all stages he was kind and patient. The actual company who collected my vehicle contacted me quicker than expected. They arrived at the approximate time they had estimated. They also did any amazing job.I can't thank you all enough.Great service.

Constant lies...I had the offer of a lift home but rac said they would be with me in 30 mins ...so I stayed in my car in the cold ... this was 11 30pm at 5 30 am eventually someone showed up ... I was told everytime I asked it would arrive within 30 mins and when I questioned that I was told.. oh that's just an automated message ignore that...why on earth send it then?? Going back to the AA for sure

Most pathetic service! had text 9.45am, stating 50 minutes arrival time, waited hours, then they call me and say, they can get to me tomorrow! I replied, you get to me by 6pm of there shall be war! they always say they are experiencing high level calls! previous call outs did not arrive for 12 hours, whilst I was stuck in a car freezing overnight! DO NOT USE RAC!!!!!!!

Avoid the RAC at all costs one of their so called partners recovered my car and damaged the steering column during recovery, after several emails asking for an update on what's happening they just never respond, eventually had one guy ring me seemed really helpful but now even he has disappeared no contact numbers to call anyone, worst customer service I have come across absolutely shocking now looking into taking them to the small claims court.

Disgraceful service and communication! Multiple lies told. Our call was logged at 2:20 today, my partner has broken down at the side of the motorway. It’s now 8pm and he’s now SAT in the vehicle, as no collection has been arranged for over 5 hours. We’ve been repeatedly lied to, internal errors apparently and data protection has also been violated. Have a winning spirit– We work hard and are self-motivated to exceed expectations. Act with a servant's heart– We have a passion for making good things happen for all. - this is their apparent mission statement. Appalled to being treated like this and sat here typing knowing the dangers of sitting in a vehicle on the side of a motorway. Shameful service and will obviously be escalated through the appropriate channels in the morning!

After confirming a fault on my car that meant I couldn't tow my caravan and confirming they would rescue the caravan the customer service from this point was awful. My caravan was stranded, they told me after I had made arrangements with the site that it was covered then it wasn't then it was. After many phone calls and many broken promises I found out by accident that a company was taking it to storage, not to my home. I didn't trust the RAC so I got the address. I turned up at the storage facility and it was closed. The recovery agent and my caravan turned up and he said it wasn't his problem he had done his job. If we hadn't been there our caravan would've been left in the street. The RAC think this is ok. They think making repeated expensive phone calls is ok. They think recovering your own caravan is ok.

I'm sorry but I've been left unhappy with my RAC experience on many occasions and their broken promises have left me very frustrated. The RAC makes as much money as possible by providing a cut price and overstretched service that regularly fails its customers by leaving them stranded for many hours and even for several days. The RAC knows that avoiding their responsibilities results in untold chaos and misery. Call centre staff break promises and let motorists down day in day out. 'Customer care' effectively manage this shambles by using complex terms and conditions and a range of 'cut and pasted' excuses to ignore or dismiss any complaint in any circumstance. Sadly. the only 'happy' RAC customer is one who hasn't broken down yet!
