“After paying carjet 63euro we had to pay another hidden 70 sterling to Drivalia when we went to collect the car it was not on the terms and conditions .
Felt we were ripped off
Very disappointed with carjet”
“I have used CarJet for several years without problem but recently had a significant issue with deposit repayment on a booking brokered by them that has revealed a basic flaw in their service. This issue has cost me an additional EUR 170 and CarJet has responded disingenuously to avoid responsibility.
On 5 January 2024 I rented a car from MOVIS CAR RENTAL at Agadir Airport in Morocco for 2 months. I had been assured in an email from CarJet's "Head of Customer Happiness" Claire Davis dated 31 October 2024 that "MOVIS CAR RENTAL will ask you to leave a deposit of 1400.00 €. They won’t actually take any money – they’ll just block the deposit from your credit card in case there’s any damage." However, despite the assurance, when I collected the car, I was in fact charged EUR 1500 (not EUR 1400) to my credit card.
As the payment was in Dirhams, I had to pay a bank transaction charge. I then had to pay a further charge on the repayment I finally received 10 weeks later (MOVIS assured me when I returned the car that repayment would be processed within 24 hours but ultimately this did not happen for another week - I then had to wait a further week for funds to arrive). In addition, I had to bear the risk of currency fluctuation over the intervening period myself.
As a result: on 5 January I was billed MAD 15,000 at a cost of EUR 1,525.40. On 18 March I received back the deposit at a value of EUR 1,355.39. Thus, I made a loss of EUR 170 on the deposit payment.
When I engaged CarJet support over the issue I received the following reply:
"We made your claim to Movis and they explained that a block was not possible as they expire after 30 days. Since your rental was 56 days, you would have to return to the office to renew the block after 30 days. They said they offered the alternative option to charge the deposit and then refund it after the rental. They insist that this was explained and agreed upon. They refunded the same amount that was charged so they cannot make any reimbursement for fees that may have been charged by the bank. I'm sorry for any confusion that may have occurred but there is nothing we can do in this instance."
In fact, no such offer nor explanation was made by MOVIS. This was a false claim which I have no means of disproving. As a result, CarJet have avoided all responsibility.
I will be penning a separate review for MOVIS. Beyond the deposit issue, the vehicle was in a poor state of repair when I collected it. The tyres had clearly not been checked as all needed reinflating, and one had to be replaced as it would not hold its pressure above 0.6. The dangerous emissions warning light remained illuminated throughout the trip. Repeated attempts to call the service line numbers provided by staff went unanswered and no replies were ever received. On collection, the fuel tank was also on one bar and the wiper fluid level also almost empty. Finally, I was charged a cleaning fee on return and received a rude and contemptuous reply from the attendant when I challenged this.
The primary issue therefore lies with MOVIS. But I highlight these issues to demonstrate that CarJet clearly fail to monitor and manage the quality of their car rental partners. They will also take the word of their partners over their customers without evidence. And when they are confronted with an issue, they avoid taking responsibility or seeking a fair resolution.
In summary, CarJet offer a convenient and affordable range of car rental options, and on an individual level I found their support staff courteous and helpful. However, there is a systemic issue in terms of their quality assurance and customer care which makes it impossible to trust their services, nor their willingness and ability to provide conscientious support when there are issues. As a result of the bad faith they have shown then I will not be relying on them again.”
“After renting a car from Carjet in Malta, I paid for two insurance policies. However, upon picking up the car, it turned out that the company handling the rental was their partner, who is not responsible for Carjet's actions, and vice versa. I ended up paying three times more for the rental than the original offer.”
“Booked a car for two months. But I had to travel overseas for an emergency. My husband tried to pick up the car but they wouldn’t give it to him. He rented the exact car for another 1500 euros for one month. I lost the origin 1500 euros and they won’t give me a refund or the car for the time I have left on the rental. It’s a total scam. Do not book with this company.”
“Terrible do not use!
I booked a car, paid $60 deposit and traveled by Uber to the airport to collect the car from Alamo as per the instructions…at the cost of $65, the person at the desk said they have not got a car for me… and there’s nothing that could be done. Outcome no car rental, I was stuck at the airport…and had to cover the cost of transport to get back into town. Terrible terrible experience.”
“They withdraw €800 from my bank account taking advantage of the "penalty" permission to withdraw money only if the car had any new bump or scratch, which was not the case.
I am months dealing with Carjet to get this money back, but they simply won't care.”
“I do not recommend this company, on the rental website they cheat that you can use a debit card, so they want to get a higher fee for renting a car, then they claim that you do not meet the rental criteria and they do not want to refund the money, shame on you.”
“My booking CJT-159323772 total amount €969 and made partial payment of €638 through my visa credit card. The balance of €331 will be paid upon collecting the car. But when I received the final invoice the car rental co Hertz charged my €572 ! What happened to your billing system ? Pls check and correct the invoice immediately !”
“For 20 years, I've regularly rented cars, primarily with Sixt or Hertz. This past Christmas, I used Carjet at an Enterprise location in Frankfurt at Zeil 5. I was given a dirty VW Golf with a half-full tank, parked a mile away from the station. Upon returning to the station, I was told no other cars were available and advised to cancel my booking. I informed Carjet of the situation, but they refuse to reimburse the €77.41 I paid. It's true that no replacement automatic vehicle was offered, as none were available. Be warned: Carjet is the worst car rental company I have ever dealt with. I will not let it go I called car jet the same day and wrote about the incident which has been acknowledged”
“Communication is appalling. Tried to contact them by phone and email - nothing. I wanted to cancel platinum insurance before the rental began but they did not respond. Have phoned and emailed numerous times to no avail. Please do not use this company - I won’t ever again and I’m now considering taking legal action. If I could give them no stars, then I would. Disgraceful.”
“After I paid I received no communication what do ever of my booking, fortunately I had taken a screenshot of the booking number. I took the option of paying R500 per day extra for Insurence but when I got to collect the car I was told it is basic third party Insurence which means I am liable and must pay and then try and claim it back, on top of that I had to pay 4 x the rental as a deposit. The very helpful person at Eurocar just shook her head and said Carjet is ALWAYS a problem.
Do yourself a favour and do not book through this company, it misrepresents and is dishonest in what they sell.”
