Terrible Experience with Unsafe Vehicle from Goldcar I recently rented a car from Goldcar, and it turned out to be an incredibly distressing and unsafe experience. The car I was provided with was in a shockingly poor state. Not only was it visibly damaged and poorly maintained, but it also had a critical safety flaw – it lacked adequate front brake pads. Driving a vehicle without proper brake pads is extremely dangerous, and it's appalling that a car in such a condition was even part of a rental fleet. This isn't just about customer dissatisfaction; it's a serious safety hazard. It shows a complete disregard for the safety of customers and other road users. When I reported this issue to the Goldcar staff, I received an answer saying is not my responsibility. This lack of concern for a matter so grave further added to my frustration and disappointment. I chose Goldcar expecting reliable service and a safe, well-maintained vehicle. Unfortunately, what I got was the exact opposite. This experience has not only inconvenienced me but also raised serious concerns about their vehicle safety standards and customer service quality. I strongly advise others to think twice before renting from Goldcar. The risk of getting an unsafe vehicle is not worth it, and the poor handling of such serious issues is unacceptable.

We booked through rentalcars.com and rate included CDW. When we collected car a Barcelona Gold Cars said we had to pay additional insurance. We argued that our confirmation showed it as included but they said internet booking companies lie about costs and would not release car. We contacted rentalcars.com straight away to complain but as we had already signed the contract there was nothing they could do. Apparently you need to tell Gold Cars to put it in writing, obviously the internet booking companies are aware of the scam.

TOTAL SCAM. this company incorrectly charges you for damages/accidents that never happened and goes against its own contract where they clearly state 'there is no need to report small dents and nicks of 2cm or less'. and then when you dispute this charge, they STILL charge you 50eur as a processing fee to dispute the charge!! ABSURD. scam artists. i am STILL fighting with them for illegally charging me from August rental! AVOID this company at all costs!!

Total tourist scam! They advertise cheap rental but when you get there, the deposit or insurance is incredibly high. Not customer friendly and all they care about is making money by fxxx people over... Worst service/company ever!!!

I booked and pre-paid a pick-up at Barcelona airport for 7.40pm on Christmas Eve. The booking was made via EasyJet and the inbound flight was specified on the voucher. The flight was delayed a little and I arrived at the desk at 8.20pm. The desk was closed (the voucher said it should close at 11.00pm). The telephone number on the voucher was unanswered. We took a taxi to our hotel and returned next day (Christmas Day). The Goldcar representative said as we had not turned up within six hours the booking was cancelled. (We had of course turned up well within the specified time, but there was no way of contacting Goldcar). He further said you would not honour the booking, if there was a car available it would cost more. He became rude and aggressive. He was not at all concerned that my wife and I who are both in our seventies, and non-Spanish speakers, were left abandoned at Barcelona airport on Christmas Day. People standing nearby were somewhat shocked at the attitude of your staff - basically ‘couldn’t care less’. No refund so far

Hi there I wrote a review a couple of months ago regarding Gold cars and their insurance scam. Can't see how to edit it so here is another. Goldcar slipped in a top of the range insurance which I didn't want or need. I complained to my broker Discover Cars and they were brilliant. They refunded their insurance fee but couldn't help with Gold Car. I then contacted Barclaycard. They were great as well. They have just got back the spurious insurance fee from Gold Car. Don't give up, press them from all angles and they do cough up.

I will never use this company again and I should have read the reviews first and would have known. The company charge you additional charges and when you write to customer services are ignored if they can’t defend their position. They give you poor damaged vehicles and then charge you for damage that they say you have done on return by saying you were in an accident. Even though the headline figures are cheaper online, you are better off going to a more reputable dealer that look more expensive at the outset but actually ends up being cheaper!

Terrible service Alicante airport. Returned vehicle in good order. Rear windscreen wiper was removed in the garage (it's on a video of the kids singing in return to the airport). Staff too busy to confirm condition prior to flight. Encouraged to use the drop box, then hit with €100 charge. Con , lost a frequent customer

Crooked Company When I collected the car virtually every panel had damage so impossible to completely check.On return there was nobody available to check so I left the keys in the drop box.I was subsequently sent a damage report which showed a minor mark which looks like a dirt mark on one of the very few panels that was not damaged.I was also invoiced for 126.62 for the damage which is an absolute joke.I then received another invoice with an additional charge of 41.32 administration charge a total of 167.94 From review sites Goldcar appear to be crooked in their actions even though their website shows a very high approval rating.I have rented from Goldcar regularly for 18 years and when I have caused damage I have gladly accepted responsibility. Needless to say I will never use the company again and will spread the word amongst all the organisations I am involved with in Spain as well as review sites. I now understand why the queues at the counter in Alicante are a lot shorter than they used to be. As a follow up to add insult to injury when I checked my credit card bill they have taken 176.62. they are crooks.

DO NOT RENT HERE, THEY ARE THIEVES & SCAMMERS! NO ALQUILES NADA AQUI, SON LADRONES & ESTAFADORES! Contrato 24448168, Numero de cliente 21673388 - Case #18068038 I did everything by the contract and left the car absolutely fully, I even went to fill up 10 minutes before dropping the car to put to the maximum expending 3euros more, so to make sure all was perfect. I left the car and they charged me 62euros because they said the tank was not full! I sent the proof of payment and not they do not answer to "any of this claims on the phone" & an by email they do not respond, so is the perfect crime... they are thieves with no honour. It is not much money but it is the principle that kills me. I will make sure that everybody i know know about you little rats! Hice todo tal y como dice el contrato, deje le coche completamente lleno, incluse pare 10 minutos antes para rellenar 3euros mas y asegurarme que estaba hasta arriba de gasolina. Deje el coche en el aeropuerto en su sitio y me dicen qu eme van a cobrar 62euros porque decian que no deje el deposito lleno! Envie las pruebas del pago, lugar y hora exacta de cuando llene el deposito y con un extracto de mi banco. Ahora dicen que "no responden a este tipo de question en el telefono" y al email no responden a ninguno de mis email. Me llejan esperando un mes sin respuesta y con mi dinero en sus manos. Esto es una estaba y un robo, son unos ladrones. El dinero no es mucho pero el el principio lo que jode porque te roban el dinero y en teoria no puedes hacer nada pero no me voy a cansar de ensenarle al mundo que tipo de ratas son estos. tambien voy a hablar con mi abogado y ver que acciones legales puedo tomar. Son unos estafadores y seguire con comentarios en todos lados hasta que me respondan y me devuelvan el dinero robado.

Hidden insurance charges >200 euros, additional fees taken not present on the invoice Invoices are also incredibly vague. Paid 59 euros for the petrol gauge being short 7.83 euros so if you don't fill up with a Jerry can in the airport expect to get a 50 euro penalty fee.

Most disappointing experience ever when I rented my car at Tenerife south airport. I went through Expedia to rent with Goldcar. I purchased insurance through Expedia but when I was picking up my car I ended up paying 5x of what was promised and agreed upon with Expedia for insurance. I tried cancelling my reservation but was told by Jorge that I couldn’t because I went through third party company. I had no choice but to pick up the car. Not only that Jorge told me that I had to pay a young driver fee because my Canadian drivers license was less than 4 years old and that was considered in Europe a young driver. I’m 44 years of age and have been driving since I was 18. Because I could not produce a document that states that I had no choice but to pay for the additional fee. I did some research online and couldn’t find anything that states or requires such a thing. I went back to Expedia thinking they would advocate for their customers but their response was the vendor is low staffed and have yet to respond therefore they can’t help me. This has left me with such a sour note. I will need to think twice before dealing with Expedia and Goldcar ever again. And Jorge had the audacity to ask me to rate him 10/10. What a joke.

Worst ever they charge a lot of money u cant pay from dif card and i if u want to pay from dif card they charge a lot off money and now they charge me 50€ cos i get ticket and i dont remember i get any ticket and then i will have to pay for ticket to someone else so they charge 50 for pasing your details heheheheh crazyyy never rent from them in any sytuation 👎🤌

Terrible service. Alicante airport. Hidden costs. When you get to the airport, you get hit with a very expensive fee for their insurance. Also, on return of car, was charged for a missing breakdown kit, which was never in the car. Then to cap it all, Goldcar, took another payment from my bank account, 9 weeks after the car was returned. No notification as why they were taking money. I have been told that Goldcar Alicante airport are notorious for these kind of actions. Do not use this company. They are thieves!!

Everything becomes complicated when handing over the car, no staff on site, just put the key in the box, an hour later I receive a notification of 260 euros for lack of fuel (10 euros plus 50 euros service costs) while the full was done (take a photo) as well as a small rear bumper point (probably which was already there) for 200 euros. I rented the car for 70 euros cheap but when you don't take out their insurance they catch up to take your money

Please book with anyone else. We booked the car with a third party and at the counter goldcar first told us insurance was not valid so we had to pay for that again. However the real problem started after we returned the car. Upon returning the car I was told the hold on my bank account would be refunded to my card for the fuel. But after a month of not getting it back I started emailing them. Yulia at this useless car company is probably the worst unhelpful customer service representative I have every had to deal with. For weeks I just a automatic message pretty much that i need to talk to my bank, and they have nothing to do with it. Only when I told them I had made a formal complaint to the econsumer.gov about this car company did this Yulia girl start to look into things. They had refunded the hold to someone else's card and told me to talk to my bank again. Honestly after two months of trying to get 159 euro back they won't give it back to me. I have no words for this company and the words that I have I don't think are appropriate for this forum. NEVER USE THEAE PEOPLE THEY ARE SCAMERS they won't help you even when they have done something wrong. Any car company is probably better than this one

Con artists. Due to an oversight on my part I unfortunately booked a car with them again.For the 2nd time they claim I have had an accident and marked the car(which I haven't) So after resisting the temptation to punch the guy at the vehicle return and refusing to sign anything they send me a bill for £165 and once again I refuse to fill out any forms and directly email back telling them I don't accept anything they then reduce the bill by over £100? If this isn't genuine proof they are just trying to scam people I don't know what is! AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Do not use this company Do not use this company. We hired a car at Lisbon. I pointed out some scratches on rear bumper which they took photos of. They measured the scratches and said they didn't need to report them as they weren't large enough. We returned car and they said all OK. Then I get a charge for the scratches for £129. I have made a complaint but no response. This appears to be standard practice. There is even a Facebook site titled Goldcar Victims. Goldcar, give me my money back. I will pursue you.
