This is the most unfriendly rental company I have ever been with. 2 times the car broke down. In both cases I never even received an apology. The last time I was one hour early and the company refused to give me the car and I has to wait the full hour till they would release the car. I have never seen this behavior with any rental company!

Awful company. On three occasions we have been charged extortionate amounts for minor damage which we were able to prove on two occasions with photographs at collection were existing. Low prices supplemented by spurious claims. Also aggressive selling of their expensive top up insurance. AVOID.

Do not book with them!! They quote you low prices at the start only because they know they can trap you later with additional charges that are a) not reasonable at any level b) discrete and concealing as the contract you would sign is in Spanish c) outrageous they don't explain on any deduction and provide lame reasons when queried! Simply and unprincipled business I will never deal with

Rented Goldcar October 2022 from Nice, France. Got a speeding ticket from the French authorities, €45. Godcar charged me €55 additionally for forwarding the e-mail from the French authorities to me!

I had to pay Goldcar (Gibralter airport) 1600 euros deposit. After returning the car with the fuel tank full as requested and totally UNDAMAGED it looks as if I am going to have to sue them to recover my substantial deposit. I will never use these criminals again.

After returning the car at their Bodrum Airport office, the employee decided that a "special" cleaning was needed. It is true we used the car for almost a month, so that will show. However they took 1500 TL for cleaning from my credit card (which is an enormous amount for cleaning a car in Turkey). In my rental agreement it says that maximum cost for special cleaning in 720 TL, so actually they took 780 TL extra. This is theft. Avoid Goldcar at all cost, scammers.

Crooks! They insisted for us to pay insurance and we declined as we already had one. So they charged us for the damages we've never caused few weeks after our trip!!

We are an old-time, loyal gold car customers and always rent our car with them when we go to Alicante. We have additional insurance covering entire EU so we have never booked insurance via goldcar. Something must have changed as we are now getting charged for damages regularly! Last time we were charged for a damage which wasn’t caused by us but thought it was a one-off occurrence so let it go in the end, we had photos of the car but they weren’t detailed enough. This time, we have taken photos of all damages, video of the entire bodywork, I even went to the office to report more damages that were not listed and marked on the car rental detail sheet and I was told it’s all ok, nothing is larger than 1cm so I will be ok, some damage is standard so it will be ok. To be fair the team was uninterested. Now we have dropped the car off and got charged £250 for damages that again, are not ours!!! Who checks the bumper under the car when they book? Who climbs under it? Not coming back again. You have lost a loyal customer! Not worth the stress.

The staff at Palermo airport particularly a woman called Monica were rude, unhelpful and arrogant. They clearly did not have a car at our pre booked rate or wanted to rent the car we booked to someone else at a higher rate. They used the ridiculous pretext that we did not have international licence which I have not used for 30 years as Australian licences have photo Id and are written in Latin text which is the EU and US standard. It was a shameful scam which could have stranded us but not only was it an outrageous lie the staff were appalling in the way they treated us. I would not even recommend Goldcar to my worst enemy. They are appalling scammers to be avoided at all costs.

I rented a car threw Car jet from these people. I also added an insurance- When I arrived, they said that the insurance is not a real insurance and they refused to take my debit card, they said that they don't like my bank! although I 've read all terms and conditions and nothing was stating that they don't work with N26 bank! I had to buy a 2nd insurance from them and to pay a double fee in order to retrieve the car and continue my trip. All for all, it is very close to a scam if it is not one!- avoid by any mean.

Awful experience. Booked hire car online and paid extra for the premium insurance. When we arrived to Alicante to collect the car we was told to pay another £150 euros plus £90 for petrol ( you get this back if you return the car full). When booking and paying for the hire car + premium insurance it clearly states you will not pay anything else at the airport and the cover we had purchased is premium meaning fully covered. It’s a massive scam. Do not use Gold car. If I could give them a 0 rating I would.

After I had booked and paid for a car rental on goldcar website, I went to the office to pick up the car. I had to pay for a deposit for the gas (as you'd expect). They did not refund the full amount (although I made sure to fill the tank before handing the car back). After investigation and few emails with their support center, it turned out, they charged me for an "Premium" insurance without telling me. The price was 10x what I initially paid. The person at the counter did not tell me anything about it at the time of the car pickup. Avoid... scammers.

I rented with this company as they said on website they allowed to rent with debit card, they do but only if you pay a excessive insurance that they tell you only when you go to pick up the car. As I had no other choice I ended up paying 364 euros for a initially 74 euros for a 11 days rental. Two days before the return of the car on staurday night one of the tires was blown and I was forced to call road assistance as the car had no kit or replacement tyre. I had flight on monday morning and was concerned on how was going to go to airport. I tried to arrange taxi (included in the insurance I had to buy to rent the car) since saturday night and they told me to call sunday am and arrange it then. I did this and the response was they could not book and it is a 24h assistance I could call at any time and the taxi would take MAX 1h30 to reach me. Well I called at 00h30 and the taxi was at my door at 4am. I almost lost my flight. I would not recommend to rent with this company.

Price looks too good to be true. It is! They have to make their profits somehow especially in the quiet season when it was €6 a day for a medium sized car hire. Unfortunately they chose as a company to con people out of their money once they get back home. They charge different people for the same damage over and over again. My deposit was returned in full to my amazement but then 2 weeks later €100 was charged to my credit card. The terrible customer service ignore messages and emails in the hope you will give up. DON'T! There are forums on Facebook to help guide you through the process to get your money. It can be a long process. Lots of stress and time invested. In short - AVOID!!!

IF I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS I WOULD. Arrived at Palma Airport - it was late and we were very tired. So I Guess a perfect 'hit' for the staff to get add- on insurance. The member of staff was 'aggressive' and basically 'bullied us' into having the top price insurance (showing bits of paper in Spanish which we did not understand.) I showed the AXA extra cover from DO YOU SPAIN which showed as full cover - and having already paid out for the car the only option was to go with it rather than go to another car hire and lose the money already paid. IT IS A SCAM. THEY HAVE NOW LOST A POSSIBLE RETURN CUSTOMER AND AS WE ALL KNOW - A SATISFIED CUSTOMER TELLS ONE FRIEND...A DISATISFIED CUSTOMER WILL TELL AT LEAST TEN FRIENDS. ZERO STARS GOLDCAR.

If you don’t want to read the whole story then here are the reasons why you should never choose Goldcar: - I was forced into paying over 270 Euros for the full, zero excess insurance under false pretenses - The car was not maintained well and unsafe - Staff was rude and condescending I cannot stress this enough, please don’t choose them. You are going to be better off with a reliable car rental company. Here’s the detailed backstory to that: I arrived at Madeira airport where I had booked a car with Goldcar. I booked it on the basic insurance because I have a private car rental excess insurance. When I was asked to hand over my driver’s license, passport and credit card, I did so. I was then told that the credit card could not be accepted because my first name was initialed. The only option to get a car, if I didn’t have a credit card with my full first name, would be if I paid for the full, zero excess insurance and they would then put the 116 Euro petrol deposit on my debit card. The reason which was given to me was that I could in theory rip off any family member who has the same first name initial, after they pointed out the T&C state that my name needed to be on the card. I was very surprised, because initialed first names are very common on credit cards in the UK and I have never had issues with any car rental company with this credit card. I argued that my name was on the card, but this wasn’t accepted. I pleaded that I could show the Santander banking app which would show my full name together with the last digits of the card, but I was told by Sofia, the member of staffI was dealing with, that she was ‘not a bank’ and she did not check banking details. After some more arguing about the terms ‘name’ (as stated in the T&C as necessity on the credit card) and ‘full name’ (what Sofia was demanding from my card) I was told that I didn’t understand her (Sofia’s) point, that if my mother would have wanted to name me after my initial at birth, she would have, something which I found quite condescending and rude. I asked if I could double-check with her manager, to which I was told with a smile that unfortunately it was Saturday and I would need to wait in the airport until Tuesday until the manager was back. Then I was handed a card with the customer service telephone number on. I went away and called customer service to ask if my card could not be accepted after all. The lady on the line gave me three options: 1. log in to my account and try to change the first name on the booking to my initial (I objected that according to the argument given to me at the counter I was concerned that my driver’s license and passport would then not be valid anymore) 2. book another car with the initial as a first name and try to claim back the money for the original booking based on the fact that I had second booking (an option which I did not want to try out after my experience with the company) 3. pay the security of the car not by credit card but by debit card, something which she assured me was possible While giving me those options she tried to thank me twice for my call and end the call. Upon the third time, she told me that she had given me three options, wished me a good day and hung up. I went back to the service desk and asked to put the car deposit onto my debit card, but was told that this was not possible. In a final attempt I asked for Sofia to show me where it said in the T&C that I need the full name on the credit card and where it says that only credit cards are allowed for the security deposit, to which I was told that this was not her job and that I should contact customer service for this. I then asked for a confirmation that I was denied a car due to the initialed first name, to which I was told that she was ‘not a lawyer’ and that she would not give me any confirmation of any sort. Finally, after over an hour of stressful thinking about how to get a car to start my holiday, I had to agree to pay for the full insurance, which more than doubled the rental cost (˜204 Euro for the rental plus >270 Euro for the zero excess insurance). It turns out that I could’ve paid the deposit by debit card after all, as I figured out later while re-reading the T&C, where it says under point ’15. DEPOSIT’: ‘The deposit blocked (credit card) or charged (debit card) will be unblocked or refunded to the customer once the vehicle has been returned, and Goldcar has checked that the vehicle is in a good state and that the terms of the contract have been fulfilled.’, meaning that I was wrongfully forced by Goldcar to take out extra insurance. To make matters worse, on the trip we found out that the car wasn’t well serviced at all. While driving with it, we got multiple warnings of low tyre pressure, the front collision sensor not working and the electronic stability system needing service (see images). Whenever turning the steering wheel when the car was stationary, the steering was cracking horribly. We weren’t feeling very safe at all in this car during our trip. This was in addition to the car not being well cleaned when we collected it (see pictures). So yeah, please don’t give that company more money and rent from another car rental company, for your safety if nothing else. Also, since finding out that the group belongs to Europcar, perhaps you don’t want to rent from them either for moral reasons…
