Hi All, Finally received my shipment of frozen chili. The shipping and distribution system this company uses appears to be very slow, with orders in limbo, delayed, or lost. I hope they fix it. I will say that once they shipped, I received the chili promptly. The 1-pound packages were still frozen solid when they arrived, even here in Florida. Regarding the chili, I have to say the quality of the product is average compared to two or three years ago. I understand (and appreciate) variability in heat and expect it. However, the chili appeared to be overly roasted (very soft, almost mushy) and brownish green in color. Orders in years past have been mostly a very bright green, with firm pieces of roasted meat. Not sure what changed, but hopefully next year will be better and get a 5-star rating from me.

The product arrived frozen and as described. However, I never received an email alerting me to the delivery, so I did not know it was being delivered. It arrived to my office after-hours (luckily someone was still around to accept it), and I had no way of getting it home because I didn't know it was coming and didn't drive my car that day.

Ed, unfortunately we have no way of knowing when we'll start shipping the red each year. It really does just depend on the weather!

My order on Sept. 16th was for 5 pounds of roasted chilis, 5 pounds of fresh red, and an 11 ounces of green chili powder. I did pay the 2-day shipping as recommended by the Hatch Chili store, but realized that as it was Friday that they most likely wouldn't ship out till Monday for a Wednesday delivery. On Wednesday, 9/21, the tracking number still had not updated, and that should have been my 2-Day delivery time (i.e. I was sitting around waiting) so I contacted the company. I received a reply, "We were not able to get your box out yesterday, but will be sending it out today. You should see movement on your tracking number around 5 pm today. We will be shipping out your powder order later this week." Okay.... If I had not contacted the company I would not have known this because they did not send me any update or notification that there was a delay, I had to ask. I paid for 2-Day shipping and it took a week, I received my roasted chilis on Friday, 9/23. I'm in Phoenix, AZ and these were coming from one state over, not going across the country. I received my 5 pounds of chilis on 9/24 and I was home when they arrived in a little styrofoam cooler, opened them right away, and they were not frozen, but still cold, so I threw 4 bags in the freezer and kept out the one that was completely thawed. I received my chili powder on 9/24 and my fresh red chilis on 9/29. In the interim I surprisingly found some Hatch chilis at a local Sprouts and was able to get a nice quantity that were fresh and firm. My last words on this order from the Hatch Chile Store were that my fresh red chilis were shipped (according to tracking) on Tuesday, 9/27, I received them on Thursday, 9/29, and they were just thrown in a box and the condition was semi-firm, which was disappointing because in comparison I know that I went back several times to the grocery store to buy more at $1.49 a pound and they were very firm and fresh, and most likely they'd been in the store for several days. I was expecting firm, fresh red chilis and got somewhat soft chilis, which did not seem fresh at all, which I've been sitting on as kind of the last straw about this $133.50 experience. They taste good but I drew the short straw regarding this experience.

Hi Kathleen, Red chile is not like green. When shipping, it is already fully mature and begins to soften within a few hours of being picked. It would be similar to picking a peach a week before it is completely ripe while it is still firm (this would be green chile) vs picking it when it is completely ripe and so soft a small touch would bruise it (this is red chile). Best, Preston

I order 12 jars of the Green & Red Chile Sauces that come in glass jars. About half of them arrived broken, which was a mess to clean up. Customer service was very helpful in replacing the broken jars right away. However, when I received the replacement jars 2 of them were broken too! I gave up after that getting them replaced. I also ordered Medium Hatch Green Chiles. The flavor was good but not as spicy as I would have hoped.

I ordered the hot chilies but they were mediums at best. I've eaten greenchilies since a child growing up in New Mexico. The shipping, packaging and delivery was excellent and the product was in great shape.

After a friend spoke to someone at Hatch on the phone about the heat levels in the chile, we ordered 10 lbs of "hot" instead of "extra hot" roasted - but so far the chiles we've tried have been more on the medium side. However, the quality and taste is good, I just really need some hotter for a couple of recipes. Also, I expected to receive product on Thursday (2-day shipping purchased) and had made arrangements to have someone there to wait for it, but It didn't arrive until Friday and I had to make special arrangements again. On the positive side, the packages were still very cold and the product was fresh. My rating is really between average and good, could have been very good if there was more heat!

Hi Gloria, Unfortunately, heat is very subjective. We use the standard "hot" variety which has been grown here in NM for decades (Sandia) but this has been a wet year. As such, all of our chile is on the milder side than in a typical dry year. We do not actually offer roasted X-Hot so Sandia is the hottest option we had for you. As to the shipping, we do not ship the day orders are placed. Frozen orders are shipped Tuesdays and Wednesdays based on the availability of dry ice. The shipping speed (2-Day) is measured in the number of days between when the package is shipped and when it is delivered. Since your order went out on a Wednesday and arrived on a Friday, that is on-time for 2-Day service. Best, Preston

Order #28776 was shipped on 9/20/16 & received 9/22/16 & the person receiving the peppers was pleased. This was after I emailed on 9/18/16 about why it wasn't shipped on 9/13/16. Oder #28780 was shipped on 9/13/16 & received 9/19/16. Attached are some pictures of the peppers. My son did enjoy the peppers he was able to salvage.

Chiles were not as fresh as I had expected for the price, and considering the two day shipping.

Hi there! It looks like you didn't actually order 2-Day shipping as recommended and your box was delivered in 3 Days. The free shipping on our 5lb boxes is 2-3 day delivery, not guaranteed 2 Day. In the future, I'd recommend opting for the 10lb box (same price) and paying for guaranteed 2-Day delivery.

This is not my first year purchasing a large amount (70 lbs) of green chile from Hatch. This year I was unhappy because the boxes, when delivered by UPS were hot to the touch due to the temperature inside the delivery truck. When I opened the boxes, several of the chiles had already turned red and a few had gone bad. This was a very disappointing experience as the chile from The Hatch Chile Store is not inexpensively priced. I was truly disappointed.

I placed an order 8/28 that was supposed to arrive 9/1, the order didn't arrive until 9/6. I had to throw that order away and request a new one. Needless to say I was very frustrated and sad to throw away an expensive product.

Hi Corey, I'm sorry UPS screwed up and delivered the first box late. I would think that our prompt replacement would have made your experience with us a good one. Unfortunately, carriers do make mistakes and there is really nothing we could do other than re-ship your order.

I ordered from this site last year and everything was perfect. THis year my fresh frozen green chile came completely thawed and had no ice pack in the container what-so-ever. I selected the two day delivery service as I have for many years cumulatively although last year was my first year with this company. I am sure they are edible still and have refrozen them, but it was a bit disappointing. Otherwise.....all is well.

I ordered Hot (Sandia) Fresh Hatch Green Chile. The chiles I received were great looking, and tasted good. But I would never describe them as Hot, and I can't imagine who would. They were Medium at best. I haven't lived in NM since the late 80s, so I'm confident it's not that I'm too used to NM chiles all the time, though I will say I get hot red chile powder that is substantially hotter than what I received from you all. I'm disappointed now, because I'll have to use many more of them to achieve something near what I wanted, and of course even doing that won't work. Tasty but too mild. Sigh.

Chilies are 5 ????. I pre-ordered and then had to send an e-mail in mid-August to remind you of the order.

Hi Jeff, per our conversation would you be willing to revise this? We typically don't start shipping bug Jim until the 21st August. This year, we started almost a week earlier than usual due to good weather conditions earlier in the year. I'm sorry you were disappointed with the timing of your order but we do advertise that the Big Jim is one of our latest varieties each year. If you'd like chile earlier in the season, you'll want to order our Hot (Sandia) as it typically matures faster. Best, Preston

I have to say that I am disappointed the chilies came on the on the third day not the two days I paid extra for. I also felt that the product wasn't as spicy as I was told it would be. I wanted it to be hot and it was just average I was talked out of getting the hot one by the salesperson. So I'm not really satisfied I spent $90 which is a lot but I took a chance not satisfied thank you

Chiles were too mild and far too expensive. I found a local grocer that brings them in for $28 per large bushel, roasted on the spot.

We are extremely disappointed in the flavor & lack of heat of the Joe Parker (marketed as "medium") chiles recently received. No problems with the overall freshness or timely shipment (although we specifically paid extra for 2 day shipping & kind of wonder if paying more was really necessary). We called to give feedback -- customer service was cordial, but no offer was made to try to partially reimburse us. These chiles are not flavorful enough to even rate mild (they're more like a bell pepper); for the considerable expense per pound and exorbitant shipping costs, I would not recommend these to other customers. I'm especially irritated because while ordering, I described that we'd like something with substantial flavor and medium/hot quality and I was recommended the Joe Parker which I would not have otherwise considered. One thing is for sure: the claim about "consistency in flavor" is true: all are flavorless and bland.

Hi there, I'm sorry you ordered our medium. It is running a little milder than usual this year. If you requested medium/hot, we actually have a medium-hot variety. Do you know who you spoke with? They should not have suggested medium if you were looking for medium-hot.
