I sent my old Google Pixel phone to Back Market based on their offer of paying GBP187 for it.
Due to a family emergency I didn't think any more of it, until a month later when I logged in to Back Market to see when I would be paid. I then saw that they had made me a counteroffer of just GBP10 - a 95% reduction on their inital offer.
I told them I'd like my phone back rather than sell it for this amount, but through the course of many email back and forths they kept saying that according to their Ts&Cs the ridiculously low counteroffer was auto-accepted after 14 days, and there's absolutley nothing they can do for me.
I've asked 4 times to speak to the head of customer services, but they say this is not possible, and instead eventually gave me a postal address in Paris to make a complaint to.
Their email customer support is very friendly and responsive, but not at all helpful. I feel like these guys have stolen my phone, and have stonewalled me from escalating and resolving the issue.

Don't waste your time selling to Backmarket. I went online and they said I'd get a 100 based on the questions I asked. Seemed simple enough. Well they sent me the pre-paid label and I shipped them my device! 4 days later, they changed their offer from 100 to 40 saying the PS was cracked! I sent them pictures showing the device had no cracks prior to shipping! Long story short, they sent my device back with an additional crack and missing screws! Unbelievable!!! Why are you taking the device apart in the first place???? And if you gone take it apart put it back right!!! So essentially, they put the cracks in my PS4 and them blamed me!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!! Sell it locally don't waste your time......”
“Backmarket shipped me a broken “refurbished phone.” The gps and tap to pay on the phone didn’t work so I sent to back to be fixed. After weeks of waiting for it to come back once again, it comes back completely unfixed. I take the phone to a phone repair store where they discover the entire inside of the phone looks damaged. The parts that I sent back to be fixed were completely disconnected from their placements inside. The repair woman told me it looks like they hadn’t even checked the phone and proceeded to write me an inspection notice to send to them. I reported to my bank, but Back Market wouldn't return money even though they received both phones back and they were refunded the money from third party company. I accidentally accepted the offer (i would have not accepted this low offer). I told them i had accidentally accepted the offer and didn't want to trade in my i-pad for such a low amount but they replied with "sorry but they could no longer return my item".
This company really shouldn't be allowed to trade if this is how they deal with their customers. It's a scam!”
“The phone I received obviously has a cheap replacement screen which doesn't work as well as one would expect. The phone I traded in was in perfect condition when I mailed it but magically the screen was shattered "in transit" so they offered me less money for it. This is a scam.
