I thought I was preordering green chile for the 2023 fall crop. Instead, I received shipping notification early June that my order was being shipped. This was obviously not fresh crop chile. I called you at if this could be adjusted as we were going to be gone and was told there was nothing that could be done. Unfortunately, we were on vacation when our order was delivered and it was left outside in 90° heat for a week. I called again when we returned and was told that someone would get back with me the next day and that's the last I heard from The Hatch Chile Store.

We always buy medium but this medium product should be rated hot as almost intolerable.

We are very disappointed with our order. We ordered HOT whole chilies and they are at best mild. We lived in NM for 14 years so we know what we expected. Is there any recourse?

The online reviews that compelled me to order these outrageously expensive tamales were not accurate depiction of their quality. They were described as “ooey gooey with cheese,” but had no discernible cheese in them. The chile was hot, which is good, but the masa fell apart and they crumbled when removed from the husks. I will not order again. The only way to eat them was smothered in queso and more chile, and eating them from a bowl, like mush. Very disappointed.

Hi Marcy, I'm sorry you weren't happy with the tamales. Can you tell us how you prepared them? I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the way they came out. We normally don't get this kind of feedback so we would love to know more. Thanks, Daniel

It's not fair to rate a business over one disappointing order. I thought the chilli rellanos and tamales would be packaged individually so I could grab a couple instead of trying to chip them apart. I expected a lot more cheese in the rellanos. The pork tamales were nothing to special. I didn't even try the chicken tamales I gave them away. The packages I got are full of ice crystals so I think my order came from a very old product run that sat unsold too long. So it was thrown on sale to get rid of it. I have no complaints about previous orders and enjoy your other products.

I received my shipment quickly and none were rotted or red even. The packing for shipping is good. 2stars for that. These were supposed to be hot green chilies. They weren't even mild. I contacted The Hatch Chili store 3 times and they never made any attempt to make my order right. They do not stand behind their own product. Order at your own risk or do like I did and get some hot green chili from 505. Anything else will be better then what I got.

Hi Cathe, I'm so sorry the chile wasn't as hot as expected. We did have a milder crop this year, as is noted on the product page. Heat is also extremely subjective and varies greatly person to person. When you are preparing the chile are you ensuring you leave as much of the veins in as possible? Often people will remove the seeds at the top of the pods and remove a large amount of the veins along with it. All of the heat is going to be in the veins of the chile. I'm afraid the hot is the hottest we carry in the roasted. If you would be open to a discount on our X-Hot fresh Hatch green chile or X-hot jarred green chile roast, we could off you a 50% discount. Best, Saul

They had an odor, and we took a bite and they had a weird taste. No mold but smelled.

I called before I ordered because we had gotten hot chile that was very mild from another place. The agent we spoke with said there had more rain than usual but the Chile would be good. We asked if it would be hot and he said not a hot as normal but yes it would have good heat. I asked it it would be at least as hot as big Jim medium hot and he said it it would be much hotter than that. My husband got on the phone as asked again if we would get chile with heat and he was told yes. So we ordered 25#. The order shipped fast and arrived in good shape the only reason for the extra star. But instead of hot or even medium hot, we got extremely mild chile with no heat at all. I immediately called The Hatch Chile Store and got a message that customer service wasn’t taking calls. So we got what they sent but we didn’t get what we ordered and paid for. We are very disappointed and won’t be ordering from The Hatch Chile Store again.

Unfortunately once we received Chile there were some that were bad in the box. The most important thing is being late in crop chokes were smaller than ever before. I ordered extra hot and they were NOT hot at all. This is the first time that this has happened before. I know we had several delays due to weather I’m Not sure that I will order again next year .

I ordered hot chile from Lemitar. But was from Hatch. Absolutely no heat at all. The women that answer the phone are NOT HELPFUL AT ALL... They were in a hurry to get off the phone. I wanted to know why I got Hatch chile n was told that they ran out of Lemitar/Rosales chile. Very disappointed, especially being a NM native. Website needs to be self explanatory. It says ships in 2 days but didn't get it for 6 days as I was told y'all only ship on Tuesdays. It's not stated on website.

I ordered the Xtra Hot fresh green chile. I am disappointed. I have had mostly medium and a few hot ones. Most of them were mild to me so far. Other than that they came in good fresh condition. I could have paid a lesser price locally for mild. I can't get Xtra hot locally, so I paid the higher price of wanting Xtra hot. Sam

Last year when I ordered my Chiles, they came I roasted them and they were mild like I ordered. This year when I received them, they were so HOT!!!!! I roasted them and the smell and burn in my eyes I had to stop, tasted them and they were toooo Hottttt, I threw them all away, I believe I received the wrong order. We could not eat them, or roast them, they were to hot!!!!! We were very disappointed.

Received my hatch Chile and proceeded to roast it and couldn't wait to eat my first Chile wrapped tortilla and to my disappointment the Chile had no heat. Sweeter than a bell pepper. I e- mailed to let you know but my e-mail was never acknowledged. I won't be a repeat customer.

The chilis for the most part were small making them hard to roast and harder to peel. There were a lot of ripe ones which really don’t roast well. All in all I’ll never buy this way again. Best to buy frozen peeled and seeded frozen at Safeway or if possible pickup in Hatch.

Hi John, It doesn't look like you ever reached out to our customer service team about this issue. If we don't know about the issue, we don't have the chance to fix it. I'm so sorry to hear that you had a bad experience here! I pulled up your order and saw that you selected 2-Day Air for the shipping speed. We guarantee all Fresh Hatch Chile orders that are shipped using 2-Day Air. About how many chiles did you lose to spoilage/damage? Please send us photos of the chile that was spoiled. Once we receive those photos, we can get your free reshipment set up. Again, we apologize for this inconvenience, as we know that you were looking forward to your delicious Hatch Chile. Thanks, Taylor

the box was damaged by Fed X, so it was never delivered. I also dont like the Tuesday shipping you do. The 10 pound box was supposed to be delivered on a Thursday, but i found out that if the box was not damaged, it would have been delivered on a Saturday. thats too long to wait. Also the cost to ship is higher than the cost of the chilies.

Hi Sandra, It doesn't look like you ever reached out to our customer service team about this issue. If we don't know about the issue, we don't have the chance to fix it. Each week we ship on Tuesdays so that the vast majority of our orders are received on Thursday/Friday, allowing folks to roast their chile over the weekend. Unfortunately, the shipping rates on our website are what the carrier is charging for shipping, there is no markup. Upon pulling up your order, I noticed that you selected ground shipping. On our shipping page, we clearly state which services we guarantee for fresh chile. You opted for ground, which has a warning that it may spoil in transit. Most customers receive their chile in good condition with ground shipping, so we provide it as an option, but we give that warning about spoilage. There is also a pop-up that customers have to click through, which warns against opting for anything less than 2-Day Air if they are going to order fresh chile for shipment. We are more than happy to set up a reshipment since FedEx did not deliver your package. If you would like to upgrade to the 2-Day Air to guarantee your chile. Please let us know so that we can get that reshipment set up! Thanks, The Hatch Chile Store

Hi Steven, It looks like we replied to your email the same day it was sent. The chile you were sent was Charger, which is sold as medium across the state of New Mexico. At the time your order shipped, we had not yet started to harvest the mild. Heat level is very subjective and varies greatly from person to person. There are instances where people feel like the Mild is far too hot or that the X-Hot has no heat. People's heat tolerance can also change over time as they eat more or less spicy foods. What you were sent was the hot, we didn't start harvesting mild until today. I spoke to the owner, and they are willing to offer you 50% off a box of chile of a higher heat level. Please let us know if you would like to proceed with this opportunity, and we will create an invoice for the order. Best, The Hatch Chile Store
