Pissed off Celcom Customer
I have been on Celcom Prepaid Blue plan/package since 2009. My plan doesn't come with a mobile data plan so any internet usage incur very expensive pay-per-use charge of RM0.50/kb. In view of this, I ALWAYS have my mobile data, location service, and background data for apps turned off (I even used a very effective Firewall on my phone to prevent any connection from getting in or out on my mobile phone) to avoid connecting to the internet and getting charge unncessarily. But then, due to my failing eyesight (in my 60s), I hardly ever use my mobile for online activities. While at home my mobile phone connects to wifi only, but 99% of the time, I use my laptop for online activies, even for Whatsapp/Telegram messaging. When it's absolutely necessary for me to use internet when not at home, I always subscribe to an addon via Celcom Life app or via USSD code (*118), say for basic, or high speed internet. Over the past few years, however, Celcom has been deducting RM0.50 a few times each month from my prepaid balance by sending SMS notifications, often end or beginning of the month, and especially in the wee hours (after midnight when I'm asleep) that I'm entering pay-per-usage. I have on many occasions reported this to Celcom, but they always give all kinds of excuses and try to force me to upgrade to a plan with mobile data - which I don't need. There was once - in 2018 I think, that after many calls and following up with as many emails to them, they finally relented and refunded me about RM10.00 that they had wrongfully deducted that year for mobile data that I never used. After that, however, they refused to entertain or refund me whenever the same thing happened - even just yesterday. Though I may be a senior citizen, I am very well versed in IT, computers, internet, Operting Systems (including Linux), software, etc. and so I don't fall for the lame excuses Celcom Customer Service & technicians try to give - that the phone somehow automatically connects out even when all necessary precautions have been taken - to hoodwink customers into parting with their money. What Celcom is doing is clearly illegal, so please be aware of these unscrupulous and fradulent practices Celcom employs to make money off innocent victims.
