Total rip off, all they want is to scam money out of you. Got charged £126 for damage. Even though I had photos that proved different. I sent my photos to them and they weren't interested just took my money. No customer service, totally disregarded the proof I left the car in good order and un damaged. Stay clear of this company!

They lied to us to make us buy their expensive insurance cover!!! We booked a car through Rentalcars.com and paid for the extra exceeds full protection cover. At the desk they said this doesn’t really cover us in the event of a claim and that we could end up paying thousands more. Using this scare tactic and pretending to not speak Engish very well to answer our questions, we ended up buying their expensive cover which actually offered us no more protection that what we had bought in advance.

Went to gold car. Paid 301£ before we went and paid insurance with this price. Wen we got there had to pay another £250 for insurance even though we paid before. So 12 days in July was almost £600. Disgraceful. Never go to them again

Dreadful experience at Alicante airport. Took so long for everything to get sorted to actually pick up a car, even though it was all pre-booked. Was told lie after lie about insurance (I had already taken out extra insurance privately) and customer service was non existent. Not the car i was expecting or even close and was made to sign for car before i had even seen it and before checking for any damages. When it was checked with my wife, i went back to ask for changes to be made but was refused. Every person i spoke to was rude and did not want to answer any of my questions. Was charged too much when paid as lost out to exchange rates which was not explained to me. More money was taken from my account which my bank is looking in to. Never got the full amount back from the deposit and doubt i ever will. Car could not be checked when dropped off and staff refused to help me and surprise surprise they sent me a bill the next day for extra made up damages to car. Also sent me an email stating i had been involved in a car accident which is utterly ridiculous. I had photos and videos of car on collection and drop off which they are not interested in. No replies from to my emails which is no surprise. They had literally drawn on the vehicle with a pink marker to try and say i had done damage. Also damage to the door handle which was a spec of mud. I had the car for a week so did get a little dirty. Complete scam company who will do everything they can to bleed you of as much money possible. Avoid at all costs.

We collected a car from Gold car at Lisbon earlier this year and one of the people at the desk said "Just make sure you take pictures when you bring the car back and email them to me". Unfortunately we were rushed and didnt take pictures and were charged £250 for "wheel rim damage". This was after driving the car for about three hours in total over a week and when i left the car it was in the same condition as when we got it. I will NEVER USE THIS HIRE COMPANY again.

Despite not stipulating on their website, booking email or T&C's, Goldcar refused to acknowledge our digital international drivers licence and give us the car booked. Worse they would not refund money paid for the car they would not supply. Scammers!

Goldcar canceled our booking and kept our money I had booked a rental car for three weeks at Alicante airport, but the airline, SAS, canceled our flight. We had to book a new, much more expensive flight with another airline arriving the following morning. Goldcar did not let us keep the booking, so we lost all money paid due to their policy; "if you don't pick up your car within 6 hours, you lose your booking". End of discussion. One of the worst customer relations services I have ever encountered. I had to book another car at another car rental company. When I asked them what they would have done in the same situation, they responded; "we would just have given you the car keys in the morning. That would not have been a problem". I have often rented with Goldcar since we have owned a house in Moraira for eight years, but I will never use them again.

Poor joke rather than a customer facing company. Customer service below par, unless you like patronising treatment by some bored philosopher on the desk. Booked the car by a comparison website which lists Goldcar as one of their partners. Boy, they were eager to get their money for booking… However, arriving late night to Verona “I’m trying to help” philosopher on the service desk started to ask for more documents and questioned store issued credit card, which is issued by the card management company recognised by Goldcar. Ultimately I was left without car and, luckily, found other one through Europcar, whom I will use in future. For Goldcar - I would give negative stars if possible and as many as possible. They literally destroyed what supposed to be a pleasant family holiday. Don’t waste time on them, book through some serious companies. Don’t want any reply from them as there is no way that I will even consider ever using them again.

GOLDCAR.ES RENTAL CAR SCAM and RIP OFF July 2023: my daughter and her friend rented a car from GOLDCAR.ES via Carjet. They booked an additional Platina all risk insurance. Price: 325 EUR for eight days, including the Platinum all risk insurance. When arrived in Mallorca, GOLDCAR DID NOT ACCEPT their creditcard for the warranty. Neither my Visa Gold with a signed statement. Neither any cash. The only way to get their car was to take AN ADDITIONAL ALL RISK INSURANCE ON TOP OF THE -ALREADY ADDITIONAL- ALL RISK INSURANCE, covering exactly the same risks! Extra amount: 261,40 EUR! Total: 586,40 EUR for a small car, instead of 325 EUR. Which is +180% Arriving home, they noticed they also did not get their full warranty for the fuel back, while they returrned the car with a full gas tank. Goldcar held back another 50 EUR. Bringing the total scam to 311,40 EUR. Advice when renting a car; avoid scam and rip off like this!

I was quite unpleasantly surprised when Goldcar forced us to purchase a very expensive insurance, despite already having one. Goldcar mentioned that our insurance was invalid, and we basically had to choose between purchasing an all risk insurance for 282 euro's, or they would make a credit card reservation for 900 euro's, which we would all lose if the car even had a little scratch. We kind of felt like we had no choice, but after talking to Rentalcars (where we rented the Goldcar vehicle) they told us Goldcar did not have the right to do this and our insurance was valid after all. Even if people do need the insurance, Goldcar should put that on their website CLEARLY so customers know what to expect. I certainly did not expect that my rental car would be almost twice the price of what I initially purchased. So no, I am not happy with this service, despite the car being really nice and clean. Do better Goldcar! Be clear about your prices and don't force people into unnecessary and expensive insurances.

My experience with Gold car last weekend was the worst car rental experience me or my family have ever had over 30 years. Considering we travel to Portugal at least twice a year (4 this year due to bereavement) we have rent a car well over 100 times and to date this is the worst service and experience we have ever had. Both members of staff we dealt with were unhelpful and one member of staff was incredibly rude, not surprisingly both staff members refused to provide their names. The 45 minute wait to be served was excessive considering this was 9am in the morning, however the initial car provide a Opel Astra was in incredibly poor condition, the seats were torn, the steering wheel leather was worn away in places and the car was scratched dented in almost every panel. I attempted to refuse the vehicle but the women behind the desk refused to provide another car claiming this was the only car in this bracket despite having 2 other equally spec Astra’s right outside. The staff refused to provide me a car in a higher or lower bracket as they were “all rented out” essentially telling me I could either pay almost £100 a day for a Jeep renegade which was smaller than the Astra or if I wasn’t happy I could go elsewhere for my rental but that I would get no refund. Begrudgingly I accepted the rental and soon began what would be the worst car rental experience in over 30 years. The waning engine light came on 10 mins later while we were on the main motorway to Braga and the car advised the engine power had been reduced. We managed to make it safely off the motorway and contact Goldcar who advised that there was a wait for the car to be towed and that they would have to arrange for a taxi for us once the car was collected. Despite the mechanical issue the car was semi-drivable so I agreed to drive it back to the airport and get the car exchanged; taking a slightly slow longer route off the motorway in case of it fully breakdown which I was advised was ok to do. On returning to the airport the staff member taking receipt of the car he did not believe me on the faults until I showed him photographic proof of the dash messages to which he was no longer able deny, he signed the paperwork and I returned to the desk to get a replacement vehicle only to be advised that I would have to pay for the fuel used. I complained that this was unfair and that the amount of fuel they were charging me for (3/8 of a tank) was not correct, I should a picture of the dash showing the fuel level but they refused to accept this and when I demanded they look at the car again, they were unable to do so as this had already been taken to the garage. After arguing for almost an hour, they agreed to bring the car back for me to take away to refuel but only after I had agreed to pay for the fuel at a cost of £35. The replacement vehicle they provided a Peugeot 308 was in equally poor condition, the vehicle was scratched all over and in worse condition than the Astra, with the rear left passenger door having been clearly driven into but as the door was operational they considered the car acceptable for rental. At this stage it was already approaching half 1 in the afternoon and having already wasted 4 and a half hours with the useless staff I again begrudgingly the Car having been worn down by the whole experience but demanded the staff names involved in order to make a formal complaint. All staff members refused, the only name I have is Jessica Silva who was the women who I initially dealt with as her name was on the paperwork provided. Presently I am now out of pocket £35 for fuel I should have had to pay for, and I have also been double charged me for the rental with me paying for the rental of the Peugeot and the rental of the Astra which staff were adamant wouldn’t happen but has been the case.

DO NOT HIRE FROM THIS COMPANY. Have claimed a scratch on front bumper costs €270 to fix. No photographic evidence on their side it is from the car I hired, I was disputing on email but they still took the charge. The sooner this outfit goes under, the better.

We recently rented a car from Goldcar and hadn’t checked their reviews beforehand. If we had done, we wouldn’t have rented from them. Upon collection I pointed out damage to the vehicle that wasn’t on the forms. The Goldcar rep told me there was a problem with the system and he couldn’t update it but ‘it would be fine’ when we dropped it off. I insisted he manually drew the damage on the paperwork and stamped it with the company’s stamp which he reluctantly did. Upon drop-off they tried to tell me I’d caused the damage (m hut thankfully I was able to show them the paperwork. It was only when I was sat on the plane waiting to come home that I received an email with a bill for £800 which said ‘excess mileage’. Our mileage allowance over the ten days we had the car was 1200km - they were claiming we’d driven 3500km. I called and emailed explaining this was implausible, I’d been on holiday and had driven no more than 300 miles as most of the trip is been sat at the pool at my hotel. Nevertheless, they rejected this and said the charge stood. I’m now having to go through my bank to reclaim the money. I’ve rented cars for 20 years and though I always ensure damage is clearly recorded at pickup, I’ve never once thought to look at mileage recorded on the paperwork. Beware- this company is cheaper than all the others for a reason.

Never Ever rent a car from Goldcar. I made a reservation online, paid 117€. When arrived at the Barcelona airport to pick up the car, they told I reserved TOO SMALL car, she has THIS one only at a very good price, today only 38€ +10€, I was shocked. I told her it was too expensive for me (12 days stay), couldn't afford it, then she spoke smth with a colleague and made it little cheaper, her arguments were that it was a very good car, just a little bigger, and conditioning working, GPS working, easy to drive... I accepted cause I believed her words, it was the only one available.. I got down, found the car, and guess what GPS didn't work, radio didn't work, menu didn't work, nothing worked , and yes it was a brand new looking car, not even a scratch... I went back she changed the car to more scratched one, I thought she'd pay some refund cause this other car was not luxurious, she said no refund, don't worry, all will be fine, just put me an 9 or 10 points please, I will put her ZERO, DANIELA from Goldcar Barcelona. Lower I will attach the screenshots for my painments

FOOLS GOLD? I did not want to pay for Super Relax insurance cover Arrived at Malaga airport to collect a pre paid hire car inc basic insurance cover the assistant informed me my credit card was blocked as I tried to secure a deposit of 1500 euros payable if you want to avoid there expensive insurance cover. They then informed me my 2 debit cards were blocked as I tried to pay deposit by debit card and there would also be a charge of 400 euros would be to take deposit and return deposit if cards were not blocked. The only other alternative was to pay an extra 280 Euros for the super relax insurance cover that I did not want and guess what ? my cards magically worked for them to take payment. This company will sell you a hire vehicle at a cheap price then when you arrive to collect they will rip you off PLEASE READ OTHER RENTERS REVIEWS AND DO NOT BOOK A HIRE CAR WITH THIS COMPANY THERE PROFESSIONAL SCAMMERS

Flight from Manchester to Bergamo delayed 90 minutes. Arrived Bergamo to find Goldcar office closed, all other offices open but no cars available for our long onward journey. Stopped an unnecessary and unwanted night in Bergamo and called at Goldcar first thing. Advised that as we hadn't shown within one hour of booking contract cancelled, no car, no alternative and full costs retained by Goldcar. They knew our details, our flight, our delay and yet did not contact us or allow for the delay. I cannot accept that a car booked to be collected by 10pm Wednesday night in Bergamo was no longer available by 8:00am Thursday morning with no alternative vehicle on site. Kept our full 10 day rental payment just the same. Long story short, with hotel costs, public transport, different car hire arrangements, total additional costs £745. Never Ever Ever Use Goldcar!!!!
