Shockingly bad and I have been with them since 2005. But only the second time IA've broken down i all that time and needed them they don't show up. I managed to drive my vehicle the 40 miles home which was very risky considering I didn't know exactly what was wrong with it but hoped it was just a diagnostic problem. The other time I broke down about eight years ago they told me I needed a fuel pump and it was in fact the battery. Please avoid the RAC if you want to stay safe in case of a breakdown.

Absolute shambles. I honestly can't even fully go into how ridiculous this has been this morning. £120 a month I pay for some reason. And didn't have home Start in that. Tried to change £85 ontop to get helped at home today. That's what one person said, another said £40 and put Mr through to someone else so I could pay, but they weren't there to take a payment, and the whole process started over again. They don't know what they are doing

Absolutely awful, the aa are 10x better. Was told by them I had a faulty battery a year after having the aa put one in. I refused to pay rac £150+ for a new one so called the aa and they found out there was nothing wrong with it and just needed a simple jumpstart. They also flat out refused to come out once for no reason. Absolutely awful never go near them

My car is insured with Hastings Direct linked with RAC. I couldn’t start my Mini Cooper Countryman in a Aldershot service station. The RAC was with me within minutes and helped me above and beyond. I was more than grateful for such service. Elizabeth Clements, Aldershot.

Broke down with puncture a few miles from home. Daniel from the RAC came to our rescue as the old wheel was jammed solid and we couldn't get it off to put the spare on.

I can't believe how pushy the call centre lady was when I cancelled my membership. She wouldn't accept that I wanted to cancel. On 4 or 5 occasions during our dialogue I told her I just want to cancel but she wouldn't let it go. Well she did eventually of course. She asked me why? Which is fair enough. I told her why "that i have gone with a cheaper provider which has the same standard of cover" in fact it was slightly more impressive. She replied by saying that their policy would cost £70 per callout which was BS. She then tried to palm me off with several other deals to which i said no. I actually got charged £30 admin for the cancellation process. My policy was on auto renew but had to call the office to cancel auto renew i couldnt do it via the app which i think is ridiculous in this day and age. Being the weekend the office was shut so had to wait until monday by which time my policy renewed hence me having to cancel it. She told me in a rather condescending tone that i had been given ample time to do this. They didnt mention that you couldn't cancel auto renew using the app though. They have already had several hundred pounds worth of my money and in that time I Nether broke down. So that's not bad for a little bit of pen pushing. Just quit while your ahead. When will these corporations realise that pushyness just deters people in the future from using there services again. They are stabbing themselves in the back. Oh they also sent me a smug and smarmy email when confirming cancellation.

I had two bad experiences the first it took 28 hours to attend a callout and the second 7 hours to then be told the tyre was worn on inside so I was exempt from cover Also without my permission they renewed my membership and for the benefit of them increased my premium of 28 to 46.50 they are rip off merchants dont care about customers who spend over 300 pounds yearly give abysmal service cant get mechanics even offering a 5000 incentive due to terrible wages unless working lots of overtime I am leaving in less than a month and will never be a customer again terribly rude staff in callcentre

02/05/2024 my car broke down in newquay at 1500 hrs. I was offered a rent or loan car and was told that my taxi will be delivered from 5 to 7 days which i did not accept and then something no one ever heard in this real world started. Tow truck was arranged after chasing RAC and was told it can take upto certain miles. When reached second point was told to wait for another 2 hours and another tow truck was arranged for another bit of my journey. So from 1500 hrs to 2330 on the second of may 2024 i got only to certain points. Now on the 3rd may 0030 my scary dream continues and was dropped at another point around 0200 am . Here i was told someone will call me soon. Now i am still at my third point. After chasing and millions of calls i was told no one was aware and they will arrange a morning driver as still 100 miles to go. So i am awake for the past 24 hours and the break down happened yesterday 1500 and now its 3rd may 0505 am and i am still waiting , feeling sick and ill but i have to stay awake in case someone arrange a tow truck for me to get home. Now you be wondering where in the world did you go??? I only went from Gatwick airport to Newquay airport and broke down in newquay a day ago. Wish there were minus minus zero stars i could give to RAC. As english is not my first language , i can not find a word that suits RAC . Ridiculous , shambles seems very tiny words to me. Pray for me so i get home and see my lovely family and kids :( as they are missing me from yesterday 2nd may 5 am when i left my house to earn a living. For evidence i will upload some texts and calls i made to RAC. Anyone from trading standards ? Must look into my case and save others from what i am going through.

I booked the RAC mobile mechanic service to replace my shock absorber. A mechanic named Sunny came and he was super efficient and polite, I would definitely use this service again. Thanks Sunny 👍🏻

Following a blow out tyre travelling to work, 3 weeks ago.I tried to make contact via the link with the Citroen warranty to the RAC breakdown service, the car was 5 wks old. The link took me to an online site. We had no membership number, so pressed the none membership number part, inevitably, this took us back to the phone number. Absolute joke, the Citroen dealership took it up with RAC when we complained to them initially, as this was part of the warranty, they are still waiting for an answer. We ended up paying £110 for a local roadside assistance tyre group to replace on the road. I have since bought a breakdown cover from a more reputable company.

Absolute rubbish service. You will be fooled to think you are covered, waited 8 hours after breakdown, after that they said we are sorry for that bad experience so we give you one month free. After 1 month 'free' they doubled my premium. I tried to cancel and they said they will charge me for breakdown I called when I was covered. Its a shame we can't put zero stars.

They call themselves ‘The Knights Of The Road’. More like NIGHTS of The Road! You will be still waiting overnight to be rescued and taken home, no matter how early in the day you broke down! Expect to be taken home AFTER ten hours of breaking down. You call them and then: I. Wait for hours for someone to come out to assess if they CAN fix it alongside the road. If not: II. Wait a few more hours for pick up recovery to take you home. Unless: III. You only have ‘roadside recovery’ so they want an extra £300 to take your vehicle to a garage and you safely home. Or: IV. They offer to send you a car for you to drive home, at some point. By which, in the time it gets there, you are most likely be far too tired to drive... V. If your destination is over an 1.5 hours away, the recovery driver can’t take to all the way home, they are limited in how long they drive for, in which case: VI. You will get dropped off at a services, probably on a roundabout which are not situated near roads which is on the route home. Told to wait for another recovery vehicle to pick you up, at some point. Therefore, when eventually you do manage to get driven home, it will be the scenic route. They clearly don’t bother with working out the quickest way home and take you to services on your way home, because, as already outline, their drivers are on time limits and can only drive a certain distance. VII. Don’t expect the next recovery vehicle to take you home either, he may also take you and you car to another services, somewhere to dump, as your home is still considered too far for him to drive too. VIII. Some of these services are very secluded, creepy and may not have car park lights, are most likely to be ‘NOT 24 hours’ meaning there will be nothing open except a garage with a pay kiosk, no toilet facilities open, no hot food or drinks, no shelter, and possibly a small busy hotel on site with no cafe, no customer toilet facilities and likely to be fully booked, if you need a room. A room? Yes don’t expect to get home by 6am... IX. So you may be sleeping in the hotel reception chairs, as it’s not safe sat in your car in a secluded, cold, dark car park in the middle of nowhere at night. X. You call them to find out when someone will get to you as you just want to go home, they’ll tell you they will let you know. XI. Thirty odd calls later to them, as they are not contacting you, you may have to suggest a taxi, why they hadn’t done that in the first place, who knows? In which case: XII. You may be waiting another hour or more, if they can’t get one to come out. After all: XIII. These services are not in a city, everything is shut down for the night, everyone is asleep and you’re at least 30 mins or more away from a town, which may have 24 hour taxi service. If your a lone woman, a vulnerable person, elderly, family with kids, pregnant or a mum on her own with kids, you should be a priority. However, that seems to be irrelevant, You will still be dumped at ‘Not 24 hours’ service stations waiting hours to get home safely. God forbid if your none of the above. In which case, if you’re a young man, you may have mates still awake at 3am willing to jump into their cars to drive the how ever many miles away from you they are, in order to pick you up and take you home. If not, then I’m sure you will get home within 48 hours of breaking down. Your car may not get to a garage in that time, if you end up having to taxi it home and you need to leave the keys in the hotel reception, that is if there is a hotel wherever you have been dumped at, then breakdown will pick up your car, at some point in the week. There will light at the end of the tunnel eventually, after experiencing frustration, worry, panic, fear, anger and upset during the lone, cold dark hours in waiting to be rescued by the ‘4th emergency services’. Been quicker to have got an ambulance out!

Absolutely shocking. Call staff are rude, most things aren’t explained to you when you sign up. I’ve been charged nearly £150 for cancelling 2 months before renewal date. I’ve phoned once and they didn’t even have the service I required covered so I had to find an external company! They left my family stranded for 2 days in a lay-by due to not having the equipment to recover a car and caravan! They kept cancelling last minute, they didn’t pay out for the inconvenience either and they ended up driving home nearly 6 hours in limp mode! And he paid extra for car and caravan cover as we tow with a caravan and a horse trailer ! I dread to think. I was once left stranded with my dad on a duel carriageway when my car broke down for hours on end awaiting recovery. This company is a total joke! Happy to take peoples money but never happy to help when you pay for the service !
