Delivery: Excellent, Website: Excellent. But $30 for 5 lbs.? About 5 times too much. Granted, they pay shipping, but if they charged a "normal" price and I had to pay shipping, my guess is that it would be about $2 a lb. rather than $6 a lb.

The chilles are awesome. I roasted them three days after they came in the mail.

The ordering and shipping process were very good. I was notified when my chiles would ship and they arrived on time. I was disappointed in the color, light green and yellow, and the lack of aroma when I opened the box. Also they lacked the aroma when roasting and the chiles were not as flavorful as expected. I expressed my concerns via email and Preston responded quickly and explained why the color was off and assured me there was no loss of flavor. My wife and I disagree since we are the ones tasting the chiles. We now have chile for the winter but it is not as good as what we had experienced from previous green chiles over the years.

All went well with my shipment. I was notified when to expect it, and it arrived two days later in an insulated container. That was awkward to open, but that is fine and probably helped ensure the chiles stayed cold. One thing that might be helpful for customers is to somehow give an indication what 5 lbs of whole chiles actually looks like. I really wasn't sure, and next time I will order more than that. I really like that the chiles are packaged in 1 lb packages. I haven't eaten my chiles yet, but I cannot wait to make rellenos with them! Thank you.

My only disappointment was that their wasn't any dry or ice packs to help keep the frozen packages frozen. A few of them were slightly frozen, the rest were frozen. But had I not been home and saw the package on the porch, it could have sat their longer and more would have defrosted. I'm of the belief that they can be refrozen at least once. Maybe a note enclosed would ease the minds of other customers. As for cold packs or dry ice, I know that adds weight and additional costs to shipping. The chili's look great and I can't wait to make some pork Chili stew. This is at least my third order and I've never been disappointed! Thank you, Florence Whitmire!

Florence, we do use dry ice but only use enough to last 1-2 days. I'm guessing that it had sublimed by the time you received it.

Your service is great, however, I was disappointed with flavor of Chile I ordered. Upon my next order, I will order next heat level to suit my taste!!

Last year I ordered the Big Jims and was very disappointed in the lack of heat - very similar to the chile's available in our local grocery store in the DFW area that are labeled as "hot". This year I ordered the Sandias and was MUCH more satisfied. I'll be ordering these from now on. Just the right amount of heat.

Had high hopes for great tasting chile. Wish medium hot wasn't so mild! I ordered it specifically so it would have a bite to it but lacking in any heat at all! Disappointed

I live in North Dakota after living in NM for over 20 years. Missed my chile. I ordered 50 lbs. Of fresh Big Jims. I have roasted my chile aND bagged them for the freezer. As I had ordered medium to hot about 2/3 rds of then have no heat at all I am dissapointed in that aspect. They were big meaty chiles which is great but no heat is not what I had ecpected.

My Chiles arrived in really Good Shape. Was very exited to get them. I ordered the X-Hot (Lumbre) Fresh Hatch Green Chile and was expecting them to be HOT. Much to my dismay they are not HOT at all. Do not know what happened.

Arrived in great condition and only one bad one in the box at the bottom. Would rate very good if they had a little more heat. Very mild this time but they still smelled good on the grill. Maybe the rains in the SW diluted the heat in them.

Most of the chiles were good, but a 1/2 dozen or so were wilted and turning wrinkly. We roasted, peeled, seeded and froze them all. great taste!!!! we are anxiously waiting our 2nd order hopefully it will be here this week. Thanks!

Preston and Elaine, Thank you for allowing me to provide a review. I can only assume you pick on Tuesday mornings and ship everything out the same day since that is what you said on your website. My order consisted of two 25 pound boxes of Sandia and one 10 pound box of xxx-hot Lumbre. I ordered those two because of their higher heat index. By and large we were happy to receive our chilies and there were only two that we had to throw away due to damage and rot. That is expected with fresh produce and is not a problem. We were able to successfully roast them all which filled our home with the wonderful smell of roasted chilies and they taste great. But… we were a little disappointed with the overall quality and heat index. Let me explain. Heat index: Neither the xxx-Lumbre nor the Sandia were as hot as the one’s we received last year. Having said that, the only reason I can think of goes back to a comment made to me many years ago by a friend in Southern Colorado who said you should never buy chilies from the early season harvest if you want them hot… always wait until just before they start turning red. Last year I ordered in mid and late season and they all were fairly hot to blistering (just the way we like them.) This year I pre-ordered and received early season harvest chilies and the heat went from “not hot” to “mild”. Of course, I understand other things like weather may also explain this. We would rather not make another pre-season order since the apparent loss of heat is not worth the 10% discount unless of course you can arrange for and guarantee a pre-season order to be picked mid to late season, just before they start turning red. Quality 1: Most of the chilies were fairly nice and uniform in size but we noticed there were many in one of the Sandia boxes that looked like they were premature and not ready to be picked. In fact, many were only about 3 inches long and no bigger around than my thumb. The xxx-Lumbre were all nice and uniform in size. Quality 2: One of the 25 pound boxes of Sandia looked really fresh while the other one along with the 10 pound box of xxx-Lumbre looked as though they had been picked the previous Saturday or had been sitting around in a cooler for a week. I’m certainly not making accusations, just passing on information based on my observation of what I received. I don’t think three days would make them start to dry out so much even though they were shipped UPS ground, I noticed last year that 2 day Air via FedEx took the same amount of time. In the end however, they all roasted and peeled nicely and are now happily waiting to be eaten. Shipping: When I made my order I noticed that your web site doesn’t have an easily discernable selection for mode of shipping and it looks like it automatically defaults to the cheapest mode of surface. In light of your recommendation to have the chilies shipped by 2 day air to maintain freshness I would like to make a suggestion. Please have your web developer re-program the check out routine so a customer is not able to submit an order without selecting a mode of shipping, and place the 2 day air selection at the top. You may want to keep the cheapest mode as your default but at least prompt the user to make that selection. That is not a complicated web programming task. One last note: If I wanted to purchase a box of hot to blistering, “all red” chilies, what hot late season variety is available, and when would be the best time to order? Hatch chilies are the best!! Thank you, James Balis

Service is good, but the "hot" chiles are no hotter than an Anaheim chile. Disappointed. I need to seek out the company I used to buy from. Bummed.
